With 52 seats, the restaurant is intimate yet relaxed, the tunes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin can be overheard in the background. It's a great place to dine for dinner or a great lunch and we are very fortunate that the food critics have loved us and have given us great reviews.
One of my favorite signature dishes is the Oyster Oreganate which consists of oysters lightly dusted in Italian bread crumbs, baked and finished with Romano cheese and fresh parsley. This is just one of my favorites from our menu of veal, seafood, pasta and steak dishes.
Excepeptional dining experience as usual!!!
From service to delicious food and fantastic service!
Our favorite neighborhood restaurant.Recommend for any occasion!!!!
The problem is that the service is very slow and the place is extremely tight. But food is delicious
We had reservations and arrived a few minutes before. We waited just a few minutes, which was fine. The place was packed, loud(sounded like a football cheering squad!). We were seated at a table against the wall, with built in bench seating on one side and a chair on the other. The tables on either side of us were maybe 10 inches from us. Ok. No big deal. Noone came to our table for 10 minutes. Then, when the obviously over-wrought waitress came to take our drink orders, we also put in an ordered for an appetizer. 10 minutes later she brought our drinks. We waited for our appetizer. She came back and took our dinner order after 5 minutes. We waited for our appetizer and my husbands salad. Nothing. Finally, about 40 minutes after getting our drinks, a waiter came out with our entrees. My husband and I were done. We called for our waitress, who said the oyster appetizer we ordered takes 20 minutes. Well, it had been 30 minutes since we ordered it, and where was the salad. They said they would take the entrees back, but I didn't want to eat food that sat under a heat lamp for another 20 minutes. We decided to cut our losses and leave. We had been there an hour and had 1 glass of wine and a coke. The owner refused our payment for the wine and coke. She was very nice and apologetic, but it was too little too late. We had been there several times before, but not on a Saturday. All the other times were fine. But the noise level was intense. We could hardly hear each other. And the service was non-existent. It was a shame. We went to another similar restaurant, were served and attended to, and left feeling fine.
Seated next to a loud obnoxious vulgar mouth group of 7-8 people. I had to tell them to hold it down so my table could talk! Restaurants should learn to put big groups away from couples and small groups.
Waitress kept getting lost-felt very ignored. I’ve been here many times before and never experienced bad service or such noise.
Thankfully the food was great, as usual.
I said yes, I would recommend this restaurant based not on my experience on Friday evening, but on previous experiences with the restaurant. Friday evening, a group of friends went there to have dinner with one of our friends from out of town, who was in town for the weekend. We had an absolute nightmarish experience. Our reservation was for 7. We didn't leave there until 10. They were "short-staffed, had a lot of walk-ins, had 2 big parties, etc. They had a lot of excuses, but the service was abominable. The food was not up to its usual standards, either. There were high points -- the spinach and artichoke soup, the pork chop. The picatta dishes were just okay. The fish in the fish almondine was over battered, over fried and the almonds were just shy of burned. The salad was full of brown lettuce. They don't have a bartender so each server has to make the drinks for the tables that they are waiting and our waiter was usually no where to be found. We had to get up and ask, after waiting and waiting, when we might get our food. Same for drinks. We waited an hour before our appetizer order got taken. Ordered a bottle of wine to be informed they don't carry it; so, take it off the wine list then. When we selected another bottle, the waiter had to look and look and look for it. When he finally found it he uncorked it, but we had to pour it ourselves. It was too hot in the restaurant, too. Don't know why. Granted, at the end of the meal, the manager came and offered us an after dinner drink or a dessert, but we had already had dessert and it was late and we just wanted to get out of there. They did not comp the salad that wasn't eaten. They could have comped the desserts that had already been ordered, but they didn't. That said, I know things happen and we have had many pleasant meals there in the past and will probably go back, but it was a really bad night.
Everything was excellent, food. service and atmosphere. Ample servings. quality food, and reasonably priced.
Our favorite neighborhood restaurant!!!!
We have never been disappointment withi Filippo's. The serving are very generous. Everyone leaves with a "doggie bag". I would recommend splitting entries unless you have a huge appetite. Bon Appetite!
Great service Great Food Great location Great atmosphere and the people were very nice
The gem of Metairie. One of the very few remaining family run Italian restaurants left in the New Orleans area. Hand-crafted dishes by the owner/chef are sure to please. A variety of menu options that has something for everyone.
The eggplant napoleon was magnificent creation and the veal entrees we had were excellent. The restaurant transports you to a time when New Orleans was filled with family run restaurants that catered to your every need.
A highly recommended stop for anyone who appreciates a well designed menu that is executed to perfection.
We had a party of 7 and loved every minute of our 2 1/2 hours there. Good, ambiance, service were all perfect. The tables area little close but that adds to the ambiance.
Delicious food and good prices.
Owners came by to visit and our server, Michael was very pleasant and helpful
A hidden little gem in Metairie, LA that not only has the best Italian food around, but the most gracious owners. Do not miss Ristorante Filippo!
Brought relatives that were in town for Stones concert, during Hurricane Barry (The Little Storm That Wasn’t). In spite of almost no employees, Phillip did an excellent job preparing food all by himself. Food was wonderful, ambiance was perfect - we had a fabulous time!!! Thank you Phillip!
On a storm watch weekend, short staffed kitchen. Still managed to get the food out in a timely manner.
