Cool place, food extremely underwhelming.
Beautiful cozy environment. Attentive, personable staff across the board from the owner, waitstaff and bus crew who gave great recommendations with a touch of humor. Food was excellent and reservations online made it a simple, great, romantic experience!
Love this restaurant. Never disappoints and the food is always great! Our GO TO place.
This is my first time being there. Initailly, we had a hard time finding parking. We wish that there is a valet parking in the future. At the end, we've managed to find a street parking 2 blocks away. We got in and ordered grilled baby squid (Calamari alla Griglia). It was prepared wonderfully. Then, we ordered husemade pasta with mushroom and seafood risotto. They are excellent choices. At the end, we have a tiramisu as desert. That was the highlight of the night. We ended up ordering Gnocchi con Salsa Aurora and the housemade pasta with mushroom to go. My kids love it. We will go back there again!
Great food (lamb chops and swordfish). Excellent wine list. Good value for the $$ we have gone many times over the last few years
Dined here the first time 3 years ago, loved it. But kind of forgot about it until this trip. Will be a stop for me every time I am in town, which is once a month.
Cafe Milano is my favorite Italian restaurant in San Francisco. The food is great the ambience is cozy and friendly and they even have a Brunelo by the glass.
The owner is warm and welcoming. The staff are attentive, friendly and patient. The restaurant has its regular menu, a menu of highlighted specials, and some daily specials. There were no complaints, only praises for the food and friendly atmosphere for a relaxed meal with friends. We went with the white wine they were featuring that day; we were not disappointed. This is a cozy neighborhood gem.
Definitely the best Italian restaurant we’ve ever eaten at. Food, service, atmosphere were spot on.
Best restaurant that most people haven’t heard of in SF. Always delicious and great service.
Awesome menu! We had trouble narrowing our choices to one each for the evening. Each was excellent! Service was timely but unobtrusive, and friendly! Lots of apparent locals in the establishment - definitely a neighborhood pick! It's been there for over 30 years and for good reason! We'll be back!
Unbelievable food and wine from top to bottom. Aldo’s a great host (and owner) and the Lasagna and angel hair pasta was to die for. Can’t wait to come back again! Ten thumbs up!!
Always wonderful food and a delightful experience. Great wine list. This is a good to spot for us as out of towners (Napa Valley).
Ristorante Milano consistently delivers good experience with delicious food and warm hospitality. Although we dined on NYE and the restaurant was extremely busy, unlike at other restaurants, the food at Ristorante Milano did not disappoint: the anchovies appetizer was excellent although the burrata one had a bit of soggy arugula; veal scaloppini and swordfish were delicious as well. Out of three desserts ordered, the chocolate almond cake was the most decadent one. We love this neighborhood gem and always look forward to dining here.
Nice place and would visit again but not the kind of quality food I was looking for. I had a much better experience previous times but did not recognize the waiter/host this time around (4 months later) - not sure if something changed. Service was great though.
Very nice New Years. Excellent Italian.
We actually thought we were going to a restaurant that we had previously visited. Initially bummed, but food was good, service was very good and considering it was New Years Eve they delivered.
We enjoyed the NYE tasting menu with the chosen wine selections. Each bite was delectable and perfectly prepared. A very special menu for a special night. Thanks to all at Ristorante Milano!
We recently came to RM to dine as a family based on a review of the restaurant's homemade pasta. While the pasta (linguini) was very good, everything else left something to be desired and generally missed the mark. You might like RM because it's intimate and charming and located in the Russian Hill neighborhood of SF giving it a local, off the beaten path vibe. The service was efficient but lacked the spirit of warmth that I generally enjoy about authentic, family operated Italian restaurants. The food was the real let-down. The swordfish with tapenade was probably the best entree - certainly better than the gnochi which was not properly rolled and was served in too large a quantity...though topped with white truffles. Likewise the lasagna was oversized and lacked the delicate flavors one might expect of something delicately crafted. The two wines we sampled, a barolo and a barbera were lacking in depth and, frankly, were indistinguishable. The bottom line is that the restaurant is charming but the food, which is almost all I care about, was not worth a return trip. Three entrees, four glasses of wine, two dishes of pasta topped $300 (including tip). The price would have been worth it if the meal simply tasted better. Come for the ambiance, not the food.
We loved it. The white truffles were an unexpected pleasure and the vibe was wonderful. Would go again and again
Apart from having to wait for almost an hour for our table to be ready (we had a reservation for 8.30 but was not seated until close to 9.30) the meal and service was excellent. Maybe they should be a bit more realistic with the time their guests take, especially at busy holiday times.
Great little neighborhood gem! We went for Christmas Eve dinner and unfortunately had to wait even though we had a reservation. The rainy weather caused a lot of people to arrive late and created a bit of a snowball effect. But the staff really did a great job given the situation and once seated our service was stellar! The lasagna with homemade pasta was amazing and my boyfriend loved the sardine appetizer. Also, great wine recommendation from the owner. If they had a bar area we'd probably be there more often.
Authentic Italian food selections, outstanding service, the owner present looking after all things. Intimate seating smaller restaurant, very knowledgeable staff. Not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. We'll be back...
Excellent meal, delicious bruschetta and lasagna. Outstanding service.
Amazing high quality Italian food with great service!
One of our absolute favorites in San Francisco. Must have a reservation.
Seated promptly. Greeted by name. Fast and courteous service.
This little restaurant is packed full of goodies. The food was beyond fantastic. The desert was just the right portion and light enough after a hefty meal. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem.
3 of us ate here last Friday - you must make a reservation for a busy night! We didn't have a long wait for our table but every table was packed well into the evening. Service was prompt and friendly. We split a bottle of the red wine special - it was delicious and reasonable. Food came out quickly and piping hot - almost too hot to eat immediately so we knew it wasn't sitting for long. Risotto was amazing as were the veal and pasta dishes.
The owner was very sweet and offered a table by the Window if we wanted to wait a moment. Waitress was a special person from the Northern Italian region (specifically Torino) and made our experience more authentic and told us about her area and the truffles that are in seAson now . The special day f the evening was white truffle pasta which was from the region where she grew up and truly special. Lovely neighborhood bistro and the locals were clamoring to get tables themselves. If you can make reservations here. You won’t be disappointed!
Wonderful wonderful wonderful. Waiter and servers excellent. Price good. Fresh food. Delicious homemade pasta. Will go back for sure.
Long time since I had a nice not overly priced, fresh food, dinner with friendly staff, in SF.
It was a Friday night and the place was full. We still receive service, we were not forgotten. Old school service. The owner is there to greet you.
The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was excellent. It’s a very small space but it’s extremely cozy. The perfect spot for a date night.
Great food, authentic and the menu is just big enough that they can do everything really well. Great atmosphere too and the staff were great, nice family run feel. Wine was also excellent, will definitely make this a regular.
Very solid performer
I would have liked more Milan dishes like veal Milanese and polenta dishes
Our guest had recommended this restaurant because we wanted to try someplace that served Italian food. It was an excellent choice, lovely meal, wonderful attentive service. We will go back.
Fantastic we love the whole expeience
Amazing Italian meals in a quiet and cozy boutique restaurant. The food is amazing. Worth the trip!
A lovely neighborhood gem. The owner, waiter and bus staff were all warm and welcoming. The food was delicious.
Nice place, good food. People sitting close to us were loud and their conversation about narrow nasal passages and snoring was a little weird. Tables close together. But very good food.
