Reliably good, good mixed drinks, great wine, good food selection, attentive service.
I had such high hopes for this place. We went for brunch yesterday and it was such a disappointment. We were seated at 12:30 and didn’t get our food until an hour later. The place was not even full. The food was subpar. I had the white label burger and it was so dry, I asked for it medium rare and got it medium/ well done. I also asked for a side salad instead of fries and I got lettuce with no dressing. The olive oil cake was as big and dry as a brick. My friend’s frittata was just baked eggs. Never going again.
What a disappointment ! I have been to Morini many times, but I will not go back. Michelin had better review them again.
The service was great...almost fawning. The tables are wooden, so they are wiping them continuously. It would be better to have a tablecloth. The bread tray had only focaccia..boring.. The salad was okay. My companion liked the pasta, but I had branzino which had either been frozen, or standing around. It had no taste and the texture was mealy. The accompanying rice salad not tasty at all.
The wines were fine, but all they had to do was pour them. Be forewarned...
Excellent lunch experience!
I took a few of my work colleagues to dinner last Wednesday at Ristorante Morini. I chose the restaurant because I have always enjoyed dinner there, on those occasions when my wife and I are in the city, and I knew my work colleagues would be happy with the experience. I was right.
We went with the four-course prix fixe option, and three of us did wine pairings with our meal. Our meal proceeded at a perfect pace, allowing us to enjoy the food and wine and conversation over a couple of hours. Everything was well-prepared - we especially liked the bocconcini (tomato-braised chicken-eggplant meatballs) appetizer, the tortelli (lobster ravioli) and agnoloti (veal ravioli), and the agnello (grilled rack of lamb) and ippoglosso (poached halibut) entrees. These dishes were paired with some delightful wines that were presented with a brief, informative, and entertaining explanation by a friendly and capable sommelier.
Dessert was equally delightful. We enjoyed the buddino (my favorite dessert - described in the menu as:
"caramelized milk chocolate budino, pretzel crumble, chocolate cake, vanilla gelato"), affogato, and torta. We topped it off with some amaro, and left very happy with the evening.
I would highly recommend Ristorante Morini to anyone, for any occasion. It is a lovely place with a fine staff. You will feel the pleasure of dining out someplace special even as you also sense the warm and reassuring comfort of being among friends at home. If you are like me, you will plan to return.
Excellent food and nice space - wait staff quite professional, staff at reservation/checkin desk not always so - but good place in the neighborhood.
I received a rude welcome at the restaurant’s front desk. After 2 people stared at the computer screen for several minutes, I was told that my table wasn’t ready(it was 7:15.) No, “we’re sorry but... ,” just a statement of fact.
When the rest of my party arr
Morini was recommended by friends/clients. The restaurant is an upstairs/downstairs combo. Dining and bar downstairs and just dining upstairs. Ask for Lance if you are upstairs. While the food and energy were excellent, Lance's advice, personality and cordial nature really made our special evening even more special. $78 Prix Fixe on Saturday evening was a good choice for us. nice selection of wines by bottle and glass. Great upper east restaurant.
Would have preferred quieter upstairs seating; apparently not available on Saturday. Otherwise everything was first rate.
At a gathering of friends, my wife and I ordered the lobster salad. It consisted of a very shallow bed of greens (not even interesting greens) thrown on the plate, topped by two soggy pieces of lobster so small as to disappear into the greens Very disappointing. Was liked the quiet atmosphere and service, but the food was inexcusable.
This restaurant is slipping with success.Food and especially crudo which was superior has declined.
The food and service continue to be exceptional. The last two times that I have dined have been over lunch. I love the relaxed atmosphere, delicious food, and professional and gracious service team.
I go to this restaurant 1-2 times a week. Always a great meal and great service. I like to sit outside , weather permitting (2 small tables outside on Madison Avenue). Excellent, well prepared dishes. This restaurant is a great neighborhood place on the upper east side. Usually full, good idea to make a reservation.
Someliere tried to convert to hyper expensive Hani de gavi
Just losing its edge for fish dishes
Always enjoy it here. Great for lunch before or after the Met. Pretty place, quiet so you can actually have a conversation without screaming, great food well prepared, and unobtrusive service. It is an excellent value at lunch. Nice wine list by the glass.
Amazing food and atmosphere..!
