Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."
Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.
PASTA E FAGIOLI ALLA TOSCANA
pasta and cannellini bean soup
GNOCCHI ALLA BAVA
speck prosciutto fontina, pink sauce
FRIED ZUCCHINI BLOSSOMS
filled with speck prosciutto & fontina
The menu has changed a bit, but the biggest problem is the lack of valet. There is no parking in this area at all, so if you have to come by car don't go!!
The food was fantastic and the staff was so warm and welcoming.
The food at Riccardo's is always really good, the service as well. We've been "spoiled" during the pandemic by not having to be subjected to loud dining experiences where we have to shout to communicate. I'm going to miss that. They had tinny music playing in the background which was, frankly, annoying. Luckily, they did turn it down on request. Do we really need background music in restaurants? We certainly don't need bad background music. Go for the food. You will NOT be disappointed. We had the tortalone with ricotta and spinach. We're definitely going to have them next time. Their 3 colored salad (green--arugala, white-endive and red-not sure, either cabbage or red endive for Italian flag) with the broiled goat cheese on top is REALLY good.
Riccardo’s has never disappointed. Consistently delicious food and the most friendly wait staff. This time we had the air cured beef carpaccio, black truffle risotto, Asiago stuffed gnocchi, and the veal chop Emiliana. Pastas are homemade and always cooked to perfection. Price are extremely reasonable for the city and portions are generous. This continues to be my top pick for Italian food in Chicago. High quality with a neighborhood vibe - nothing pretentious here. Would highly recommend.
Theo was wonderful and our meal was great as usual!
Always great dinner!
Outstanding and authentic Italian food and superb wine.
Our waiter was wonderful. He went out of his way to get a taxi for us and stayed with us until it showed up! The Oslo bucolic was perfect. I couldn’t give 5 stars because the wine list is rather limited
Excellent halibut and lasagna!
Our food was very good. We shared a Timbale which was outstanding and a Caprese which was good but not great. Both my wife and I got pasta from their daily specials. My wife’s tortelloni was delicious and my puttanesca was better. Great waiter and attentive service.
One of very few places in Chicago where one can find authentic Italian food prepared to perfection. The service was impeccable and we had a very nice time enjoying Branzino and lobster ravioli. Absolutely recommended!
Sorry to be negative, but the food was only so-so, and the kitchen and service were tremendously disorganized. One of us did not receive their main dish until all the rest of the table had finished with dinner. When the bill came, we had to send it back because they had forgotten to charge us for the wine. Could be COIVD restart blues. But so far as this dinner went, it was a bust.
Excellent food and accommodating staff. Great neighborhood place.
This is a true neighborhood gem that never disappoints. From the greeting at the door to the excellent service, I enjoy coming here so much. The food is outstanding and the ambience creates a space in which to simply enjoy the company of dear friends. I cannot recommend Riccardo Trattoria enough.
Always delightful to celebrate Mother's Day with RIccardo, and to be back in this fabulous restaurant. It continues to be the best and most authentic Italian restaurant in Chicago. Mixed seafood grill was outstanding, as were the stuffed zucchini flowers.
We dined here for Mother's Day. The food was superb as was the service. Highly recommend!
Ricardo Trattoria is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant with incredible food and a great vibe. We’ve dined here many times and are never disappointed. We will be back!
Our first time at Riccardo Trattoria. Everything was wonderful. This is just a great restaurant.
Simply the best classic Italian food in Chicago -- when considered on a price/value basis.
Great to be back.
What a wonderful restaurant. Authentic, delisous and intimate.
High quality, innovative Italian. Outstanding service. Great ambiance.
Excellent food, wine list, and service!
I'll be back.
Great food, great friendly service from Paco and Christian.
No complaints at all.
Farewell to Chicago
A wonderful place to share a delicious meal with friends.
the food was divine. the help was great. the tiramisu they brought my daughter because it was her birthday was a wonderful gesture on the part of the restaurant and was delicious.
one of my favorite places to eat.
As always, great food, service and experience
Attentive staff and very tasty food! Loved the ambiance
I would highly recommend Riccardo Trattoria to anyone! Having eaten at several outstanding Trattorias in Italy, this restaurant felt very authentic in every way -- ambiance, style and quality of food, wine, etc. And the service was excellent!
Meeting a possible new friend. Excellent food, polite attentive service. Reminded me of my favorite trattoria on Turino. I will be back. And while no valet service they offered to move one of their cars so I could park in front of the restaurant.
This was a great dinner at a great place. Our server, Brenda, was amazing. The food is always exceptional. This was my first birthday dinner out since the pandemic began and it was really great being there. Please enjoy this amazing place!
The menu and food were excellent. Warm hospitality, we had a great experience there!
I went to Ricardo Trattoria for my birthday and I loved it. The service was really great, the food was yummy. We ordered the meatballs as an appetizer, the lobster ravioli and bucatini carbonara. The wine selections are also great. We didn't feel rushed and they brought out panna cotta with a candle and everyone in the restaurant sang Happy Birthday, which was sweet! And the panna cotta was delicious, it was a great way to end my birthday dinner. I highly recommend it and I will be going back again.
The food quality and prep is excellent at Riccardo's. I feel like I'm eating in Italy, not an American restaurant trying to be Italian. Yet, their pricing is competitive for the quality of the food they serve.
Always exceeds my expectations. Best osso bucco in the city....though you can’t go wrong with absolutely anything on the extensive menu. We’ve been dining here for years and I can’t say enough about the friendly and spot-on service. Every single person who works here gives such care to the craft of hospitality that you just might feel as though you’re dining with family. This is our go-to for celebrations as well as relaxed nights out. If I could leave 100 stars, I would!
I first came to Riccardo's more than half a decade ago, and I've been a loyal customer ever since. The food is always exceptional, the service exemplary, and according to a friend who spent the first two decades of his life in Milan....the best authentic Italian in Chicago.
Take my word for it, or take his...do yourself a favor and enjoy a meal here. Thank me later.
This is the definition of a neighborhood gem. Small and cozy dining room with attentive and knowledgeable staff serving the best homemade pasta, from wild boar ragu pappardelle to lobster ravioli to chicken saltimbocca. A lovely dinner.
Please fix the music. The selection and the speakers need a change. Stevie wonder and Motown??? In elegant Italian atmosphere?
The restaurant week menu provided many options to choose from compare to other menus in Chicago.
Great restaurant week menu! No idea why this isn’t on the ‘best of’ lists. Looked to be essentially their regular menu opened up for 3 courses - great selection, not the small tastes offered by others. Food and service could not have been better. The tuna tartare and Branzino were perfect - did our best to be good and not opt for the very tempting pasta options. Thanks to Nino, Brenda and Paco for such a great evening! Look forward to coming back.
