Me and my wife came here for a much needed date night due to how well reviewed it was. I figured, little Italy...had to be great. We were not impressed to say the least. We came during happy hour and without any kind of explanation, it wasn’t happening. When i asked the waiter about happy hour his response was “were not doing it”. Ummm ok. Good talk.
I ordered their version of chicken picatta and my wife got the chicken parm. The food was, well, food. Forgettable after the first bite. We LOVE Italian food and this was no better than something we could’ve whipped up at home.
We were there for about an hour and I’d say we saw our waiter three times total. Once to take our order. Once to check on the food (he did not deliver the food). And once with the check. It almost seemed he was bothered to have to be working. We were one of maybe 5 tables so it’s not like the place was swamped.
With all the actually incredible restaurants in the area this is definitely one we won’t be frequenting again and one I wouldn’t recommend to any of my friends or family.
I came because for the carbonara, the reviews said it was really good and they were wrong ...it was amazing!
Have always had a great experience at Ristorante Illando. The staff are so kind, the food is always excellent and authentic, and the service is great. Love bringing friends and family to this restaurant!
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. We ordered the meat and cheese plate for 2. This was enormous and we had enough take away to feed 2 people dinner the following day, I had the lamb chops which were cooked nicely, with a lovely glass of montepuciano, my husband devoured the meat lasagna. We would happily eat there again, on our next trip to San Diego.
Excellent food! Excellent service!
Love, love, love! We all enjoyed our dishes. Especially enjoyed the outdoor seating. The Burrata was delicious and the homemade Tiramisu is a must for dessert.
Had the hubby's birthday dinner here and we absolutely enjoyed it! We had the Calamari Fritti, Brussel sprouts, Pappardelle Bolognese and Spaghetti Carbonara which were all delicious. We could not stop raving about the brussell sprouts, which were still soo crispy even after we already had the pasta. We also had such a nice ambiance with our view of little italy and would definitely come here again for some wine and pasta!
Amazing! GIANLUCA was great!!
Great service. Food was excellent. Definitely would go back.
This is our favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego! We come here for every date night and get the short rib tortellini and request Eddie as our server. AMAZING!
Very friendly staff to go with the wonderful flavors of their food. We very much enjoyed the meal.
If you get Fast Eddie as your server you’re in for a good time! Food and service was great.
Amazing service, amazing food. Will be back.
I truly believe this is one of Little Italy's best kept secrets. We absolutely loved our dining experience. Our waitress Sara was charming and made great conversation with us and is very knowledgeable of the items on the menu. We love the banter that was going on between the waitresses and the waiters as they all spoke Italian and were in great spirits. We really felt like we were in Italy! The food was extremely authentic very tasty and very high quality. The restaurant itself is above the pizzeria and has a very intimate feeling to it. We genuinely felt like we were in someone's Italian home having dinner.
Had a great night here. Our first time at this restaurant. My friends all enjoyed their food as did I. It was easy to get a reservation at the time we wanted via Open Table. They only had two selections for a glass of white wine, but the one I chose was perfect, luckily. We had to wait down on in the sidewalk for our table to be ready. The restaurant is up some stairs above a pizza place. It had a cozy home atmosphere. We will go back.
Super nice people and great food! Will go back for Happy Hour.
I recommend the restaurant. My wife and I attended for my birthday and the food/service was very good. My only issue was the location of our table at the top of the stairs so it was cold, noisy and everyone entering the restaurant walked past our table.
Amazing food and amazing staff!!
Authentic Italian restaurant among pretenders in San Diego’s Little Italy! Check it out...
Great Food, Great Wine, Great Service and Great Location. If you are in SanDiego and want outstanding Italian food this is the place to go. The staff is really personable, and our waiter Eddie was fantastic. I will be back 🇺🇸👍
My girlfriend and I come here often. In my opinion this restaurant is the best for authentic and fresh Italian food in San Diego, it’s one of San Diego’s best kept secrets, ignore the tourist recommendations you’ll get online for filippi’s or whatever else and try this place. When my girlfriend and I are missing italy and want food that tastes like a home cooked meal with restaurant presentation we come here and no where else. We are usually served by Sara and another gentleman but I can’t think of his name, however the service is always friendly and feels like home.
Good food, great service, ambiance could be better
This was my first time to the restaurant. The food was outstanding. Service was great and the atmosphere was fun. Pasta is home made. I had the seafood with pasta and brussel sprouts and my friend's had the raviolli and spaghetti. Terrific.
I didn’t realize you had to walk up stairs to get to the restaurant. Not convenient for anyone with handicap but doable.
The pasta was very good and the bruschetta was fresh but underwhelming. Our service was excellent as well as the ambiance. We loved the small, intimate setting but the restaurant was hard to find as it is above another one and not clearly marked. We were late for our reservation because we wandered around trying to find it. Difficult parking but that is the nature of Little Italy.
Small quaint place. Older as the lights were dimming in and out throughout our meal. There was a bit of time between when our water came, then the oil and vinegar and a bit more time for the bread. We decided to order everything at once just in case.
Excellent value. Food was good, sprouts were excellent!
My husband and I had such a lovely experience at Ristorante Illando for my 30th birthday. Our server was so sweet and helpful, and the food was amazing. The overall brought us back to our favorite trip to Italy.
I almost decided not to eat here because of some of the bad reviews. My friend convinced me that it would be okay so we went for it. IT WAS FANTASTIC! The food, the waiter, the ambience, the wine....every single thing was amazing. The next night, we went to a place also in Little Italy that had the same review and we were so disappointed. We kept telling ourselves to forget how good everything was at Ristorante Illando and just try to appreciate this new place but we couldn't. Ristorante Illando was a hard act to follow. And BTW I have never written a review before...i just felt like I wanted to tell others who might be concerned about some of the bad reviews...don't be!
Our fav italian restaurant in Lil' Italy!
Food was excellent! But, some of Dining staff, including a receptionist had not enough paying attention to their business.
Great food and wine selection.
We had a great experience at Ristorante Illando. The food was amazing, the service was superb, and I can’t wait to go back next time we’re in SD. The chicken parmagiana was incredible as was the lobster ravioli. The pizza downstairs was incredible as well. This place is a must recommend!
The food was excellent! And so was our server! She was so pleasant and fast.
Muy rico! Buen sevicio
Server was not kind
Service felt very rushed like the couldn't wait for us to leave.
Second visit to Illando and pleased again. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the Caesar Salad is fantastic. The atmosphere is warm and cozy as the 2nd floor of an old house. A perfect spot for a cold winter evening, even in San Diego. We'll be back for sure! Cheers!
Excellent food and great service. I truly enjoyed my dinner that night.
Fantastic good and great service!
Food was fantastic. Service was a little slow but where isn’t in San Diego - they move at a different pace.
