Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."
Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.
PASTA E FAGIOLI ALLA TOSCANA
pasta and cannellini bean soup
FRIED ZUCCHINI BLOSSOMS
stuffed with fontina cheese & speck
ASIAGO STUFFED GNOCCHI
butter parmesan & truffle sauce
The dishes and service were to an exceptional standard.
Finally we found a great little Italian place in Chicago. After moving from NYC and living downtown we thought everything was a chain here. Not this place !!! Real home cooked authentic Italian. Yum.
Riccardo's is my go-to for: authentic Italian, a neighborhood gem, amazing food, excellent service and a small quaint restaurant. I recommend the fried calamari and shrimp for an app, along with any of the salads. Pasta is fresh made and sauces are incredibly rich in flavor- try the papperdalle with short rin ragu. On our most recent outing, we took 2 out of towners there and all enjoyed the food and wine - another consistent meal at Riccardos.
Overall it was a good experience. The food was quite good but not outstanding, as it was promoted. Our server was really friendly and very professional, however, I am thinking that because of lack of personnel, it took a long time for him to get to us, and we had to wait a while; however, once we finally placed a food order, it was delivered quickly.
I would go one more time. I do want to try other items.
Food and service were fabulous. Only complaint is that the lighting was a little bright for an intimate dinner. Will be back soon.
Just Always the best!!!
Quick and attentive service. Food was very good, the carpaccio was outstanding.
The best Italian food in the city! Service is fantastic. There isn’t anything better. The daily specials to the regular menu items you can’t go wrong. The pink sauce on anything is the ticket. The homemade gnocchi (see pic) sooo good.
Always great tasting, ample portions, authentic and welcoming. Excellent service too.
Amazing food and server!!
Great service and food.
Always an amazing experience. Best Italian food in Chicago. Staff makes you feel very taken care of. Food never disappoints. This place is wonderful.
Delicious menu options, seasonal specials, incredible service.
The food was outstanding and the service was perfect!
Fantastic food and ambience. As a return guest the service, was for the first time, a bit disappointing. The addition of ten outside tables clearly impacted the ability of the staff to deliver the usual five star experience.
But then again the food is worth a bit of frustration.
All of us enjoyed your fried calamari, fettucine bolognese, flat iron steak and wine! Grazie mille!
Pork chops were delicious. The pinor noir I ordered was not good, it was cheap, but just not good and I regretted ordering it. I had the octopus and it was somewhat bland and dry/burnt on the edges. I also had the carbonara, which I enjoyed. Romana salad was nice, and had anchovies in it, I liked it. I also got burrata cheese and was underwhelmed. Overall, I'd give the food at B.
I got uncomfortable in the restaurant. I'm a tall guy and found there wasn't enough space between tables. And as I got more full, I found it was hot and stuffy in there - the AC could've been turned down a few degrees for sure.
Excellent choice. Visiting from outside state. Didn’t know what to expect. It was great. Food was delicious and served quickly. Highly recommend.
Excelente comida, excelente servicio y excelente atención!!
As always the food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Love this place and cannot recommend it enough.
Best Italian food in the city! Service and staff are fantastic….
Riccardo's is consistent in all ways. The staff is great and the food divine. They knock themselves out to give you a great evening out. The food comes out pipping hot and the menu is extensive. Please go - you will love it!
The server was good. The ravioli was undercooked but the veal was delicious.
Great spot for a date night!!! The half portions were a perfect size. Definitely recommend and would go back!
This place! Authentic, warm, delicious vibes. The food is always perfect. The service is attentive and just amazing. Just a gem.
Low key, quaint. Mushroom paperdelle One of the best Italian dishes I’ve ever had.
Everything about our dining experience was excellent. Our Waiter Nino was fabulous and the food was some of the best ever
Our experience was impacted by a large noisy party next to us, but even besides that the food and presentation was not worth our time and money. Pasta was too hard and nothing special. Appetizers were just ok. They didn't offer oil for the bread. I had to ask for it and was given a tiny plastic container. Just expected more based on reviews and pictures online.
My favorite restaurant in the city
I’ve missed their food!
So good!! One of my absolute favorites!!
Food was worth the traffic into the city. Staff treated us like honored guests. Definitely coming back!!!
The pasta here is fantastic. Mussels were average. The Osso Bucco, tasted nice, but for $38, the portion was so small. Came with plain risotto. I think we could have thrown some mushrooms in there. Wonderful seafood pasta though.
Not enough social distancing and tables were a little too close together. On the other hand, the staff were terrific and the food fabulous, as always.
Food and service was amazing! A great spot for a warm and comforting Italian meal!
This is, in my opinion, the absolute best Italian restaurant in Chicago. From a true carbonara to polpette with porcini on saffron risotto to everything you’d ever dream of….this family spot is the real deal. I’ve never had anything less than a stellar experience, here. I love this family owned spot for both special occasions, as well as for a quick (amazing) bite after work. The service is so warm and welcoming…you’ll know you’re in great hands!
The food here is always outstanding, and tonight was no exception. Pastas, seafood, meat dishes were all great. Branzino and osso bucco were highlights. Some of the best mussels I have ever had. One of our party had some dietary restrictions that the kitchen gladly accommodated. Terrific, attentive service as well. My favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago.
Excellent Italian restaurant. Best rice balls ever and their sauce is tasty. definitely need reservations
Wonderful food and service. Nino's service was amazing from suggestions for drink and food to even providing a little extra bread to take greater advantage of the wonderful sauces... Highly recommend.
