Rio City Café - Sacramento
Rio City Cafe is situated in beautiful historic Old Sacramento, overlooking some of the most prominent landmarks in Sacramento. The Sacramento River runs by our spacious outdoor patio, with spectacular views of the historic Tower Bridge and the Ziggurat (pyramid) building.
Rio City Cafe opened its doors in May of 1994. We display a comfortably casual setting, with indoor and outdoor seating. We can accommodate large parties and banquets, as well as private parties in our banquet room for special occasions. Or just simply enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine and the view in the outdoor cocktail area. During the colder months, enjoy the view from inside near our cozy fireplace.
Great service! Fabulous food!
Prime rib night! Tiffany was an excellent server. Watched the sunset and enjoyed a fine meal.
Our server wasn’t very personable and when there was an issue he just sent Assuming the Manager over to help. The Manager did correct the situation
Our server Whitney was excellent. She was efficient, courteous, accurate, and most of all a pleasant person to be around during our dining experience. She made it a fun evening.
Always a great place to eat right on the river.
Was amazing as always
Short ribs were delicious, but the prime rib was just okay. Drinks were good. The view on the patio was nice, but there were several TVs on, and the noise level was fairly high, so it had a sports bar-like feel. Overall our experience was good, not sure it was worth the price tag.
Just go for the location, not the food. It looks super good, but taste mediocre
It was underwhelming and the value of food for the money was disappointing.
We went for Valentines dinner and our server was so disenchanted with being there that she had no interaction with us except to take our order. She didn’t smile or laugh or listen to us in any way. This more pronounced by the fact that the food was ok. Not great, not memorable just ok. She could not make us more uncomfortable for being there if she tried any harder. Needless to say, we do not recommend it, and would never bother them with paying customers again.
As nice as it was to be right on the water and next to a fire on Valentine’s Day....we did not see our waiter often. Waited a while until we got our next drink. Not even a refresher in our waters. Also I ordered the sea bass and it was soo dry, I could cut it like chicken. There was pieces of crab/lobster; can not remember what exactly it was, but no good. Not a place I’d go back to.
Great Valentines menu and beautiful sunset to have dinner
My friend and I came here to celebrate our birthdays and Rio City didn't disappoint! Was seated on the deck as requested and received excellent service by our server. She suggested the house specials - don't miss the Sourdough Bread app! - and graciously opened our wine and took our photo when we asked.
The wait time was great and she was delightful - a great experience! Couldn't recommend more highly!
FIrst time at this Old Town Sacramento restaurant. Very pleased with experience. Lunch entrees enjoyed were the salmon BLT, Crab/Shrimp salad and the steak taco salad. Excellent flavors, seasonings, quantity and presentation. Service was professional and friendly. Sat on the covered patio. It was a late lunch so it was quiet. A large party behind us was just leaving so that helped a lot. I would go back in a hot second. And will recommend to anyone else who will listen. Don't miss this place!!
We were here for lunch got a nice table near the fireplace and window overlooking the river. Waiter very attentive didn’t rush or ignore us. The fried calamari was very good my partner said her prime rib dip was also good. I will go back.
Food and service were both excellent and enjoyed our meal
Good Food and good service. In the summer, dining on the patio would be treat.
A wonderful dining spot with great food, service, and a beautiful view of the Sacramento River and the Tower Bridge.
My bestie and had a nice dinner here before going to a show on Friday night. We sat on the back covered patio right on the river. We shared the coconut prawns and they were delicious. Next we decided to order two different things and share and I'm glad we did. She ordered the cheese tri colored tortellini with prawns and I ordered the Maple Bourbon Marinated Bistro Filet and they were amazing. Since this was a special night out, we decided to order dessert. She ordered the flourless chocolate cake and I had the vanilla bean creme brulee. We will definately be coming back. Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere.
I forget how consistent Rio City is. The service, view, ambience and delicious food add up to a great lunch experience. The fireplace was an added bonus. Every touch point was exceeded. It’s so Sacramento on the waterfront. I won’t forget Rio City the next time. I will be back!
Underwhelming. From the description I was expecting something to be moderate to upper scale. The decor is old. The menus are plastic. If the food was great it could pass on Diners Drive Ins and Dives but the food kinda sucked.
Rio City Cafe is always one of my favorite places to go.
This is one of our favorite venues in Sacramento. The menu is always interesting, the food is delicious, the service just right, the indoor dining has a warm feel about it and the outdoor dining overlooks the water, the Tower Bridge and the Pyramid Building. When the River Cats play you get the added bonus of fireworks around 9:30.
The food was great but the service was lacking a bit. The waitress did not come check on us after our meal was delivered until we were almost finished. Other than that, I have no complaints. Love looking over the river.
Food was mediocre and expect much more for the price paid. One dish was sea bass which was overcooked and lacked flavor as did the side. Service was slow to arrive and virtually nonexistent during the meal. Food was served promptly, though.
Restroom was absolutely disgusting. We opted to resort to outhouses outside which were much cleaner.
Unfortunate, as this used to be a great restaurant. Fortunately the views and location were a bright spot in the evening.
We had a great time at Rio City Cafe--it's a spot that we can count on for ambiance and good food when friends come in from out of town. Love sitting outside watching the river flow!
Consistantly good food, service, and ambiance. Have dined there for many years. One of the few quality restaurants now in Old Sac.
We were going to Sacramento to see family and I found this place on line. the food sounded amazing and it did not disappoint us. Dinner was amazing and we stopped before heading back to San diego for lunch. We will return over and over. Service was fabulous both times highly recommend this jewel.
Place was empty but pleasung
Rio City is in need of an overhaul. Beginning with the bathroom. Dingy & just not clean. It seems the restaurant needs a remodel & a fresh look. It’s been there so long, great location, it’s just a shame that the ambiance is just fair. The three of us had the Sea Bass, it was just ok. Will not return unless I read that a refresh has been made. (Have been there several times over the years) Unfortunately very disappointing to our party of 3 celebrating my mother’s birthday.
The parking garage was all full as was street parking. The website said valet was free which was not the case. We spent $12 on parking which was ridiculous, as was $17 for cheesy bread which was suggested to us without knowing the price. My husbands steak was not worth $42. All the way around it was not worth the money
We used to come here often and this was the first time we visited in a while. My dish was bland and greasy. I ordered the halibut and brussel sprouts on the advice of our waitstaff. I would not recommend this dish to anyone. My friends were happier with their orders but they were mainly salads.
Waitstaff was attentive.
We will probably visit again in the hopes that the bad meal was just a fluke.
Everything was great! Great server!
Food was excellent, our server was warm and treated us like family, there was absolutely nothing wrong with our visit and I will be back!
Outstanding food and service. We enjoyed being on the patio. Our server was very friendly and helpful.
My girlfriend and I went there on a Saturday night to celebrate our mutual birthdays. Very easy getting the reservation online and at the time requested. We were seated quickly and our server was quite nice and well informed of the menu items. She had the salmon & I had the Bistro Filet. Both were very tasty and we would both order them again. We brought our own bottle of wine and the $15 corkage fee was nominal. Overall, a very enjoyable experience.
Awesome Dining service was outstanding great place to dine
Brought my husband here for his birthday dinner. Dinner was great, service was awesome. I wish they would’ve done something for his birthday, but whatever. Will be back!!
Amazing as always
This place is great ! Highly recommend . The food, the drinks, the service, and the ambiance were great.
