Riccardo started his career at a very young age in Milan's prestigious "GIRARROSTO" family owned. Then, in 1982 he moved to the United States and he opened the famous Sonny Bono's in Los Angeles. In 1987 he started to work with his cousin Roberto Ruggeri (owner of Bice's Venture), with him he opened Bice New York, Los Angeles and many others around the world.

Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."


Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.

I had the whole branzino and it was fenomenal. It is hard to find a dish like this. It was perfectly backed and the sauce around it was amazing. The presentation was beautiful. Don't leave this restaurant before you try a dessert, any dessert. They had profiterols as a special and I am going back for those.

My girlfriend and I went out for Valentine’s Day (a couple days late), and we both loved it. The service was incredible, and the food was exactly what we had set out for. Burrata to start, flank steak and risotto with veal meatballs for dinner, and tiramisu for dessert, all done perfectly. Highly recommend for a great Italian dinner at a reasonable price.

Trattoria Riccardo never disappoints. Wonderfully prepared food - based on classics but often with interesting ingredients and flavor combinations. Limited but well curated wine list. Attentive, competent, service. Simply decorated and comfortable room. Moderate energy and noise level from the mature clientele.

Many choices, each one more interesting than those available in other high end Italian restaurants. Excellent preparation. You can't miss no matter what you select. Service is professional and attentive.

I marvel that a restaurant can maintain so large a menu of dishes each of which (so far as my experience goes--and I have eaten here a number of times and tried quite a few dishes) is entirely individual--and wonderful! The service is friendly and accommodating. And the prices are quite moderate, considering the quality of the food and the expertness--and I believe "authenticity" (that is, I believe it is genuinely Italian!)--of its preparation.

We love Riccardo Trattoria and return frequently. We particularly like the number of seafood options and that the menu and preparations seem to be authentic to their region and heritage.

Wow. What a night. This restaurant is a hidden gem in the city. You walk in and it feels like you’re at a table with all of your family. The wait staff was phenomenal and the food was even better. We will be back.

Always a pleasure to eat at Riccardo Trattoria! One of TWO authentic Italian restaurants in Chicago, my spouse is from Italy and I lived in Italy for a while. We had the spaghetti alle vongole and the restaurant week special of pappardelle with a black truffle cream sauce; both spectacular, pasta cooked to perfection, pappardelle housemade, and the sauces superb! The calamari fritti was a little off, the breading was light, tasty and crisp but the calamari was very tough and chewy. The eggplant parm timballi appetizer was a little off also, the eggplant was just a little hard, not quite soft and tender. It looked like Riccardo was not cooking Sunday night. The chocolate lava cake and the apple tart were both out of this world! Riccardo Trattoria is always a treat!

Lovely dinner.
Sea Bass was delicate, flavorful. Wine selection complimented a wonderful meal