My wife and I ordered the prefix -
The pasta special was spectacular -they accommodated my wife with homemade gluten free pasta and bolonaise sauce that was delicious-Main dishes of lamb and filet mignon cooked perfectly. Sommelier suggested a great tasting Pinot noir to accompany our order.
Highly recommend this restaurant..!
One of the finest meals I've had in long time and I have had many!
Wonderful prixe fixe lunch. Their Tagliatelle Bolognese is fantastic.
Been to several restaurants in their group and this one was so disappointing!! Will never go there again!
Perfect Wait staff is wonderful especially Robert
Very attractive prices on certain wines and pastas after 8:30 Monday through Thursday.
On Friday, August 31, 2018, my wife and I had dinner there. It was excellent. We had the four courses menu. For our appetizer, we had octopus. For our pasta, we had the ravioli with lobster. For our main course, we had the Branzino. Those were high quality. For our dessert, we had the lemon cake. That did not have any lemon at all. We were disappointed about that dessert. The service was excellent. It was quiet, which we like. We like the decor. It was our first time there.
Awful service, surrounding tables were poorly bussed. Waitstaff was rude.
The service was awful. We were essentially neglected. Our drink order never came. My meal was not cooked as requested and had to go back while the rest of the party was eating their meals. The food was good.
I have been to Morini many times so for that reason I chose it as the place to celebrate my birthday, as well as that of my best friend. I indicated on my OpenTable reservation that we were celebrating two birthdays. In addition, my husband spoke to the hostess upon our arrival indicating that. I also mentioned it to our waiter. Absolutely nothing was done by the restaurant to help make the evening special. Not even a candle in one of our three desserts. I ordered the lamb chops medium rare and they arrived raw. My husband ordered the Arctic char which was extremely fishy and inedible. Our waiter Evan R was sub par. My favorite waiter, Robert, was on vacation. I know things would have been very different if he was there. So, for that reason, I will give Morini another chance. I would like to pay a compliment to the sommelier. She was outstanding and attentive. If only our waiter was the same.
It was my best restaurant ever! I'll be there before going back to my country.
Overly salty food that was a disappointment: Pasta with Ragu - salty salty and salty.
Spaghetti with clams: salty salty and so salty that there was no taste of clams.
Bottom line: expensive salt.
Service substandard...poor training
Reception low class no understanding of hospitality for a first class operation. As a regular neighborhood diner, the caliber of reception, waiter & hostessses have been consistently sub-par for a MICHAEL White establishment.
Pleasant surrounding, good ambiance and excellent food.
I met with a friend from Tokyo and a friend from Long Island. They both liked the elegant room and grace foods very much. This restaurant still has four course prix fixe and I think it is a good deal. For me the variety and volume are quite reasonable.
We met another couple for dinner. All 4 of us got the price fixed dinner option. The food was excellent as was the service. We would definitely eat here again.
Enjoyed our lunch, nice ambiance to have a nice conversation. Lots of healthy choices for all types of appetites, dietary needs, etc. The service could have been a little better considering the restaurant wasn't very crowded. My friend has to ask for her iced tea a few times before she
Excellent food and service. Value? Depends on what you can afford but prices definitly on the upper end.
Wine list very extensive but also on the dear side. Hardly any wines under $85. The prix fix was certainly generous option. Would go again if in the mood to splurge.
The waiters are attentive and knowledgeable, and the food is delicious and presented beautifully. The room is very pretty but the tables are fairly close to each other and it is noisy. The one real downside is the value. Example- Their lobster special that evening....A 1-1/2 lb. (average size) lobster with no claws included, shelled and cooked in a nice sauce for $54.00. I know this isn’t the Lobster Shack but that’s just too high. Good special occasion place.
The pasta was terrific and I loved how quiet and elegant this restaurant felt
Although I made the reservation because it was restaurant, I ended up ordering off their normal lunch menu. The restaurant has two different prix fixe options for lunch. One is $32 for salad, pasta, and gelato and the other is just over $40 for appetizer, entree, and dessert.
I selected the former and was very satisfied! The lemon mint sorbet is worth a trip by itself!
Food itself and setting is good. However too small portion little food was given that shows how cheap this restaurant is
The service here has definitely slipped since my last visit. The staff members all seemed new and not very professional. They were not very attentive during our meal an d definitely not what you would expect at these prices. Also, we had been to Ai Fiori a few days earlier and the difference was striking. That said, the food was very good as usual and the atmosphere is very pleasant and comfortable.
