Rice N Bean - Hell's Kitchen
Our restaurant is the only place that you can find all flavors from every state of Brazil. From the North we have a special Fish Stew known as "Moqueca de Peixe" to the South a special Grilled Steak, and much much more.
Don't skip the Feijoada, Brazil's national dish. It's a casserole of black beans with pork loin, sausage, bacon, spare ribs, and beef.
The place itself is cozy.

Superb pork dish (chef’s special) The only reason I went. Lives up to the rep. Lots of pork, sausage and beans. Very good service. Very small place. Allowed me to get to know my neighboring diners well👍🏼
Food was okay, they burned our Pao de Queso’s. They were a little too toasty if you know what I mean. My daughter loved her dish, but overall it was just okay. I prob won’t return... the servers were very nice and that was great! Yucca fries were delish , but my shrimp stroganoff and my husbands Picanha steak were “just okay.”
The food was delicious and the portions were plentiful. Our host was very pleasant, attentive and very engaging. She made our night a most special one!
Rice and Beans is what Hell's Kitchen used to be--a simple, tiny, local place for a cuisine you don't get to have that often with wonderful service and very good food.
Sadly our visit was most disappointing. The wild shrimp risotto was awful- frozen veges-fishy strong smelling ? frozen shrimp and cold rice??? The soups were good though a bit salty. Quite the opposite from our prior visits.
Perfect spot for pre theater dinner. Steak was delicious and who know collard greens were soooo good. Prices reasonable!
Always happy to return to this great little place!
Excellent food and very good service. First time there but will definitely go back.
This is my absolute favorite Brazilian restaurant in NYC. This small establishment has been my go to for decades. I lived in Brazil for a time and this is the closest to an authentic “home cooked” feeling. Whenever I eat here I am transported right back to my temporary home!
The pão de queijo and coxinha are my favorite small bites. The Stroganoff (Chicken, Beef, Vegetarian, Shrimp) is divine. Like Feijoada? Theirs is spectacular. The brigadeiros are the best! The staff is always helpful and friendly. I absolutely love this place!
We and my friends went there at 7pm yesterday, Dec/15 and was closed by commissioner and NOBODY sent me any msg to notice me about it. Never more in my life I’ll be there in this restaurant again. After that restaurant change the owner, became a totally nightmare. I definitely DON’T RECOMMEND this restaurant.
Hello Monica, Monica, We called OpenTable and advised them that we have a major plumbing issue and therefore cannot serve our patrons. We thought OT will cancel all book reservations and for that we sincerely apologize. It is of utmost chaos to close at the busiest time of the year and if we neglected to inform you please let us be given a chance to show you that this is an isolated incident and therefore does not warrant a one star review. Have a wonderful holiday and a healthy New Year!
Generous portions; we made dinner from one soup and one main course (plus a couple of caipirinhas).
Tiny restaurant, fabulous food, very nice and friendly staff. Because it’s so small, tables are very crowded together and noise level is high. But the food and caparinhas are well worth the noise. Have been going here and bringing friends whenever we’re in the neighborhood. Every has loved it.
Food was delicious. Especially the skirt steak. The restaurant is very small and basic, but clean. Perfect for a pre theater meal on a cold night
Hello Lorpt, Thank you for coming to Rice N Beans! A restaurant being small and basic but clean and perfect for a pre-theater meal on a cold night does not warrant a 2 star rating. We strive so hard to offer the best food and service and this is the reason why RNB has been around since 1991. We hope that you will be more considerate next time you give us the rating we deserve. Happy Holidays!
Good neighborhood spot
Great neighborhood place.
Superb food. Once staff. Great experience
Excellent food. I always appreciate it when a server tells you that a dish is enough to share. Will be back for sure.
Very Brazilian food & amazing caipirinha. Great service, very kind staff.
Place is very small and the restroom is inside the kitchen, so that’s a little weird.
Not a fancy place but definitely cozy and with good food.
Simply the best Brazilian place in the neighborhood. Chef Airton is incredible, cooking up the most authentic Brazilian food NYC has to offer. The wait staff too is truly awesome. 5 stars!
