Atmosphere and service was amazing. The food was ok. We had high expectations. We were expecting some more vegetable options .
There were only a mixed veggie option
Not a great place if you are Gluen free or want to substitute things like spinach , broccoli, broccoli rabe or escarole for pasta or have as a side.
Went to extremely early dinner, just to experience the restaurant
The food was excellent
Extremely well prepared and flavorful
Service was great until the lat half hour, during which time we felt ignored as we waited all that time for our check
Great atmosphere .welcoming staff. The food was amazing from appetizers to desserts. We shared an endive salad that was crisp and refreshing. The carbonara pasta was requested without onions and it was one of the best we ever ate. The entree special shrimp was delicious along with the shrimp fra diavolo. We couldn’t resist sharing a tortoni We expected the old fashion tortoni that came in a paper cup. This tortoni was homemade and more than enough for two people . delicious. The dining experience was A1.
I had shrimp and scallops homemade ink pasta, my guest had homemade pasta Bolognese both was excellent
Beautiful restaurant. Went on a Thursday night. We had a drink at the bar and were seated at time of reservation. Decor is amazing. Service good. The bread absolutely delicious! Had homemade mozzarella and asparagus for appetizer which was delicious. The chicken Milanese was average. My significant other had the rosemary chicken and enjoyed it. We ordered the cannoli for dessert and was disappointed…way too much orange zest flavor and the cannoli cream was mediocre. Restaurant was very loud and gave the vibe of a place that people go to see and be seen with lots of people knowing each other, myself included, but I stayed seated in the restaurant and didn’t walk table to table disrupting the other diners talking to everyone I knew in the dining room. That should be left in the bar area. I will give it a try another night earlier in the week with the hope of having a more relaxing dinner. Also look forward to trying the trattoria.
Prior to dining sat at the bar & enjoyed hand crafted cocktails with John.
Dined outside and throughly enjoyed everything from fresh baked bread to scratched made dessert. Excellent.
Food and drinks were very good, service just ok. No one was there to greet us when we walked in, a waiter saw us and got the hostess. We had a reservation and were seated right next to the kitchen door. For some reason our chairs and a few other tables near had the same plastic chairs as outside not the usual ones like the rest of the restaurant. Our waiter basically just took our orders but never introduced himself, offered any info about specials/food or checked on us. Drinks, apps and dinner was very good. For dessert we ordered the biscotti/pastry but it didn’t come out until after we were all done with our cappuccinos and there was no biscotti/pastry, just 3 different Italian cookies. It’s local but we won’t rush to go back.
Loved it in everywhere
We had such high hopes for this new "hot spot". What a disappointment. 1st things first. The food is excellent I have to give them credit where it is due. Now the service on the other hand is horrific. Both the bartenders and wait staff were terrible. We had to beg the bartenders for drinks. Then the real disaster started when we were seated. Our waiter was awful. Got orders wrong, brought an appetizer that he forgot to put in when we were finishing dinner etc. When I booked through open table I even mentioned it was my wife's birthday. Well not even a mention of it at this place. At the prices they charge,, the service should be impeccable. I sent the restaurant an email a fee days later notifying them of our experience. Guess what? They didn't even have the common courtesy to reply. I am a local resident and I will never go back and will tell anyone listeningnot to go either. Michael your food is good but the lack of customer service will end up killing your business.
Michael our server was amazing. He was very professional and helpful. All the staff was extremely pleasant.
We were theonly table upstairs because tables were reserved for family. Michael V passed us 2 x because the stairs were there and never acknowledged us. He knew the other people and did talk to them.
He barely said hello on the way out. We drove 100 miles RT and I wouldnt return. We have alot of nice restaurants right here close to home.
I have to say I was very underwhelmed based on all the press and information I read about Ristorante MV. We arrived early and had drinks at the bar. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful. The waitress took us to the table on time but I was surprised to find all but one person in our party was to be seated in plastic lawn furniture and not real chairs. We reviewed the main and specials menu. When it came time to order we were told the fish of the day was unavailable and one of the specials was out. This would have been helpful information from the wait staff when first deciding what to eat. Once we ordered it took 45 minutes for the appetizers to arrive. By then the wait staff was eager to serve us our main meal and rushed the plates away. My dish was as piping hot but all the other guests at the table complained their food was not very warm. Prior to dinner we went to order a second bottle of wine off the specials menu and to no surprise...that was unavailable too. The restaurant seems to tout how booked they are but I found it to be very off putting especially when trying to get a hold of anyone. They don’t pick up the phone, respond to their social media or email. It will not be a go to for me in the future.
I have never written a review but I feel compelled to.
We had high hopes for this restaurant. We enjoy great food and are willing to treat ourselves and we’re excited about an authentic Italian restaurant in the local area.Bottom line -not good. For more details read on.The space is beautiful and were greeted by a very nice valet who shared some of the family history and made us feel comfortable and ready for our experience. Upon being seated we experienced our waiter who’s personality could be described as flat and un-engaging. The waiter did not introduce himself or welcome us to the restaurant but took our drink orders. I specifically asked for an old fashioned prepared in the traditional method not the one on their specialty cocktail list - but received it anyway prepared with amaretto and soda and felt it was no big deal and moved on without making issue. While dining we had 3 or more people plunking things down or filling glasses without asking or providing an explanation of what is being offered. Food like the bread offering (what is, what kinds, what is the tapenade mixture - left us wondering - but we moved on). And when food was placed it was often done without care - with a handful of other things and sloppily placed on the side or edge while walking by - thanks? What is this...? I guess I’ll move this to the middle of the table to share...Next - the waiter asked what would you like to eat - upon which my wife asked - what is popular, what are the specials? - they should really walk you through that without prompting. At this point - I’m thinking - ok the food is probably great - all will be forgiven... nope. We ordered the octopus - which I love most times- it wasn’t good - cold, chewy, canned tunafish tasting. Told the waiter - still on bill. My wife had the chicken dish with eggplant and mozzarella- it was tough and gloppy with cheese. I had the sole - super average. I can make better food at home. Save your money.
