Rio City Café - Sacramento
Rio City Cafe is situated in beautiful historic Old Sacramento, overlooking some of the most prominent landmarks in Sacramento. The Sacramento River runs by our spacious outdoor patio, with spectacular views of the historic Tower Bridge and the Ziggurat (pyramid) building.
Rio City Cafe opened its doors in May of 1994. We display a comfortably casual setting, with indoor and outdoor seating. We can accommodate large parties and banquets, as well as private parties in our banquet room for special occasions. Or just simply enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine and the view in the outdoor cocktail area. During the colder months, enjoy the view from inside near our cozy fireplace.

Great food and service
Great food and service. We had a wonderful evening!!
We had the clam chowder and the House salad. If you like bleu cheese, you will LOVE, the house salad. It was so good, it could have been my entree. We had the steak which was cooked to perfection. This restaurant has consistently maintained excellent service, great food and reasonable prices. Our waitress was attentive and delivered our next course seamlessly. This place is a winner.
The patio was totally enclosed so event though it was a beautiful sunny day there was no fresh air and the plastic tarps are not clear to see through.
Went online to make a reservation, had no trouble finding a time. Once we arrived (party of 2), we were promptly seated in an outside heated patio area overlooking the river. Our server was very friendly and attentive throughout the entire meal. The night manager was hospitable, learned our names, and personally delivered our entrees. All of the food was delicious, and you especially can't go wrong with the signature cheesy sourdough appetizer. Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. Throughout the entirety of the meal, it was a delightful dining experience.
This is my favorite Sacramento restaurant. The food is always quality and the service is outstanding.
We were visiting the Crocker Art Museum and walked over to the Rio cafe for lunch. The food was very good. My crab melt sandwich was excellent and my partner enjoyed very much his huevos rancheros.
I always order the Crab and Shrimp Louie, this was the first time I was terribly disappointed with it. The crab was bland and dry, definitely did not taste fresh like all other times. Fortunately the clam chowder was still great, but our server was not on top of her game, rarely saw her and dropped the ball on our drinks and specifications for them…
Good service late at night. The seabags was a little dry
The food here is always delicious and the servers are always great. The chicken was a little dry this time but I won't let that stop me returning. I love this place!
It was a great experience. Great food and great music. Awesome environment and great service. Wouldn’t have wanted to spend my NYE any other way :)
The cheese bread Uris always fantastic . The view from the patio is always nice
New Years Eve dinner surf and Turf excellent!!!
We enjoyed a lovely dinner on New Years Eve! Thankfully we made are reservations in advance. Loved the atmosphere, right on the river. Our waitress Daniella was attentive, informative and we enjoyed her sense of humor as well. I would highly recommend the Rio City Café for a special occasion dinner or lunch on the beautiful patio over looking the Sacramento River . We look forward to returning next time we visit Old Sacramento this June.
Overall everything was lovely. The only issues we had were: one of our drink glasses had lipstick on it and the wait for food to arrive was a bit long.
We were at Rio Cafe for lunch after visiting the Crocker Museum. Lunch & cocktails were very good, service however could have been a little more attentive & friendly.
Very nice place to stop and get a drink at the bar or have nice meal. Summertime and or during the day is nice to be on the water too.
It was very nice and comfortable. We were seated a bit late, but it was fine. Food was good and service good as well. Very friendly staff.
Rio City Cafe' in Old Sacramento is an excellent restaurant to dine at for any occasion. Yes it is located right next to the river.
The food at Rio City never disappoints. We chose it for a festive lunch, and a table by the fireplace was perfect! The cheesy sourdough loaf is a must, if you have enough people (three of us only made it 2/3 through). The fish and chips was delicious, but the desserts stole the show! Creme broulle was smooth, silky, with lovely flavor and a sugar crust that was substantial enough to contribute to the dish (too many are so thin you hardly notice them!). The chocolate decadence was chocolate heaven! Rich, smooth, deeply chocolately - but substantial. Two of us could not finish it! Service here has always been friendly, and we love sitting outside overlooking the river, when the weather is good.
