Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."
Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.
What Insiders Are Saying
Classy without being overly pretentious. Riccardo Trattoria is one of our favorite Italian restaurants around.
The service was excellent over the entire meal. They paid attention to all 6 of us in our party and attended to every detail. The food was outstanding and the management and wait staff added to the incredible dining experience. I would definitely recommend and return again.
Delicious as always! Thank you!
A little noisy in the beginning because we arrived at “rush hour”. Better later when some customers had left. Excellent food and very friendly service. A real pleasure for Europeans like us to find a restaurant that focuses on quality and not only on quantity... Also very nice wine list.
In many ways, this is a typical Italian "red sauce joint," only the food quality is exceptional and the vast menu offers many options. The ambience is right out of the Godfather... and the service is old world, yet welcoming and professional. Looking forward to our next visit...
As always - fantastic.
We heard so many good things about Riccardo Trattoria. However, we were less than impressed. The food was good, but nothing outstanding. I had the Saltimbocca and it was good, but came out with two potato wedges. Odd plating and disappointing for the money. There were six of us at dinner and nobody in the group thought there food was more than average. Service was okay, but not very attentive.
Was recommended by colleague but would not go back.
Was looking forward to being really good but was OK at best.
Great service and food.... just a bit pricy and definitely in need of an after 8:30 res for noise all good!
Amazing on every level. Can’t wait to go back. Food was so good - we cant wait to go back. One of the best restaurants we’ve ever been to in the world. From start to finish the food was amazing.
Excellent Italian cuisine in a lovely warm colored room. Excellent wine list, daily specials that include pastas, salads, perfectly prepared fish and seafood and meats are generally served with grace and kindness. At our last visit, I was disappointed by the surliness of our wait person— definitely changed the quality of our dining experience— but this was the only time I felt the service was lacking in warmth and good humor. We’ll certainly return for the best Italian food in Chicago!
Outstanding, as usual. Has now become another friend’s favorite Chicago restaurant. Fried zucchini blossoms were a real treat.
Riccardo Trattoria is the best kind of Italian restaurant-intimate, friendly, bustling, and delicious, with fantastic, friendly service! The burrata, fried squash, bolognese, and rigatoni were some of the best I've ever had! Highly recommend!
This was our first visit to Riccardo Trattoria and it was nothing short of fantastic! I had some family come into town and they had requested authentic Italian. I had heard good things about Riccardo Trattoria, so decided to give it a whirl. The place was just great. Nice, quaint space. We had a dinner reservation at 6pm on a Saturday and were seated promptly. I will warn folks, MAKE A RESERVATION and come early. When we left, there were easily 20 people outside waiting for a table.
The food was excellent, the service was wonderful, and they were so accommodating. I couldn't decide between two entrees, so they made me half orders of each. What a nice touch! Overall, we were super impressed and can't wait to visit again!
The trattoria is a local gem in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. We enjoyed and ate everything we ordered, our plates were clean. Great Italian feel!
We come from out of town every year and it is our first restaurant of choice they are welcoming and the food is always the absolute best service extraordinarily wonderful they deserve every award that they have received and one reason we keep coming back to Chicago was to visit Ricardo Trattoria
Food was excellent and we were especially impressed with the extensive menu options. One could eat here frequently and not eat the same thing. Prices were very fair. A great neighborhood place.
Nice neighborhood feel. Casual dining. Food was excellent. It was quite tasty that not once did I have to ask for extra parmigiana which is what usually happens when I go to Italian restaurants
For the first time some of the flavor and texture was missing. My thought was the chef must be on vacation because I have been many times and have never be disappointed. Based on that I am undeterred and look forward to my next visit.
Great food, great service. A must go to place. Small and Quaint.
Outstanding food and service. The Pasta E Fagioli was amazing, and the service is first rate. Our waiter was helpful and friendly, broken English and all. Best meal I had during a long week-end in Chicago.
Seafood stew, a real letdown. Seafood cooked earlier in the evening, strong over cooked seafood. Appetizer, fried zucchini flowers extremely salty. Won’t go back. Sorry
As always a warm and inviting evening! The gracious treatment and delicious food always stellar!
We love this restaurant. Great food and ambience.
Food is average but prices quite high. But that’s not the issue. We did not enjoy our experience because of the service our waiter name Alex A was not attentive, doesn’t smile. We asked for hot sauce or tobacco sauce. He didn’t even check and just brushed us off and said no we don’t have it. He could have brought pepper flakes but clearly he didn’t even try or be bothered. Sadly to say we won’t be back
This was really not a typical experience for us. We have always enjoyed everything about Trattoria but the last time was our first bad experience. I was entertaining friends from out of town. I asked the waiter if we could change out the tomato sauce on the Rigatoni dish with the pink vodka sauce (have never had a problem asking for a slight variance before). Also asked that a dinner salad be brought out at the same time as the other entrees, as one friend wasn’t feeling good to eat more than that. The salad came out about 10 minutes before the other entrees and when the rigatoni dinners came out, they were both very dry and sprinkled with Italian sausage that had no taste. Seemed to be more like hamburger meat. The complimentary bruschetta had also been sitting with the chopped tomatoes for awhile because they were soft and soaked from the juice Again, have never had this type of experience but just disappointed since I was entertaining friends from out of town and I had raves about Trattoria
Best Italian restaurant in Chicago!!!
Best Italian in the city. Hands down.
Food and service were excellent. Wine list cook be more extensive
WE thoroughly enjoyed. Already have made plans to return next week.
Food and ambiance were excellent as usual. A great place to enjoy friends and great food.
The restaurant is quaint and the wait staff is excellent. I never leave a restaurant hungry and most often have leftovers wrapped. I ordered the Dover sole special and when thought they forgot most of my entree in the kitchen. It was the smallest serving of fish I have ever been served with very little in addition to that. I was done eating in 3 bites then patiently waited as my dinner partner finished his very nice seafood pasta. Beyond that the restaurant was very good.
Best pasta and caprese salad we’ve ever had! Don’t go to Chicago without a stop here!
Excellent variety and wonderful Northern Italian cooking
We loved this place! Reminded me of so many spots we enjoyed traveling in Italy. The food was authentic, delicious and the service was fantastic. We felt right at home! Great spot!
Always a fantastic dining experience. The food is top notch, fresh, and authentic. The dining room is simple and classic. Very quaint and inviting. Christian is an outstanding asset to a wonderfully executed restaurant. He is so welcoming, and does everything to make his guests feel special yet comfortable. A Lincoln Park staple. We will be back regularly.
Visiting from way out of town, we were looking for something special. We definitely found it here! We made it last minute reservation, arrived early and we're seated immediately. The server was incredible, and very knowledgeable about the food the wine the desserts and after dinner drinks. All the other support staff were great and the food was super good! We would definitely come back and highly recommend this restaurant!
Appetizers and meal were great except beef linguine. My husband thought is was too beefaroni tasting. My saffron risotto with seafood was fantastic. The salads and calamari were also fantastic.
The room is a little tight, but you forget all about that once the food arrives
Wonderful meal delicious food!
