There aren't a ton of compelling reasons to go downtown for dinner these days, but Rioja is still one of them.
3 must have dishes: tortelloni, bacon and the beignets. I expect all food to be exquisite, need to return to try more dishes...I’ve been to lots of $$ restautants and Rioja is one of my favorites, outstanding service and food.
Jessica is a fantastic waitress and every visit to Rioja is an incredible experience.
Overall had a great experience. Our reservation was for 9pm, but we weren't seated until 9:30pm because the party sitting at our table were taking too long. ultimately that's not my problem but they made up for it by giving the table a free round of drinks. Food and service were great and everything
Having been to many restaurants and living mostly in NYC Philadelphia and LA least 5 years, this restaurant would easily receive a Michelin star, possibly two. Unique dishes, excellent execution and service.
Outstanding meal. Service was fantastic as was every course we had. Definitely would recommend checking this place out!
Everything was excellent!
Excellent food and service. We definitely will comeback.
From being warmly greeted by Cassie, the Manager, who remembered us from Stoic & Genuine, and bringing some champagne to our table, to the food--fresh bread, crudo scallop, salmon, lemon tart, & chocolate flourless cake--plus great service by Kristin and the other wait staff. Truly a great way to celebrate our anniversary.
Everything was just OK. Went there prepared to spend a lot of money but planned to get great food. Unfortunately everything was just OK and it made the large bill frustrating to pay because we could have spent much less and gotten more flavorful and delicious food elswhere. Service was 5 star though.
Dining room temperature on the cool side. Attentive service.
Amazing food in a lovely restaurant right in downtown. We will come here every time we visit Denver.
We had brunch reservations before going to a theatre matinee on Mother’s Day. The service was possibly the worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. We gave ourselves two hours to have plenty of time before the performance. After an hour and ten minutes we’d been served a cup of soup and some cheese. I let our server know that we had theatre tickets in 50 minutes. We were having egg dishes which don’t take hours to prepare. After 15 minutes, still no food. My husband had to ask to see a manager. I said something again to the server who was really dismissive and gave me, “Yeah yeah don’t worry, you’ll be fine.” Finally at 20 minutes before our performance started, the director of operations showed up, very apologetic and offered to put the eggs in boxes for us to take with us to the theatre. I’m sure those sitting nearby would have appreciated the aroma of eggs and bacon.
We’ve always had good experiences but this was awful and especially considering it was Mother’s Day. And the worst part is that even though they were given multiple opportunities to make things right, they did not.
Service and food is always amazing! We went for Mother's Day, as it is my wife's favorite spot!
The food was delicious, the staff were courteous and fast. The ingredients were incredible and the decor was fantastic. I am from San Diego, and would definitely come here again.
Mother’s Day outing. Nice restaurant, very busy but not too loud at tables in front. Good service. Artichoke tortelloni was good enough. Maybe a tad overpriced—almost $35 for seared scallops. Lemon dessert was disappointing.
Tell the chef everything was wonderful except the house salad was way too salty.
we had a lovely time and lots of laughs. the Vegetarian Four Square was delicious and well presented and the Rose wine super beautiful.
The place and the people were very nice. The lambburger was charred so badly it tasted burned. Not my taste. Burger and a beer for $29? I can do much better for half price at any good bistro. The only reason the noise level was moderate was because we had lunch at 1:30 and most people had left by the time we ordered.
Had a late reservation. Was greeted by valet who informed us there was no service after nine even though we confirmed there was indeed valet service for our needs with the restaurant. Felt rushed by service staff ... we get it that they wanted to finish up their night. Lots of cavorting behind the bar (the area we sat near). Fairly obnoxious. Again, however, we did have a reservation. Confusion in service as our salads were whisked away and we were told we could look at dessert menus if we’d like. Had to remind our entrees had not arrived yet. The 80+ wine was never repoured after initial tasting. Overall, food was good.
Fantastic meal, service, atmosphere and location. Great experience.
Excellent meal and excellent service!
Been to Rioja several times (had aleays been one of my favs) and had always had a great experience. However this time it was completely disappointing. The food was basically average, and not nearly as unique as I had expected.
