"When I decided to open Ristorante Illando, I had a vision in my head...my cozy house back in Firenze, Italy; my family dining table filled with the food I grew up with. Now I can surround you with the warmth of my Italian home and an authentic Italian meal here at Illando. Benvenuti e buon appetito a tutti!!"
Located just above Little Italy San Diego's popular pizza shop, Landini's Pizzeria.
Food wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t awesome either. For a $20 plate of pasta, I expect something better. Otherwise good service and a nice restaurant.
The service was very good (all servers were attentive and polite) and the upper room is sweet in its simplicity. I gave four stars because there wasn't anything special about the food. The flavor of the bruschetta was nice but all of the tomatoes were hard. For a caprese salad it would be nice to have vine-ripened tomatoes--they were flavorless and out of season. I would say all of the food was just fine, but nothing especially stood out. The coffee was good, but the bar was very limited in what it could offer.
Our food was delicious, as always! We always love having Eddie look after us! Will definitely be back again soon.
Seafood was amazing vacationing from Chicago . Great service , even thou weather was terrible . Still enjoyed the ocean view !! Will Be Back !!
This is a great gem! We had wonderful service, food was quick, and they gave us the best seat in the house! We didn't feel rushed at all and they told us to take as long as we needed. Highly recommend! The food was delicious!
Loved this place! Only reason didn’t give it 4 stars across all categories is that we sat by the stairs/door and it was very cold since the hostess staff left the door open.
I had a lovely seafood pasta. The staff was very present. Caesar salad was not particularly good. I would go back again though.
Great meal in a nice family friendly restaurant.
The food was delicious! The was just okay. Wish the waiter had been more attentive to us.
I believe the waiter forgot to put our order in. Waited almost 45 minutes to get our food after being told it was a slow Saturday night by another server. Food was good but not great. Disappointing experience overall.
We had a great experience overall. Our server was very attentive and the service was on point. We ordered the spaghetti with mussels and shrimp as well as the lobster ravioli. The food was amazing!! Would recommend this restaurant!
Upstairs and not a great deal of space but has a homey feel. We were sat facing window looking down on the street— which was kinda cool but we ended up having our backs to the dining room. Service was slow and eventually became nonexistent. Asked for water refills and and after 20 minutes we still had not gotten it. Waited even longer for the check and finally had to go up to server station and ask for it. Food was good and prices somewhat reasonable but the service would be enough to make me not return. The restroom was also a bit sketchy — down a little hall that lines form since there is only one restroom— and the window air conditioner in the restroom was not properly installed/maintained leaving space where someone could see in or out!
service was very good food was good just wish they would get small pizza boxes for your leftover pizza as when they fold it over in a plastic container it mushes together and ruins it.
My first time in Little Italy San Diego which is a very sweet little neighborhood. It was still decorated with Xmas and when we left there was a street juggler. Lots of people walking around and lots of restaurants to choose from. Asking is tough and lots seemed to be full early. I went with Yelpers choice and I was a bit disappointed. The up stairs space is cute but the service and food was ok/good nothing extraordinary. We had a meat lasagne, spaghetti with meat sauce and spaghetti with white wine and clams. The noodles were al dente. I like mine a little softer but that is just a personal preference. Everything tasted fine but nothing was super outstanding. Also had the tiramisu which had a strong expresso flavor. I enjoyed it but you have to like very rich desserts!
We went to Ristorante Illando on Christmas for dinner (had a reservation). While we were aware that this was not a high end or fancy place, we imagined this would be a cosy charming way to have a quiet Italian Christmas dinner. Unfortunately we were 100% wrong. The servers/manager were extremely unprofessional; the manager loudly berated his employees in front of customers TWICE, and there was clearly some conflict going on. The servers were obviously unhappy and distracted by the unprofessional manager. The ambiance was extremely awkward because all the customers were witnessing the arguing between servers (it's a relatively small space), but still trying to enjoy their christmas dinner out. On top of all of this, the food was not even good - it came out strangely fast (literally 5 minutes after ordering) and had little flavor going on. If you are looking for an AWKWARD special night out, with the focus on employee drama, and mediocre food, then this would be the place for you. Otherwise, I'd avoid it. Very disappointing, given the high reviews.