Steak sandwich should be taken off the menu. $25 for fat and a lot of it and cheap shredded cheese not even melted on a pretty dry roll. Hardly any dressing on it.. Better value and food at a togos. With all the social distancing you cram all your guests on top of each other so we have to eat next to some loudmouth barefoot weirdo dressed like a homeless elf. The ingredients were so clearly low quality. Also. Make sure we see the people the just made our food hanging out front smoking as we leave. This is a kitchen nightmares episode that SHOULD happen.
As always great food and great service.
We enjoyed an excellent lunch and have the absolutely best service.
Very good food, generous portions. We arriver early, but they worked us in after a short wait. Good staff.
I have often enjoyed Rio City Cafe, but they failed this visit. Food is the main part of going out to eat, so when the food isn’t right, the rest of the outing suffers. When I order an eggs Benedict that comes with fried potatoes and fruit, I would never have thought it would all be on the same plate. Fruit is to be served cold, yet they “ran out of fruit cups” so they put the melons on the warm plate, which ruined the fruit and made the Benedict muffin soggy as well as the potatoes. I don’t want my fruit to taste like green peppers or my Eggs Benedict to taste like Watermelon. What really threw me was when I expressed my unhappiness with the meal, our server explained that she’s aware this isn’t good, said she’s told the manager and offered to comp my Mimosa. I didn’t spend money on food that was not satisfying and we barely picked at just to get a free Mimosa. The meal should have been remade or the bill comped, but it was just a “yeah, we know it’s not up to par, but oh well” attitude.
I took my niece and it was a great meal with an awesome view.
Atmosphere and food was great. Our server was amazing (our bottomless mimosas were never empty). The boats can be a bit loud but that is expected being on the water which is great to look out onto.
My husband and I went out for date night and tried something new. I was very happy and glad we found this gem! The food and service was 5 star and I felt like the prices were great as well!! It’s definitely a fine dining experience for a great price. I will definitely be recommending this place to my family and friends and coming back!
We always like the view of the river. Great service and nice place overall.
It's good food, expensive, but rgen all restaurants are high. I made this reservation back in September. When we arrived for our reservation, only 3 people, tgey sat us in the back which is a cover deck. It's cold plus there was a huge Christmas party in the same room as us only a screen separting them from diners very loud asked to move and they did move us back into main dining room by the fireplace. Much quiter.
We had a nice table near the fire place. However, we thought the tables were spaced too close to allow a safe feeling. The soup and sweet potato fries were tasty. The house salad greens were limp and the chicken sandwich rather dry. Lastly, the coffee not as great as they claimed. Our server did a good gob!
We had Sunday brunch. Huevos Rancheros featured very undercooked eggs with runny whites and cold rice. The potatoes served with the frittata were cold. The service was inattentive.
We have enjoyed many meals on the beautiful patio here, but I'm not sure I would want to go back
Requested a table in the patio for the Annual lighted boat parade and that was no problem. Our waiter Julio asked our names and was very friendly and checked on us often. Service was top notch and the food was outstanding in both taste and presentation. No skimpy servings either. My date was thrilled with the whole evening and said it was the best food she had ever had. She had the surf and turf and i ordered the Jambalaya. We had the cheese bread as an appetizer and it was incredible.
Always a great experience! Great service and food!
Great wait staff. Host went out of his way to seat us with friends we ran into there!!
First- be sure you ask to sit in Carrie's section . She is so cute and friendly , and a bright spot in the restaurant
The spot is good. Food pretty good , but do to Covid and winter the patio is all tented
It was my 2nd adventure there
It's worth a try if you're down town by the water before or after a River Cats game
Service was slow. My food chicken over cooked vegetables raw. Ordered a drink never came no water refills. Soon as food was delivered bill was put on table. Will never go back.
I love Rio City Cafe, but the service was not good. They gave our reservation away by accident, Then the server forgot to give us steak knives. The food was cold and the server left our cocktail glass on the table that we brought over from the bar for the duration of our meal and she left our salad plates on the table clearing them just as we were paying the bill. Probably some of the worst service we’ve ever had. It might be because the lack of people working. We will definitely go back because we love Rio City… but hopefully the service will be better. The bartender was amazing and we love the ambience.
Long time Rio City Cafe fan and it’s great to see that the staff and food are still top notch. First time thanksgiving meal at a restaurant everything was absolutely fabulous. Thank you, Rio City! 🙏🦃👍
The waitress we had was amazing! We were greeted immediately with a genuine smile and happy vibe. Meal was excellent from