I'm sorry, I don't like to give below-average reviews however thought it would be worthwhile to make the ownership and Leadership there aware.
We had a wonderful time! Food was great and the service was excellent, too!
I have been coming to Rioja for years and it never disappoints. Beyond a doubt one of the top restaurants in Denver
We had a wonderful dinner! Our servers were professionals who cared about our experience. The food was beyond expectations for flavor and presentation. Sitting outside made for a fabulous people watching night. It was prom night, derby now got and cinco de mayo!
We sat on the patio for lunch and had great service and exquisite food! The artichoke tortellini was outstanding, and the craft cocktails wet the palate but leave you wanting more! Such a treat!
My daughter and her husband were in from out of town so we decided to make the half hour drive and have brunch at Rioja on a Saturday. The food was great; each one of us was impressed with our 4 different selections, including one that was dairy and gluten free. The service was also first rate. We certainly intend to go back again and I would recommend Rioja at Larimer Street for a fine dining experience.
Our dinner at Rioja was outstanding! The service was great and the food was some of the best we've had in years!
It was our first time there for my wife’s birthday. The service, by everyone, was great. The drinks and food were very tasty and good portions. The atmosphere is fun and comfortable. Our waitress comped our dessert for my wife’s birthday. She did not need to do that but it was very much appreciated. Out waitress, we can’t remember her name, new her stuff. Also very personable and made us feel welcome. My only criticism was it was a bit warm in the restaurant.
the entire staff is friendly, solicitous, genuinely interested in helping. this was our second experience at Rioja, and the dishes were just as wonderful as the first time. we enjoyed the new items on the menu.
We’ve been to Rioja a few times. This time fell flat for us. Food was ok not great. Beans and lentils undercooked and seems like they try to do too much on the plate leaving the sides as not substantial enough to add flavor. It was good just not great. Wonder if she’s too busy with so many restaurants to ensure quality is on par. Service was good but can’t hear the servers as they speak too softly and the tables so close together there is nothing private or personal to your experience.
We tried many dishes and really enjoyed all of them. Great Spanish wine list too. Service and ambiance were just OK, including multiple occasions of bus boys dragging trash through the restaurant between tables. But the food made up for that.
Creative menu, very pleasant, knowledgeable and engaging staff. And mostly great food.
Definitely on our list when we return to Denver.
Reservation came off without a hitch. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and the right amount of attentive. Menu selections were appealing. I got the Rioja salad and lamb loin medium-rare. Both were delicious, as were the breads accompanying the meal. The desserts looked wonderful. No one else wanted dessert, and so I didn't partake. It's just as well - it spared me from the impossible task of having to choose among them.
Unquestionably one of the best restaurants in Denver - great location, terrific and beautifully presented food with lots of flavors and textures, excellent service.
We were looking for a place to enjoy a romantic dinner while visiting Denver (we live on the East coast). They started us out with choices from a bread basket filled with a variety of options which was a nice treat! My husband ordered the black garlic-squid ink bigoli and I ordered the appetizer size of the potato gnocchi and the artichoke tortellini. The Gnocchi's were AMAZING and by far my favorite. We also both indulged in dessert. My husband got the sorbet which was a little too tart and I got the rocky road which was beautifully presented and tasted like heaven! A real treat for sure! Enjoy!!!
Really nice spot with an interesting menu, portions are small, but good and wine list is exceptional. Have take two prospective clients there while I was visiting Denver and they were both impressed.
I was in Denver and met some friends here for dinner. Excellent choice!! The menu was well designed with a good range of food options. Person at our table had a question about wines and our server quickly offered to bring our tastes of two similar wines to see which one they preferred, which I thought was a nice gesture. We shared the "Picnic" meat/cheese plate and added a pasta dish as another appetizer. Both were first rate. I had the Serrano wrapped octopus and it was perfectly cooked. My guests also loved their entrees . We split an excellent chocolate peanut butter dessert and called it a night. Great meal, great evening
The service was exceptional...non-intrusive but always aware. Food was spectacular. What a find!
The Sunday Mediterranean brunch we had heard about was excellent.
