Beautiful view of the Lake and delicious seafood. Very attentive service.
Best place to celebrate my 60th birthday! Thank you!
Riva Crabhouse on Navy Pier was an excellent experience yesterday celebrating 3 birthdays in the company of 10. Everything was great, service, food, ambience, weather. For seafood lovers, all appetizers we choose were great: Cold combination, hot steamer, calamari, as well as meals: fish, stake, salads.
Not to forget cocktails, vine, and dezert. We share flowerless chocolate cake, and lemon pie, were delicious. We strongly recommended Riva to our friends and family on Facebook
The seafood medley that we got was excellent and the service was outstanding. We had an Open Table coupon that the restaurant couldn't access, but they gave us credit for it anyway!
I’ve been a fan of Riva for a long time.
This was a slightly different experience, in that the place was very quiet for a Thursday evening, with just a few other diners. I was concerned that perhaps the food and service would not be as I remembered, but that want the case!
Gumbo was rich and spicy, with a nice roux and tasty bits of fish and shrimp throughout. The Double-cut Pork Chop was lean, nicely-seasoned, juicy and perfectly cooked, and the Blueberry sauce and roasted Brussel Sprouts were a perfect accompaniment.
Finishing the meal with Key Lime pie, tart and fresh, was just as I recalled from years ago.
Excellent service, great value, and beautiful views of Lake Michigan!
Fresh seafood excellently presented with outstanding flavor
Wonderful food and wonderful service went for my daughter 16th birthday and we all Where treated like kings and queens the food and drinks and desserts was absolutely fantastic we will return
Excellent waif staff and fresh delicious lunch items.
Another great meal at Riva!
1st time I have ever had bad service. Never saw our waitress had to track her down to get the check she was gabbing with the hostess. Everyone else was serving us looks like other waiters service staff were helping out. Took forever to get our appetizer and then forever again to get our entree. Busses picked up the bread thinking we were done and we hadn’t gotten our entree yet. Left a tip but it should have gone to everyone else. Arrived at 11:30 and tracked waitress down at 12:41 to get check. No chance for desert, no follow up for other drinks. Never had a problem at riva but this one was huge.
Riva provides consistently high quality seafood, friendly service, and a picturesque setting. It’s the perfect spot for a meal before or after attending a performance at Navy Pier. Prices are very fair.
Food wasn’t seasoned and the overall experience was subpar.
Beware! It takes a lot for me to write a bad review, but for Riva I must - especially for the prices they charge. I ordered the tuna rare. It arrived raw with the thinnest sliver of searing around it. I ordered the same dish, rare, at Hugos Frog Bar the week before and it was perfect. This was simply RAW. If I had wanted sashimi I would have gone elsewhere.
My husband said for the price ($40!) I should ask for it to be cooked a little more. I did, nicely. 10 minutes later it came back grey and firm - beyond well done. Nothing on the plate had been moved so they either microwaved it or stuck the whole plate in the oven. Clearly they were sending a message: Do not send an order back if it is not prepared correctly.
My husband had the crab cake which was decent, not great. Again, the one at Hugos Frog Bar was far better at the same price. For dinner before Shakespeare we will not be going back.
Food was good as usual. We went before theatre... Only ordered entrees and glasses of wine... service felt rushed... my bread plate almost left the table while I was still eating. were seated near the kitchen... not a super experience for two women!
Great choices on the Menu- food delivered hot & delicious.
Wonderful view. Lively ambiance!
Beautiful venue with amazing food and service. Would visit again when next in Chicago.
Good food and service. A bit pricey for a Navy Pier restaurant.
great service, deliciously prepared meals, excellent wine at reasonable price
We had a reservation and were given a table looking out on frozen lake Michigan. A different, but special kind of beauty to add to wonderful service and good food. We were going to the theatre after dinner and the waitstaff was very accommodating to be sure we were finished on time.
Went before the theatre. Food was average. Service was very good. Price was reasonable except for the wine.
Good place for fresh seafood and quiet place at Navy pier with a view of the city. View would have been better later in the evening.
Great restaurant to dine before going to Shakespeare. Close walk to theater, great food, excellent serving staff. Always reliable.
Beautiful view of the lake while dining from an interesting menu. Staff is friendly, efficient and professional.
Excellent service with beautiful view of the night skyline.
Attentive service, reasonably priced food, uninspired recipes.
Yes, it has a reputation as a tourist destination, but Riva Crabhouse on Navy Pier continues to delight with delicious seafood and wonderful service. We enjoyed pre-theater dining before attending "An Inspector Calls" at the nearby Shakespeare Theater. We will back soon . . . with or without theater tickets.
Great place for any business dinner. They take care of you in every manor. I have been going to Riva for 20 years-once per year on business.
We have been to Riva many times and will continue to eat at this great restaurant. The selections of
of different fish dishes are great, my favorite is the grilled salmon, along with the potstickers as an
appetizer. Last, but not least is the Key Lime Pie, it is the best I have had in any restaurant! We look
forward to going to Riva again when we are in Chicago.
Great food great service beautiful location.
The service is professional but never fussy and the food continues to be very fine. It's a mixed crowd with everything from jeans to suits and all feel welcome. Great place for a special occasion or pre-Shakespeare Theater!
Riva has excellent food. The steak and lobster combo and lobster and crab leg combo was great. The brussel sprouts were really good. The window table had a good view.
We visit Riva a few times each year before a play and they are a great spot for a good dinner. They are used to theater-goes and so can pace the service as you want them to, even if you are running a bit late. The wait staff is excellent and always helpful The food can be somewhat uneven. We recommend sticking to the grilled fish specials. I had a Med. Sea Bass dinner on our most recent visit and it was not that good, with a very mushy fish and somewhat overpowering potato side. My wife had a grilled something and it was very good. It is also a bit pricey considering the food preparation, even with the discount. The view, however, is excellent and not to be missed.
Both mahi and my companions fish were overcooked, dry and needed a sauce - a squeeze of lemon didn’t solve the problem. In the past the food was given four stars - since it is not tourist season where you might get a different palate wanting everything well cooked I was disappointed and left more than half of my thirty dollars entree. Ambiance is always great. Because I see plays on Navy Pier I eat there at least six to eight times a season and have since they opened so I speak from experience. Since the chef is critical perhaps they got a new chef.
Wonderful food. Excellent service. A great place.
Overdone fish and as always overly expensive by a lot. This place has been coasting for years on the advantage conferred by its preeminent location and I’ve really had it with them.
We went to Riva prior to heading to the Shakespeare Theater and the food was excellent and served at the perfect temperature. Luis was very attentive to any of our needs and was an excellent server. We enjoyed our meal very much.
Best view in town. They always treat us well and make sure we’re served in time for the theater. The food is great, too.
Always exceptional—food, service, view—a perfect amalgam. The grilled salmon on root vegetable matchsticks could not have been better executed—the unctuous nature of the fish was preserved for that sought-after mouth feel.
Wait staff was overwhelmed by walk-ins so service was slow. Not usually the case. Food was good as always. Lake views spectacular!
I’m not sure
Waitress had no clue and our food definitely didn’t look like the picture !!
A little disappointed
