We were seated promptly at 5 o’clock for our reservations. The service was excellent, Sam did a great job serving us, very attentive and knew the menu up and down. The jumbo shrimp were dried out and the steak was a little overdone but everything was very tasty. The views are spectacular. A bit pricey but all in all it was worth it. I would recommend it to a friend.
It was very crowded. After Chicago Shakespeare, pier seemed to be more crowded than ever due to Flower show, but our waiter, Jamie, seemed to be a little befuddled and in a hurry. We have had him before and was better then.
Great environment and food! Best restaurant on the pier! Worth making a special trip to it!
As always, Riva is a great choice for fish. View from the pier looking back at the city is unpatriotic. Always an awesome meal for any occasion. The clam chowder, surf and turf buffet and gelato trio in a cookie shell are among my favorites
Dined prior to a play at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Cocktail was surprisingly ample, soup was delicious, swordfish entree was outstanding. Timing of service was perfect. Valet parking made things especially easy and swift.
I love Riva - the views are incredible and the staff is great. Very easy access using valet parking . (although all the signs said $15 and he wanted to charge $33, not sure why) I don't know if it was due to the Flower Show in town or what, but the lunch menu seemed very condensed and did not match the one here on Open Table at all. Many items missing from prior visits. I don't go to Riva for sandwiches. At any rate - I love the place and will return. Hope they add things back. Get the 4 flavor/scoops of sorbet - it's amazing!
My husband and I had lunch recently and sat at a comfortable booth with a good view. The tablecloth had a long black hair on it, not belonging to myself or husband. The seat of the booth had crumbs on it. The $11 blue crap soup was a small cup and to me tasted like Campbell's Chicken Gumbo soup. The bread and butter were spectacular. The crab sandwich ($20) had very good flavor but had cartilage pieces in it. My husband had the poke dish which was also flavorful but certainly not worth the twenty-plus price tag.
Riva is a go-to place. Simply put, outstanding views, excellent service, scrumptious food are a winning combination.
Good food, average price, great spot with beautiful view. Going back soon.
We had an unfortunate experience with a waitress. She fawned over the table next to us and ignored us. My companion asked for mustard. The food got cold waiting for it. Eventually the waitress, while talking to the other table, put the mustard on the far corner of our table, out of arms reach. She ignored our attempts to get her attention, and we had to get out of our seats to get it. We had to cajole another waiter into taking our dessert and coffee orders. While service at Riva is never speedy, it’s usually not blatantly inattentive. Thank heavens for the other waiter!
Everything was great. It would have been a little nicer if all were more friendly. The female hostess was very nice but everyone else was rather blah and not friendly
Lovely day. We got a seat by the window. Sun was shining and our server was so nice and knowledgeable
Unfortunately I find myself at Navy Pier only once or twice a year.....and always make arrangements to eat there.....always attentive wait staff....everyone from check in through the dessert. I just need to plan on being there more than twice a year. Making arrangements through Open Table assures that even if the restaurant is very busy we always have a table.
Service is excellent at RIVA.
Riva is located at Navy Pier, a beautiful venue in Chicago. While the seafood is very good, I would not call it outstanding. For the price, I don't see the value. Don't go looking for inventive dishes, Riva serves classic seafood items. The seafood is fresh but overpriced. The service is very prompt but impersonal.
Food is excellent! Great service, good view, premium pricing for this high level restaurant.
Great place to take out of town guests. Food and service were outstanding
Excellent calamari. Always perfectly tender. The best on the planet.
My girlfriend and I went to Riva for her birthday. This was a great experience! The food was amazing. i wish I could remember our server's name, but she made a special request to the kitchen for a meal I wanted to order and my request was granted. In addition, she checked on us often and was very friendly. The servers came by to sing happy birthday to my friend birthday and our dessert was complementary. I have been to Riva many times and this was my friend's 1st time. She said she would come to this restaurant again for the great service and food.
