Rips on the Lake is an American-style 80-years old restaurant. The double-storied building accommodates 70 people in the outdoor frontal porch, 40 people in the dining room, 40 people upstairs and 20 people in the bar. A one-sided road separates the restaurant from the Lake Pontchartrain. Rips on the Lake offers fresh breeze and spectacular view of the lake. The fresco-style dining rooms are decorated with vibrant artifacts. It has a café-style seating arrangement. Rips on the Lake is suitable for families with kids.
Rips on the Lake offers seasonal cuisines from the sea and farms. Oysters on the half shell are served from September to April. The shrimp cocktail is served with a spicy cocktail sauce. Black and blue salad is topped with large chunks of sirloin steak. Tossed bleu cheese chunks resting on the bed of lettuce and dipped in the Quatro Fromage vinaigrette adds to the magic.
Good food, great view.
After looking forward to dining at Rip's for months we were unfortunately very let down. We dined for a late lunch/early dinner and were very disappointed with the entire experience. While our server was attentive he was also void of any personality. We were there celebrating our anniversary and even though it was notated on our reservation there was no mention of it from any of the staff. The food was mediocre at best and mediocre is being generous. The shrimp was overly fishy as though no preparation was done beforehand. The asparagus was flavorless and the chocolate tart was like something you'd buy from the frozen dessert aisle at your local grocer. The bar was the only part of the restaurant that was busy so I'm confused as to why the food was so poorly done. We won't go back and definitely would not recommend.
I went in after moving back to old Mandeville & brought a friend. My friend got a business call as soon as we were seated, but the kitchen staff were able to get our food ready and in to go containers within 15 minutes! Front of house staff were accommodating and friendly, and Roslyn Prieto, the owner, chatted us up and entertained us with some local history while we waited for our meal. Even after a 10 minute drive back to the office, the food was hot and delicious. Will be back for 1/2 priced oysters on the half shell on Wednesdays, and again on Thursdays for 25c Martinis!
Took friends from out of town and the 'fresh drum' tasted like frozen drum. Not just my dish but my friends dish also. Oh well, stick to the friend food as they do a good job. The raw oysters were very good and drinks were good also.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in the Madison-Mandevile-Covington triangle.
The view is unbeatable from the large porch overlong the Ponchartrain. The food has always been good, seasoned perfectly. Seafood or steaks, you can't go wrong. The staff has always been great and attentive. On this trip we had sautéed Crab claws and royal red shrimp (Excellent) Ribeye and shrimp, and key lime pie.
Very good. Was quite crowded because of homecoming, but was handled well. We had excellent service from our waiter. He was great!
The server was great. We sat outdoors and it was beautiful. Food all three meals we ordered and appetizers were excellent. The only downside was the hostess was a bit unfriendly. Everyone else was very nice and welcoming.
Really enjoyed all of the food and the ambiance. The buster crab appetizer with crab meat is just outstanding. The crabs with poached eggs and hollandaise were excellent as were the shrimp and grits. Excellent bloody mary. Will definately go back. Sat on the deck and it was just lovely. Our server was very nice and accomodating.
We were afraid to dine there after reading the negative reviews but our motel desk clerk recommended it and we were glad we tried it.
Such great food...The wine list needs a little help..but the food and atmosphere were amazing..we will go back soon...Our server was attentive but not irritating everything was done correctly my date was impressed as well