In response to NYCGourmand visit on November 2, 2019: We are a restaurant in business for 30 years and have always been in compliance with NYC Health Department. We have the obligation to stay within the NYC Health Departments regulations. We cannot under any circumstances break these regulations to satisfy any request that do not fall under these regulations. Our team is trained and equipped under the NYC Health Department to uphold these rules. Unfortunately this customer came into our restaurant asking for a medium rare pork chop. Our waiter came into the kitchen asking for the guest request. The waiter was told that we cannot cook pork at this temperature. The guest was unsatisfied with this response and was very upset. When he saw the chef he was very rude due to the fact that his request was not met. We explained that pork cannot be cooked at his requested temperature. He expressed to our waiter that he has eaten pork chops at this temperature in other restaurants, implying that the other restaurants were not, unfortunately, compliant to such regulations imposed by the NYC Health Department. This type of meat cannot be prepared under temperature as it might cause Trichinella Spiralis, causing gastroenteritis, fever, swelling of the eyes, muscular pain, chills and difficulty to breath. We are continuing our efforts to keep our guest safe. Unfortunately this guest is not accustomed to going to restaurants who keep the same standards.
Sincerely,
Chef Eriton
The food was great and the staff is very efficient and nice. The only thing that would make me put a 5 stars would have been if the music was brasilian instead of electro or pop. It would have made the difference in my opinion.
Many items on the menu are delicious. But, seriously, the cooks in the kitchen have to learn (or else eat what they cook to see what they're serving) how to properly broil and serve pork chops. It's possible to prepare them without ruining them; mine were served as tough as shoe leather. There was no point in complaining because the damage was done and it was proof that they either are unable or unwilling to broil pork so that it is juicy and tender. I had asked for "medium" which seemed to take the gentleman taking our order by surprise; again, the only way around this problem is to see and learn how other restaurants are serving pork chops all over the city and to sample how they are purposely overcooking them at Rice'n'Beans.
Excellent homemade authentic dishes. Very friendly and accommodating staff.
Great service and food! Very small venue, but just make a reservation and you’ll be fine. The food is very good and is a generous portion.
Great little place. We happened to be there during happy hour. 4 delicious drinks were $20 total in nyc. Not bad. The appetizers were great too. We got the sampler. Each one was better than the next. We look forward to going back!
Good food with great prices
I totally fell in love with this place! When we arrived I was surprised by the size (I bet it seats less than 40) so I was very glad that we made a reservation and didn't just show up! The staff could not have been more welcoming and kind. Drinks and food all delicious. Didn't feel rushed but did feel attended to. The location was good for us (we were seeing a show dinner). I will most definitely come back!!
Small place, but great food and service. The feijoada was incredible.
My absolute favorite place near the Theater District. And one of my favorites in NYC.
House speciality, Feijoada was particularly good !!
Amazing!!!
Food was excellent. Our server, Joe, went above and beyond to ensure that we had an amazing dining experience. We will definitely return!
Excelent one more time....I would came back there several times If my vaccation was not over.....
Always great food, very good service
I can not explain how excelent was this experience. The food was awesome, tasteful and If you eat a lot, you are in the right place. I will came back a lot of times.
The only regret was that I have not discovered this restaurant before....
We were finishing up dinner when the July 13 blackout occurred (7:45PM). The staff handled the abrupt loss of all power very calmly despite the fact that a credit card transaction would no longer be an option to pay for dinner (I had no cash)! The staff worked with myself and my family to successfully transition from credit card to an online money transfer app to facilitate payment for a great meal. The restaurant got paid, we got fed (luckily in the nick of time), and still had the evening's remaining daylight to experience the blackout as people spilled out onto the sidewalks and gridlocked streets to witness NYC history!
Loved the food, loved the friendly and attentive service
Always a very good place to eat, to talk, to make a hangout. Thanks again for this place.
Amazing atmosphere. Friendly and graciuos service. Will definitely be back. (Gregg)
The server was excellent...he help us out with places to party and it was fun.(Dwight)
This was my first time eating Brazilian food and it was FANTASTIC! Our servers were incredible, offering us advice on cocktails and making sure we were enjoying everything. This place is super tiny, so definitely make a reservation, and don’t judge it by how it looks on the outside. The food and drinks were phenomenal.
