Riccardo started his career at a very young age in Milan's prestigious "GIRARROSTO" family owned. Then, in 1982 he moved to the United States and he opened the famous Sonny Bono's in Los Angeles. In 1987 he started to work with his cousin Roberto Ruggeri, with him he opened Bice New York, Los Angeles and many others around the world.

Together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."

Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course. Some highlights of the menu are Veal Chop Milanese, Veal Shank Osso Bucco, Pappardelle with Short Rib Ragu, various classic Rissotto preparations, and for dessert options like Panna Cotta, Homemade Tiramisu and Tuscan Ricotta Cheesecake round out the menu.

The tagliolini with butter and fresh white truffle was out standing. The lobster bisque was very good. For the main course we had the devil cornish hen Diavola which had a sauce that had you dipping for more. Dessert was our go to Tiramisu.

Riccardo Trattoria was amazing! My Dad and I went for his birthday and the food was so good and very authentic. They even surprised my dad with a little candle on his desert for his birthday! Amazing service, intimate, and delicious food. Bellissimo!!!

So I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday , & the food was excellent! Absolutely satisfied from that standpoint. Although I’m rather disappointed with our service because I requested they sing her happy birthday & they proceeded to skip that part of the meal meanwhile everyone else who had the birthday service was catered too accordingly… it wasn’t fair and from that alone I don’t know if I want to return which breaks my heart because the food was great.

Apps were great, the tuna tartare and fried calamari were delicious and soft, but the lobster ravioli did not taste fresh and was extremely fishy. We mentioned this to our server, and the plate was taken away. We weren’t given another option and weren’t given at least an explanation for it, and we were still charged full price. Disappointed with customer service (or lack thereof).

We decided to try Ricardo Trattoria again as we enjoyed our last visit several years ago. We were not disappointed! The highlight of our dinner was the service, followed by the outstanding quality of the veal scallopine piccata, the arrancini siciliana, the lobster ravioli, the tiramisu, and the torte del a nonna. We did the early bird special for $38 each, for 3 course meals. The only critique was the Romano salad which was meh.

Everything was great. The grilled octopus appetizer was the best I’ve ever had. Next we tried the stuffed squash blossoms with mozzarella and speck. Delicate and wonderful. My husband had veal piccata and I had the osso bucco. Both were flawless.

I was visiting my daughter in college and was with my son.The service was fantastic and I’m very picky(ask my kids)!!…I had the Veal Parmigiana with the bone in and WOW!!It was fantastic……the pasta dishes were outstanding as well.HIGHLY recommend this place and we will be back

If you like traditional Italian this is a good spot. I don’t think it compares to pasta from ciccio mio or Monteverde. The cacio y Pepe was very bland and had no flavor. The pesto and cacio y Pepe had both my boyfriend and I’s stomach destroyed.

Every visit to Chicago includes a trip to Ricardos. Food is usually amazing but not this time. Pesto overloaded with garlic and pasta was too undercooked. Maybe has something to do with the size of the menu. Too many options to choose from
