Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."
Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.
What Insiders Are Saying
Classy without being overly pretentious. Riccardo Trattoria is one of our favorite Italian restaurants around.
We have been here a handful of times and each time we have thoroughly enjoyed everything about the restaurant. Food, service, cost - everything. I recommend this place to anyone looking for quality. You do not need to go downtown to get an amazing dinner. There is a lot of history in the area I would urge anyone to google!
As usual everything was excellent. Food service etc.. Riccardo always delivers a great experience. We have been coming for years, and it has been great every time.
We’ve been big fans ever since Ricarddo opened. Never been disappointed by any meal. A large and interesting menu with a genuine Italian chef from Milan.
It was Valentine's Day, and my date and I wanted to enjoy a meal with great service.
Service, as usual, is excellent. But, the food I have found on this occasion, and the lady visit, is slipping in quality. Pasta was overcooked, and the sauces were bland.
But, the octopus appetizer was excellent.
Excellent, authentic Italian with quality ingredients. Always a great experience!
We had a lovely experience at Riccardo Trattoria. My wife and I have been several times, but it was the first time for the other two people in our party. They loved it and said Riccardo is now one of their favorite restaurants and that they will be back.
Our server made our experience enjoyable. He was attentive without hovering and welcoming.
We had not been to Riccardo's in a few years and it was as good as we remembered. The service by Christian was as good as ever and he even remembered my husband's name. Definitely will go back and recommend to others.
Excellent service and the food was outstanding. I went for restaurant week and it was a great deal. I had the tuna tartare, it was ok but my husbands grilled calamari was delicious. I ordered the lamb shank for entree and it was excellent, so tender it melted like butter, great flavor too. I would definitely go back.
Outstanding food. Service was great. The chef came out to greet us. We will definitely be going there soon.
I have been going to Riccardo for years. The service and the ever evolving menu have never disappointed. Each time, I walk away more impressed which is an amazing feat. 6 of us were there at primetime on Friday night to celebrate a milestone birthday. The 7th person had a flat tire on the way and was consequently delayed. I was worried because I could see how busy they were. I asked if we could delay ordering entrees and instead order another appetizer while we waited. Our waiter was so incredibly gracious. He took the order and then told me not to worry or feel rushed and to enjoy our time together. Everything from the appetizers - try the zucchini flowers, to the pasta dishes - try the orrechiete with rapini and sausage - to the main courses - try the ossobucco or rack of lamb - to the desserts - try the pannacotta or ricotta cake... everything read incredible! Thank you Riccardo's for making my birthday such a wonderful memory.
Flawless, authentic, delicious: fantastic, sophisticated northern Italian food. Every dish was wonderful.
This cozy, nicely decorated restaurant is a welcome antidote to a bleak winter night. We came for the restaurant week fixed-price menu, which offered many more options than those we were seeing at some other restaurants, and had a delicious, relaxing meal. Everything our party of 4 ordered was excellent, and the waiter was very helpful and attentive. The sound level remained moderate, even when the restaurant became full, making it easy to have a conversation. We'll definitely be back.
The best Italian in Chicago, authentic, true to Itlay, excellent service.....my spouse is from Trevi, Itlay and knows! We love this place!
We had a fabulous experience dining at Riccardo. The menu is extensive, the food delicious, the wait staff amazingly attentive! One of our new favorites in Lincoln Park!
Went to have a nice date with my wife and check out the place for Restaurant week. We had never been before but saw lots of great reviews. We loved the look of the place and thought it had a great feel to it. We were warmly greeted and they took our coats. Wish we hadn’t done that...I don’t think the heater was keeping up with the cold all that well. My wife and I were cold the whole time we were there. The eggplant appetizer was probably one of the best eggplant dishes I have ever had... wonderful! I also ordered the minestrone soup. It was an odd purée like consistency with lots of potatoes. I didn’t care for it at all. The lamb shank was nicely prepared and very hearty. My wife ordered a seafood dish that was overpowered with mint, I am not sure if that was an accident or not, but I have never seen mint being paired with seafood. Perhaps it is an acquired taste. I’m not sure. The deserts were really good. I loved the tiramisu. All in all, our experience was just so so. On the plus, I still had a great time with my wife and we enjoyed our time together.
We went for restaurant week and all of our food was amazing and reasonably priced. Great wines and good atmosphere. All pastas we're homeade and good sized portions. Our server was excellent in providing suggestions since we had not been before but we will go back.
Excellent food and wine, which is very indicative of authentic fare found in Italy. While the restaurant is slim, that adds to the Italian feel. Have recommended to friends, and will continue in the future!
Such a great experience all the way around. Service, food, atmosphere.
Food and service was amazing! Only down side was that it was extremely crowded for such a small space. Although hearing the conversation at your table wasn't difficult, the same remained true for all of the tables around you. But I would still recommend 100%.
My favorite restaurant in Chicago -always an execllent meal
Always consistently great. Frankly, this is the best and most authentic Italian restaurant in Chicago. Staff is always very welcoming and friendly. Food is absolutely delicious.
Amazing pasta dishes and highly recommend the sea scallops appetizer!
Overpriced for lack of quality
I liked everything, I even tried the tripe, first time in my long life.
The food is very, very good and for a Monday night we we're glad we made a reservation.
Neighborhood Lincoln Park gem. Classic decor and great wait staff. One of best traditional Italian places in city
You feel like you're in Italy. The food is delicious and well prepared. The service is friendly and efficient. It is a relaxing environment.
Portions were a little small but the food was delicious and the menus was diverse with some unique and delicious choices.
We have been going to Riccardo for about 10 years now. It is still our favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago. Excellent service and great Martini.
We used to love this place. Went there the night we got engaged and have gone often since - but in last year or so it just is not nearly as good. We recently took family from out of town there because they wanted to try the place we had spoken so highly of We hesitated but thought maybe it had been a couple of off nights so we tried it again. Wrong. It was even worse. It just is not nearly as good. Food not as fresh, things too salty, and the bread was really a disappointment. It used to be amazing.
Everything was delicious! Be adventurous and order the tripa antipasti. It is outstanding. The service is top notch. We enjoyed the entire meal.
never disappoints ....a chicago classic and holding strong. the service was as expected spot on and very helpful with paring wine with the dishes we ordered. fresh and well prepared Italian classic food, looking forward to getting back there with friends soon!
Wonderful! I went to Riccardo Trattoria for dinner on New Year's Eve, and everything was perfect! I thought service would be slow because of the busy holiday, but our server was incredibly attentive and the food was delicious. The price was very reasonable as well. I will absolutely be back!
Everything about Riccardo was fantastic!
Every food item was great. Our waiter was very attentive but not over bearing.
We will definitely be coming back.
Restaurant is great and Nino does an amazing job!
A favorite! Authentic. A must! Great authentic dishes and great wine selection.
Multo bene. I’ve grown up making pasta with mia famiglia and I’ve eaten it all over Italy but the quality of the food and the hospitality here is second to none. Buona fortuna.
The food is good here-the service as usual was hit and miss. The waiter wasn’t super interested in our table which is unfortunately-Nothing new for this place.
It’s not edgy. Just annoying.
Carbonara was great.
Riccardos Trattoria is amazing! Not only the food is delicious but the whole staff works together to bring a pleasant experience. Christian was our server and was very kind and was always taking care of us! Thank you very much Riccardo for making a great birthday dinner for my mom. 5 stars!
Ricardo’s restaurant is a gem in Chicago. Loved all of it! Our waiter, Christian, was amazing!
