Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."
Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.
Always the best experience.
Excellent as always
Excellent variety. Each dish prepared as requested. Friendly, knowledgeable server.
We found the food to be bland, and unenjoyable. We tried a few dishes and none of them stood out. Typically I will take left overs with me, but we disliked it so much we couldn’t see eating this food again.
As always, the food was delicious, the service extraordinary and the atmosphere warm and inviting.
Cute place, a Lincoln Park classic. Solid Italian food, good wine list.
Had a piece of plastic in my desert. At first the restaurant was mot going to even make the desert
no charge, but after speaking to the manager
the desert was made no charge. At most other
restaurants the whole meal would have been no charge. Instead the manager explained that the desert came in a plastic container and when the
item was served from the container the server must
have gotten some of the plastic. Not really concerned
where the plastic came from. The whole experience
made for a bad evening. Would not go back and would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Great service by an excellent waiter! Food was good, but not up to par w previous experiences
Food at Ricardo’s is always good. The osso buco is a mainstay and did not disappoint. I tried the Tiramasu for the first time and I realized that I have been missing out, it was one of the best I have had. Very friendly wait staff and they were very nice to the kids that were at our table.
Over the top food. The best Italian in Chicago. The menu had a great selection of items in it and everything we picked was spot on. Nice wine selection as well.
Excellent food - I had the pappardelle with duck ragu, and my husband had the pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon with pasta. Server lacked personality, however, and just did his business with little/no interaction when we tried to engage him. Place was empty when we arrived for our 5pm reservation but by the time we left the restaurant was full. Value was good for us because we were able to use opentable rewards.
Very nice spot for a quality meal in a lively setting!
Very disappointing. It was my husband’s birthday and they were very accommodating to get us and our three teens a table on a busy night. 5 of us were squeezed into a small table. We all ordered pasta and it was disappointing. Of the 4 items ordered, only one tasted great. The service was very professional but the server could see we were not really enjoying the food. We should have gone to the Riccardi across the street maybe it would have been a better experience. My guess is the non pasta dishes may be less risky. We just were not impressed.
Great neighborhood Italian restaurant. Great service. It’s what dining experience should be.
Outstanding food and service, will visit again soon!
Riccardo Trattoria always provides a wonderful dining experience. The service is outstanding and the food is exceptional.
We had a great waiter who helped us choose our meal. The squash blossom stuffed with mozzarella and prosciutto was a wonderful appetizer. I also enjoyed the parpadelle pasta with a beef ragu. All in all I would guess most everything is really good.
Excellent food and service. Cozy atmosphere. Can’t wait to visit again.
Absolutely delicious food! Exceptional, attentive service that wasn’t intrusive! Lovely Tuscan atmosphere. A wonderful dining experience! Delightful!
It was great. It was very extra good. It was super special.
We brought some friends here recently and they were amazed how excellent everything was!
The service was excellent over the entire meal. They paid attention to all 6 of us in our party and attended to every detail. The food was outstanding and the management and wait staff added to the incredible dining experience. I would definitely recommend and return again.
Delicious as always! Thank you!
A little noisy in the beginning because we arrived at “rush hour”. Better later when some customers had left. Excellent food and very friendly service. A real pleasure for Europeans like us to find a restaurant that focuses on quality and not only on quantity... Also very nice wine list.
In many ways, this is a typical Italian "red sauce joint," only the food quality is exceptional and the vast menu offers many options. The ambience is right out of the Godfather... and the service is old world, yet welcoming and professional. Looking forward to our next visit...
As always - fantastic.
We heard so many good things about Riccardo Trattoria. However, we were less than impressed. The food was good, but nothing outstanding. I had the Saltimbocca and it was good, but came out with two potato wedges. Odd plating and disappointing for the money. There were six of us at dinner and nobody in the group thought there food was more than average. Service was okay, but not very attentive.
Was recommended by colleague but would not go back.
Was looking forward to being really good but was OK at best.
Great service and food.... just a bit pricy and definitely in need of an after 8:30 res for noise all good!
Amazing on every level. Can’t wait to go back. Food was so good - we cant wait to go back. One of the best restaurants we’ve ever been to in the world. From start to finish the food was amazing.
Excellent Italian cuisine in a lovely warm colored room. Excellent wine list, daily specials that include pastas, salads, perfectly prepared fish and seafood and meats are generally served with grace and kindness. At our last visit, I was disappointed by the surliness of our wait person— definitely changed the quality of our dining experience— but this was the only time I felt the service was lacking in warmth and good humor. We’ll certainly return for the best Italian food in Chicago!
Outstanding, as usual. Has now become another friend’s favorite Chicago restaurant. Fried zucchini blossoms were a real treat.
Riccardo Trattoria is the best kind of Italian restaurant-intimate, friendly, bustling, and delicious, with fantastic, friendly service! The burrata, fried squash, bolognese, and rigatoni were some of the best I've ever had! Highly recommend!
This was our first visit to Riccardo Trattoria and it was nothing short of fantastic! I had some family come into town and they had requested authentic Italian. I had heard good things about Riccardo Trattoria, so decided to give it a whirl. The place was just great. Nice, quaint space. We had a dinner reservation at 6pm on a Saturday and were seated promptly. I will warn folks, MAKE A RESERVATION and come early. When we left, there were easily 20 people outside waiting for a table.
The food was excellent, the service was wonderful, and they were so accommodating. I couldn't decide between two entrees, so they made me half orders of each. What a nice touch! Overall, we were super impressed and can't wait to visit again!
The trattoria is a local gem in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. We enjoyed and ate everything we ordered, our plates were clean. Great Italian feel!
We come from out of town every year and it is our first restaurant of choice they are welcoming and the food is always the absolute best service extraordinarily wonderful they deserve every award that they have received and one reason we keep coming back to Chicago was to visit Ricardo Trattoria
Food was excellent and we were especially impressed with the extensive menu options. One could eat here frequently and not eat the same thing. Prices were very fair. A great neighborhood place.
Nice neighborhood feel. Casual dining. Food was excellent. It was quite tasty that not once did I have to ask for extra parmigiana which is what usually happens when I go to Italian restaurants
For the first time some of the flavor and texture was missing. My thought was the chef must be on vacation because I have been many times and have never be disappointed. Based on that I am undeterred and look forward to my next visit.
Great food, great service. A must go to place. Small and Quaint.
