About Riccardo Trattoria
Riccardo started his career at a very young age in Milan's prestigious "GIRARROSTO" family owned. Then, in 1982 he moved to the United States and he opened the famous Sonny Bono's in Los Angeles. In 1987 he started to work with his cousin Roberto Ruggeri (owner of Bice's Venture), with him he opened Bice New York, Los Angeles and many others around the world.
Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."
Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.

Riccardo Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
Food was very good, probably not the very best in Chicago like some others have said. Complimentary appetizer was very good. We also had shrimp/calamari app which was also excellent. They didn’t have a kids menu but made some fettuccine Alfredo for my kids. There were specials but the server didn’t highlight them to the whole table. There were 6 of us and he only gave my wife some recommendations. A couple in my
Party enjoyed the ricotta ravioli but didn’t love it. I had the fettuccine bolognese. It was good but a little overly meaty in the flavor. Not as much balance between the meat and tomato as I would like. Overall, very good but we’ve definitely had better.
We have been going to Trattoria Riccardo since they opened and have never been disappointed. We live close by and always make it our “go to” place . The ambience, graceful and friendly service and of course, the food is extraordinary. The extensive and authentic Northern Italian menu is wonderful! Be sure to make reservations well in advance as it is always well attended. You’ll be happy you made the choice!
This was the best Italian in the city but the day we went was unfortunate. I get eating mid-week isn’t as important to a restaurant as a weekend night but the food was old. My steak seemed old, there was a hair in one of our dishes, and the dessert was no better than a store bought apple pie. Big disappointment.
Definitely a local gem. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing. We had two appetizers, which we shared. We enjoyed CARPACCIO DI MANZO to start our meal and then had fried zucchini flowers which were stuffed with cheese. (I do not remember the name of the dish). I would usually not have ordered it but my AARP husband was familiar with it. It was a delicious surprise. We would definitely order it again. For our main course we had MAIALINO AL MADERA CON RISO PARMA....still dreaming of that rich Madeira sauce and perfectly cooked pork medallions paired with fantastic risotto. Dessert was also top shelf. The tiramisu was light and yet rich at the same time. I can't wait to go back when visiting Chicago again.
This restaurant was recommended by a local friend - we were visiting from New Orleans. I have been to Chicago many times and visited most of the "must do" restaurants - Chicago was always one of my preferred food towns - this is one we will be returning to again at the soonest opportunity. The food was unpretentious and exquisite - the service, kind and attentive. A really delightful experience, and surprisingly reasonably priced as well. We will be back. I wish I could have tried more things as everything we did order was perfect.
Riccardo Trattoria never fails to deliver. No one in our party left much on our plates and not because portions are small. Still had to leave room for the panna cotta - so simple but so creamy and flavorful. Very attentive, accommodating and friendly service.