I love the restaurant and the food is great! I would love to come back at night!
Felt like we were dining in someones home, we had a great cozy December dinner! The restaurant is above a pizzeria and we had a view of the holiday lights and all the people out on a Saturday night walking down India Street. We shared the Burranta con Prosciutto and Fusilli Chiantigiana. Both were delicious, we left the restaurant very full!
Best pasta! Love this small little Italian restaurant. Service is always polite but not always super attentive.
Last night was a wonderful dinner. Our server made our anniversary EXTREMELY special. It was our first night in San Diego and it was a dream come true. Absolutely phenomenal. Will recommend to all family/friends coming to San Diego.
What a great little spot up above the street in Little Italy!! The food and service were incredible. We will be back.
One of the best Italian restaurants that I’ve ever eaten at. (And I just spent 2 weeks in Italy). Do yourself a favor and check this place out!! I personally guarantee that you won’t be sorry you did!
Had 8:15 reservation and didn't get seated until 9. This ruined the entire for us. The hostess with blonde hair didn't seem to know how to do her job.
DO NOT CHOOSE TO SIT OUTSIDE. Pictures are misleading indoor dining room is beautiful but back patio area was messy, loud, and bad service. Food was good.
I was dissatisfied in the overall service. I came here last year and had a wonderful experience. This time I had to ask for the water to be refilled, reminder on drinks from the bar and most of all one of the pizzas ordered came out an hour after our dinner was served. I felt that should have been comped but I just paid the bill with the 18 percent tip included.
Excellent from start to finish. Burrata appetizer, charcuterie with meats, jams, cheeses, wonderful
We had the carbonara, raviolis, eggplant parmigiana and pasta with sausage. Excellent all around!!!
Food was average.
I helped organize a gathering here that included families with young children. The staff took great care of us, made sure the kids got food quickly, and even let one of the group, who knew little about Italian food, order something simple that wasn't on the menu. It was a real family experience, and I'll be a loyal patron of this place.
Amazing food and service. A little gem in Little Italy!
Dime was great, good was good... ambiance was great too.
The food was fantastic. The service was impeccable (far superior to most of Little Italy) and the ambiance was delightful. I would gladly do it again!
This is a terrific little place up the stairs with a sweet view of India Street. The bread is terrific!
We were enjoy a staycation in San Diego and enjoyed the cioppino
Food was amazing. They also have great bread with balsamic and olive oil that was great for snacking. Definitely recommend the spaghetti Vongole and the lobster ravioli!
Amazing food! Great service. Will be back!
God food in a Nice comfort place
The service was superior and the food was good. We had pizza that we shared. The only bad thing was they put our leftover pizza in a small plastic container folded over so the leftovers were all mushed together the next day and we could not pull the pieces apart. Small pizza box or even wrapped in foil would work.
This is a quirky little authentic Italian trattoria upstairs over a Pizzeria in the heart of Little Italy. It was the kind of place where you might find Mama cooking in the kitchen, although I’m sure that was not the case. I think most of the staff is Italian. We were tourists but it looked like the rest in the small dining room were local. We had the Ciaoppino, good if not great. The mussels didn’t taste as fresh as they should but the broth was tasty. We should have had pasta. Dinner for two was a little over $100 with a $39 bottle of wine. A fun experience and made me homesick for Tuscany.
The food is fantastically delicious. Very unique
Small intimate dining but not quiet. Great for group of friends wanting a place to eat well and talk/laugh a lot. Staff is all Italian so feels very authentic.
Visiting SD and wanted last minute Italian and this place amazing! Hidden gem above the pizza joint with the same name. Like a mobsters hideout.
