Richard’s is Boise’s newest fine-dining restaurant located in downtown Boise. A modern take on regionally inspired Italian/Mediterranean cuisine; Richard’s celebrates the integrity of ingredients, sourced locally when possible, and prepared simply to showcase the natural flavors of the products. Their service staff is recognized as one of the best in town, with many years of professional serving experience in the Boise area and beyond.
Chef Richard Langston has had a loyal following in Boise since taking the helm as chef at Amore Restaurant in 1993. From there he opened his own restaurants in Boise including Richard's Bakery, Richard's Across the Street, and Richard's Café Vicino. Chef Richard Langston was a 2014 semifinalist for the James Beard Award and a graduate of the California Culinary Academy.

Would recommend the bar - drinks were really good and bartender attentive and friendly.
First time to dine at Richards - was disappointed at the service. We had to ask the bus girl to get our waitress as we just sat and sat waiting to place our order. Our waitress would just disappear and it was not busy at all ( maybe 4 tables occupied). Once the food came - she did not come back and check on us. Food was over salted for our taste - but was presented nicely although portions were small
This was our third visit to the "new" Richards and will probably be our last. We had mixed experiences on our first two visits, so this was the tipping point. It's a nice and new location with great potential for an upscale experience, but it's a bit boring. There's just no pulse! No music, no life in the bar area, pretty sedate. One thing that really bothers me at a "finer" restaurant is when a runner delivers your meal without any presentation - just drops it off and off he goes. So there was a great discrepancy between what our expectation was of what we would get compared to what was described on the menu. Starting with the Beet salad? It was mainly wilted "spring mix" that I'm so tired of getting at the local Winco, with a few dices of what tasted like canned beets, some crumbles of feta and a couple of walnut pieces. My duck was served on top of a disproportionately large and overspiced (cumin?) garbanzo patty that would have sufficed as a meal by itself - if you're a vegan...! My wife's pappardelle was just OK - nothing to brag about. And then how about maybe having the chef or maitre'd stop by the table and talk food with us - has never happened in the three times we've been there. Much better depth of service at Barbacoa or Chandlers, both of which "talk up" their food and are genuinely interested in your experience (plus the waiters actually know how the dishes are prepared...). Sorry, we give our dining experience a C- overall...
The food was good, along with the service. The drink prices were pretty high but not surprising for a restaurant that is linked to a hotel. However since our group only purchased beer and wine during our dinner, it was a little disappointing that the cost was over twice as much as grabbing a drink at the White Dog brewery across the street which would have had a larger selection to choose from. But nice ambiance for getting a group together to take in the theater or other professional stage performance.
Though the service was good and the atmosphere nice, the food was really disappointing. I had Paella which was over cooked and the Halibut in it actually tasted as if it had gone bad. I was fearful to eat the pieces of halibut. My husband had the Prosciutto wrapped Chicken which had fair flavor but it was too over cooked to truly enjoy. In general the menu seems over priced for the quality. On another note, I do sincerely appreciate the labeling of and attention to gluten free options. That and the nice wine list may be the things that bring us back to give Richard’s one last chance.
We love Richards! We have never had anything be less than perfect before the last visit. This time, one of our party did not get their food exactly as it was ordered and one of our party got Sturgeon that was somewhat "fishy" smelling and tasting. I do not know if it was a service failure or the kitchen who did not get the order right. Obviously it was the kitchen that served the fish. We will go back, just sad to have perfection tainted!
Halibut and duck were moist and tender which was very good, done just right. These two dishes can easily be overdone in a restaurant. Well prepared dishes, but lacking some ingredient to make them truly outstanding. Service was impeccable! Focaccia bread served before dinner had excellent taste and texture.
We all enjoy the main course when we have lunch at Richard's, but the undeniable draw for us to return over and over is the exquisite dessert menu. There are more gluten-free options for dessert than any restaurant I've visited in Boise, and each of them is incredibly delicious, divine, and beautifully presented. My friends who can enjoy gluten speak just as highly of the other dessert options.
Breakfast for 4 people was $80 with one shared appetizer and 4 coffees. The price would seem to match the atmosphere but there were some aspects of our breakfast with old friends that detracted from the value. We had three traditional breakfasts of Egg's, toast, country potatoes and coffee. (My wife opted for a specialty breakfast sandwich which she truly enjoyed.) Here is what disappointed me: 1. We have a Britta filtered water jug at home. Also. we drink a lot of bottled water because we travel so often. Maybe that makes us sensitive to poor tasting water. What we got in our water cups (all four of them) was horrible tasting to the point that none of took more than the first sip. I am assuming that the water source was the same for the coffee because we could taste the same foul tasting water through the coffee. Our breakfast potatoes were room temperature. The place was full, so we assumed there was a pan of breakfast potatoes in the back that were just sitting on the counter. Two of us ordered baguette toast rather than traditional white, wheat, or sour dough toast - the three small slices were not enough to have a small bite of toast with each bite of egg. On the bright side, our server was happy to bring us more baguette toast free of charge but the 15 minute wait meant that our eggs were now as cold as our country potatoes. Our waitress never returned to check on us after she delivered our meals so we couldn't order alternative drinks to replace our water and coffees. The good: the peppered bacon was thick and tasty and cooked to our individual specifications. The atmosphere was warm, cozy and classy. Our bruschetta appetizer was tasty and came quickly. The country potatoes, although not hot, were tasty and attractive. I am sure we will Richards again. I think we will try to bring our own water and coffee though.
The menu is very small with few offerings. Some people in our party had difficulty selecting an entree as there were few at dinner time. Not enough variety. Chicken dish offered was dark meat..white meat was not an option. One diner in party ordered shrimp linguini and received 2 shrimp on his plate. Desserts were few. One member in our party disliked nuts and cheesecake. There was no option for him. Even the gelato offered was cheese flavor. Nuts were on many desserts. Better options would have been nice for picky eaters.
Dinner at Richard's is always such a pleasure! Last weekend we were celebrating a special birthday with my Mom and I must say that everything was exceptionally exceptional! Everything was perfectly and beautifully prepared (thanks Kevin and crew!) and Justine went above and beyond to make sure our evening was wonderful. We usually don't order dessert but splurged this evening on the new lemon tart (out of this world with the gold spun sugar on it!) and the delicious and perfectly textured hazelnut gelato. My Mom was getting full and when I suggested she take the rest of the lemon tart to go she refused saying that she was eating every bite then and there. Thanks Richard and staff for another wonderful evening!
The food at Richard's is ALWAY's exceptional. The new restaurant is appealing and more centrally located with its own parking lot. The staff is great and knowledgeable about the food. Which I find handy since I often blindly order one of the specials. Because they NEVER fail to be amazing. If you haven't been here put it at the top of your list of Boise restaurants.
Outstanding experience with delicious food, fine wine (we actually brought our own) and conversation that we could actually hear. Justine was our superb waitperson so the evening was remarkable and every request was met beautifully. We love our urban living and neighborhood gem.
We are regular customers of Richard's and will continue to eat at this restaurant. However, this last evening was off from both a food and service standpoint. Food was more over cooked and the service was slower than usual. But we will assume it was just a bad night and not an overall assessment of the restaurant.