Service & Food was spectacular
We’ve been here once before and liked it but probably won’t go back after our experience last night. We got there and had to stand in the awkward doorway with waitstaff running into us for 10 minutes waiting for our table even though we had a reservation. It’s a very small restaurant but last night we were sat with our table of two touching a very loud obnoxious table of 15 and the entire time we were there the wait staff bumped into our table serving them. Our waitress was very strange, rude and inept. Never brought my husband’s drink, brought him the wrong salad and then took 30 minutes to bring the correct one while mine sat on our table. Never a word of apology or acknowledgement. We ordered fettuccini Alfredo as a side and the waitress said “you know that’s a white sauce right?” like we were idiots. During the meal multiple sullen teenagers attended to various bread/water/boxing tasks-all of them had zero manners and seemed intent upon conveying their misery at having to work Saturday night to the customers. I’d rather spend the hundred dollars at one of the many other Italian restaurants in Metairie that have better service and ambiance.
Food and service was excellent. Our first time eating here. Was recommended by a friend. Our waitress Laurie was very attentive and personable. Our meal was great. Had the eggplant Napoleon, split a small Italian salad, shared a side of Italian sausage with their awesome marinara sauce and shared the chicken Marsala. Both the sausage and the Marsala Are some of the best I’ve ever had. Every dish was fresh and delicious. We were especially happy that our server asked us when we would like our entree to put in. We were not rushed. My wife will be back for sure and I would recommend anyone to try this hidden gem.
This is a charming little restaurant just off the I-10 in Metairie, LA. It looks tiny from the outside, but there are two levels of seating inside and the seating is very efficiently organized so that they can serve more diners than you would expect. The decor is very attractive and the bar area is very cozy. The food is delicious and served in quite ample portions. Our server was very attentive but not intrusive. He is also quite knowledgeable about the food and wines. In fact, the servers do everything and thus you feel like you get personalized service, and of course you do! We had a wonderful meal and I would consider this a little gem of a find. I look forward to my next visit.
Great meal but hall service was poor
Great family restaurant. I enjoy going to this restaurant because of the personal service and attention from the staff.
Everything was delicious. We especially enjoyed the Eggplant Napoleon and the Bread Pudding.
Ristorante Filippo never disappoints. Always so much food you have dinner for the next night!
This restaurant was recommended to us by a local while we were all at a bridge tournament. The food was excellent whether your main course was a crab salad or special entrees. I would also recommend the bread pudding. If back in Metairie I would certainly eat there again
Very good food at very good prices!
Outstanding. Anna was the best and Phillip never disappoints!
This is one of my favorite restaurants. We go often. However, our last visit was very disappointing.
They did not open on time. Service was extremely slow - from taking our order to delivering food and drink.
We will go again, but with a smaller party and only when our regular waiter is working.
Food and selection excellent. Especiallly like the veal or chicken picata. Nice atmosphere....easy parking.
Very warm atmosphere. Family owned. Husband is the chef, and the wife is in the restaurant and both always make you feel special.
Excellent food and service. Parking is limited on site but readily available nearby. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Only downside was the noise level. To be fair we were seated near a large table with 8-10 very loud people. Overall a good experience and will definitely return.
I made reservations for my husband's birthday at Filippo. That morning, a friend told me that she had a bad experience there six months ago; however, recalling a good meal I had there (more than ten years ago), I decided to keep the 7:30pm reservation. I wish I had listened to her. First, we were escorted to a back room, not more than 120 square feet with 3 tables. We were asked if the room would be sufficient and we said yes, not realizing it would be so hot and noisy after the other two tables were filled. That issue aside, the meal was terrible. Our appetizer was somewhat timely - calamari was nicely fried; the marinara sauce, though, was forgettable. However, our salads took an hour after we ordered them - apparently the waitress failed to enter our order. The caprese salad was dreadful. Two slices of tomato, each topped with a slim slice of mozzarella on a bed of lettuce. Lettuce, in a caprese salad?? Absolutely not! And on this salad, lettuce was the main attraction. The Caesar salad was worse. It was lettuce, swimming in watered-down dressing. The main courses were equally abysmal. We both ordered veal dishes and they were bland, flavorless and the sauces inedible. Granted, we ate the veal because, at this point (9:15 p.m.), we were starving. When our server asked how the meal was, we were honest and told her we did not enjoy it. The hostess (owner??) then came to the table and treated us as though we were complaining simply to get a free meal, which I clearly advised was not the case. We were being honest when asked about our experience. She was combative and by the time she left, made us feel as though it was our fault that the meal was so bad. On the upside, the bread and wine (5 glasses, which is a full bottle) were ok, but the wine portions were too small (guarantee there was wine left in the bottle they used) and overpriced. Will never go back and will make sure others know about this.
Good looking place, with friendly staff. An adequate menu, and wine list. Food quality was excellent, but food prep could have been better. All seafood was cooked well, veal & pasta were too. Sadly, the tomato sauce was poor, and I can't stand deep fried (over fried) eggplant.
Certainly a good dining experience, especially if one stays clear of the tomato sauce & ruined eggplant.
We were in town just for the night and decided to try them! It was wonderful! Very nice atmosphere with homey charm. Service was friendly and fast! We were there when it first opened so this may have helped but the portions were huge and we enjoyed it for a second time at home. I would highly recommend it! It was delicious!
Celebrated my anniversary the service was great and they !st my needs of having family for appetizers and drinks. They were very responsive
The food is always wonderful and the setting is authentic.
Server seemed to rush dinner. Entre was delivered before salad and soup were finished approximately 10 minutes after placing order. Total time at dinner 45 minutes from sitting to leaving.
Dessert was not mentioned.