I had not been to Rivas in years!
We made a reservation before catching a show at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater!
We loved it!
I can not wait to go back...some of the best food and scenery in the city!
Once again a delicious and memorable meal at Riva. We particularly enjoy the discount for Chicago Shakespear ticket holders. Many thanks to Tim for excellent service.
We visited Riva for dinner before a play and selected the special prix fixe menu for Chicago Shakespeare Theater patrons. The food was outstanding. We started with a jumbo lump crab cake that had almost no filler, very flavorful and with a nice, light sauce. Next was the filet mignon, a perfect medium rare with mashed potatoes and asparagus. And to finish, I had tiramisu and my friend had white chocolate creme brulee, both were excellent. Our waiter was very friendly and just the right level of attentiveness. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and the beautiful view from the wall of windows. I look forward to returning to Riva when I visit Navy Pier in the future.
The only fine dining at the Pier. Food tastes good, but served with little imagination. Good view. More expensive than most for what you are served. But I have been there over 10 times, so the place to go when going to the Pier.
This restaurant is consistently good. They accommodated my wish for vegan. My friends enjoyed their fish.
Food was not good and cost was outrageous. The fish was not fresh which is not good for a seafood restaurant. We were very disappointed.
A great time food was outstsnding
We had a lovely table by the window overlooking Lake Michigan. Our server, Rosa, was very helpful with the menu choices, and she was attentive and friendly throughout the meal. The crab cakes were excellent, as was the sea bass over julienned vegetables and sweet potato.
Overpriced and small portions. Did not get theatre discount as we had not picked up tickets yet
Consistently good food, great service and beautiful ambiance. Never disappointed. The fish is perfectly grilled. Always go pre-Shakespeare Theater.
Exceeded our expectations in every way. We were going to a play at the Shakespeare Theater & had their prix fix dinner - fillet mignon, that was delicious and a great value. Service was very attentive, but not intrusive. We will definitely be returning for dinner prior to our next play.
food sucked gal at front desk frosty better seafood at red lobster drew was a great server
My wife and I ate at Riva prior to attending the Shakespeare Theater. The location was convenient. The food was excellent and service was flawless. We have done this many times before, and Riva always comes through. We think it’s the best dinner-theater experience in Chicago.
Our experience at Rival's was fantastic. The food was wonderful and the service was exceptional!
Blanca the waitress was exceptional as was one of the hostesses who graciously took our pictures.
Exceptional service with great recommendations and the Food was delicious.
Service was welcoming and experienced. Food was outstanding and fresh.
The food was mediocre for what was charged. $20 for a bed of lettuce with various cold seafood during lunch time, no awesome sauce, no other vegetables nothing to set it apart from any other place. The crab gumbo soup was a cup of basic gumbo with a bit of shredded crab on top for $11.
Went to Riva before attending a play at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. The view of Lake Michigan, Navy Pier visitors, and the city are one of the best things about this restaurant. The service was good and ambiance was great. It's a bit pricey, though.
The service and the seafood! We had a huge platter of seafood that included lobster, crab and shrimp prepared perfectly and served beautifully. It was fresh and tasted like we were at the coast. The service was great, it was a good way to celebrate our 22 years of happiness!
The food was a decent amount. ...service was awesome!
The only items I really liked were the clam chowder & drinks. Although the special included large portions of the lobster, shrimp & crab, the meat wasn’t as fresh as I’d like to see. My Dad was a fisherman & I grew up with “oh-so-fresh” seafood! 😊 It was rather leathery & tough. For the price, it doesn’t come close to the taste of Red Lobster. The side dishes needed to be flavored more. Perhaps the chef should consider sauteing the spinach in garlic for more flavor. I’d also like to see the double baked potato added as a side. I had the raw oysters for an appetizer but would have preferred to have the option of having them cooked.
I have stopped at the bar on several occasions & had their wings & clam chowder which are always great! ...little disappointed in the taste of their seafood.