We made a reservation for outside at an extremely early hour - 4 pm. We were told the tables in the shade were reserved. After we left, tables were still not taken. Italian food from Brooklyn? Seriously? Not good. I very rarely go out of my way to write a review.
Great food and ambiance. Service was a bit long. We sat at 8.15 and main entree was served at 9.30. The staff was very pleasant too
Took out. Order was ready on time and food was perfectly cooked.
Overall, the staff was very friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks were great!
However, when we asked if there were any options for a small child (6 years old), we were told there were none. We finally had to ask if our daughter could at least have plain pasta and marinara on the side. You definitely need to consider a few options for children if you want families to feel welcome dining here.
And one minor comment about the staff. While VERY friendly and attentive, they tended to hover around the tables a little too much. I get this is new staff and people are still onboarding/training. Perhaps it's something to share during training sessions.
Food is truly outstanding. The wait staff is so nice and pay attention to detail but kind of on the slow side. The restaurant was very crowded for a Monday night but we sat down at 8pm and our appetizers came out at 9pm. Too much time in between being seated and being asked for a drink order then more time before our dinner order was taken. I would definitely go back again hopefully they improve the speed of the service.
Went above & beyond our expectations!
Food was good but service was slow and could have been a bit better overall.
My better half and I always head into either the city or Staten Island for authentic Italian food. With MV now being here, we won't be doing THAT anymore! This food... A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! I was a regular when this was the old Rudolph Steakhouse and can already see that I will continue to be a regular, with this new establishment. The five star service is intuitive, attentive, yet not intrusive. My only wish is that I could have a Red Sangria whenever I go there but that's a small price to pay in order to enjoy exceptional, well seasoned food, served in generous proportions. I have already made two more reservations. ('so glad I don't have to schlep into the city anymore). Kudos to the father and son team at MV! We're glad to have you. Welcome!
Outstanding Italian food. 💕
Service was awful, food was average, room temperature was uncomfortably hot
Food and Service were excellent !!!! Will definitely be back
Lovely DR renovation but some of the (black) chairs are quite uncomfortable. Service was
good when they first opened but has deteriorated since they now seem close to full
capacity. One could question the distance to the next table since the busboy hit the back
Of my seat repeatedly when serving them. You are handed the quite large plasticised menu upon seating and it becomes a juggling act when trying to enjoy a cocktail. Menu
Offerings are what you would anticipate in a Nj Italian restaurant, comfortable but not progressive. Hopefully, these are growing pains as this venue has the potential to be a star.
Great place for a birthday dinner! The food was amazing. Top rate service and gorgeous atmosphere! We love it!!
The food is excellent, the service, not so much! When we walked in, we were shown to a table, but were never given menus, we had to ask for them. We did not have any bread dishes. I ordered the veal scallopine and asked for the potato croquettes that they advertise on instagram, but was told, no, it doesn't come with them. It took forever to get our meal and the waiter came by only 1 time to refill our wine glasses. No one ever came by to ask how everything was. Everything seemed disjointed and everyone seemed annoyed, especially the hostess, who was not very friendly. I know the restaurant is knew in town, but Michael has been in the business for years! I wrote to him twice personally, but so far, have not heard back. Let me repeat....the food is excellent, they just need to et their act together! I would still like to hear back by phone, text or email from Michael!
Pretty restaurant. Everything good not great. Expensive for ordinary
Excellent food and service
Place is pricey but ridiculously good.
Best restaurant in the area! Absolutely delicious food, outstanding service and beautiful atmosphere! Thanks for a fabulous evening ♥️
Great new addition to Bernardsville. Best restaurant in town!
Tried for the first time with friends. Sad to see so many places come and go in this beautiful spot. However, was excited to see a well-known Italian place land here.
Sat downstairs. Service was prompt, although a few times we had to ask for refills on drinks and cocktails. Good mix of wine. Small cocktail menu. Apps were good, including the clams and fried zucchini which were delicious. The blood orange salad was very good too. Penne with Bolognese was very good.
For dinner we had chicken parm, which was well-prepared and tender. Came with a strange side of buttered steamed veggies, which didn’t seem like it fit. Wife had the octopus which was good but not amazing. Others in our group had the shrimp fra Diablo and sole.
Our main complaints were that the food came out too quick, so we felt a bit rushed. There were a lot of heavy dishes on the menu. Not too much if you’re on a diet or want something light. Will def be back to try it again.
Risotto & veal marsala were a little lacking in seasoning.
I asked for no peppers in my salad but it came with peppers.
The first bottle of wine I ordered they were out of.
There are no vintage years on the wine list and wait staff did not know the years off hand.
The place is beautiful, very clean and owner is visible and friendly. First experience was very good for only being open 3-4 wks. I wish Michael the best of luck and I will be back for another meal.
I love the place, we will be back. Food creative and delicious, worth the spend. Place is gorgeous, can’t wait to hang out in the stunning bar! Place could benefit from better music, something more fitting with the atmosphere, like some chill piano or jazz... some old school stuff. the pop music was off putting, just my opinion. xo overall....a treat!
MV is the new spot! The space is beautiful and food superb!
Ristorante MV and staff did an excellent job from beginning to end. The food and ambiance are top notch. This place will definitely be an NJ hot spot.
Great add for the Bernardsville area. Food was fantastic for a brand new restaurant.
