Ri Ra Irish Pub - Charlotte
Meticulously restored in Ireland and shipped to the US, Ri Ra embodies everything that you would expect from a genuine Irish Pub. Ri Ra comes from the phrase "Ri Ra agus Ruaile Buaile," a phrase translating roughly as divilment, good fun or any sociable activity that improves with fine food, a nice pint of Guinness or dram of Uisce Beatha (whiskey). Ri Ra can be defined as place or state where exuberance and revelry prevail, where music and merriment compete and the conversation flows smooth as the Guinness ebbs in the glass. Slainte!

My family and I went to RIra’s for St. Patrick’s day. The corn beef was very tender but the sauce on the meat was good, but not a traditional corn beef and cabbage meal. It was so dark in there, I couldn’t read the menu. Server was excellent. He was from Ireland and on a internship. Very friendly and fun. Attentive to our needs.
Excellent waitress and really enjoyed the food. We usually go there when we are attending an event at the Belk Theater.
Our waiter Charles was excellent. Was always there checking on us but not overbearing. The pork nachos were delicious! The dinners were yummy as well! We’ll definitely be back!
Enjoyed our dinner here very much. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Good portions. We made reservations and when we arrived we were seated right away. We had an early dinner and just as we were finishing a large group came to the bar and they were a bit noisy as we were seated close to the bar. We definitely would recommend Ri Ra and will go back.
Excellent service and awesome Irish Chicken Curry and Fish and Chips!
Salmon was dry. Otherwise food was fine.
We had a 5:45 appointment and our table was not ready for at least 15 minutes. This was disappointing.
Great waitress who kept the Guiness flowing
Great place. Great food. Great customer service. Always lol forward to returning.
Loved this little pub. Food was excellent - the three of us had the nachos and potato cakes to start, 2 people enjoyed the delicious burgers and I had the fish and chips. With a brownie sundae to share for dessert. Everything was delicious. The service was impeccable. Never once had to ask for refills - our server was so attentive. And loved the decor. If looking for a laid back, bar style experience, you will love this place.
We arrived early, were seated as we waited for our other person to arrive, staff was great about the short wait. Drinks and appetizers were great, the potato cakes are awesome. 3 of the 4 of us dined on the Irish Chicken Curry, the lone hold out went with fish and chips! All meals were great.
Everything was great. The service was stellar. I am sorry I do not recall the waitresses name.
I had the best waitress I’ve ever had in my life! I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone ever! Beyond amazing food as well! Very satisfied!
Rebecca(Our Server) was Simply Amazing!!! The food was Fantastic!!!
Good Irish pub food. We especially love the fish & chips.
Authentic Irish pub in the heart of downtown Charlotte. Generous portions and value priced with outstanding, attentive service.
We enjoy going to Irish pubs or Scottish if you can find them. We have definitely had better. We started with the sausage rolls, which were good but there was only 2. Thankfully it was just the 2 of us. We then shared the salad with prosciutto, fig and goat cheese. It was delicious! The shepherds pie was pretty good but a fairly small portion. The lamb stew was bland. Even after adding some salt and pepper my husband was disappointed and did not eat it. The service was pretty good but they did forget to bring our chips out to us. When we asked for the check, our server saw my husband had his stew still there and asked if we wanted a box. My husband said no thank you that he didn't like it and it was bland. The server actually agreed, but did not compensate us in any way. We are certainly not the type to complain very often and never expect to not be charged, however if we have ever mentioned we were not completely satisfied with a meal, they usually insist on not charging you or making some adjustment to your bill. We may try it again, but would not order the stew!
Had an opportunity to grab a bite here before a concert on a week night. While the downstairs area was bustling with customers, we asked to be seated upstairs for a bit more quiet. It was perfect. We had an attentive server who accommodated us very nicely and our meal was delicious. Have visited here before and would definitely return.
Service was fast and friendly, but the food was overpriced for the "just okay" quality. And the shepherd's pie, which you'd normally expect to be big enough to need a to go box, was tiny! The man at the table next to me also got it and ended up eating some of his wife's food because of how small the portion was.
Went for a Birthday, thoroughly enjoyed the food! Excellent service, and a shot of Baby Guinness to celebrate!
We were seated upstairs where there only one other group. We changed tables twice because they were wobbly. Clearly there was a renovation happening in the area. Ordered chicken wings Mild, they came very hot bathed in sauce. Cheese from pub pretzel turned into a ball of solid wax as it cooled. Bathroom upstairs didn’t work. When we went down stairs we saw open tables and a nice atmosphere. We went to Connelly’s next door and spent $200.
Beautiful facility. The area upstairs is great for large groups. Food came quickly for a party of 16.
Visited at 5 to 7 on a Tuesday evening. Had a reservation for 4 people. Asked for a quiet table and were seated on the second level. Service was good, especially considering that the server had to constantly go up and down the stairs. Drinks were a bit pricey, but this is uptown Charlotte in the evening. Food was warm, but average. Two starters of wings were tasty. Best meal was Fish wife's was similar. Would have thought lamb stew would have been outstanding in an Irish pub. Place seemed to be a bit under-staffed. We were satisfied, but not impressed.
love the place stew was excellent should had bread with the stew
We go uptown only a couple of times a year. I have been coming here since they opened in 1997. We always go to RiRa’s, but we will NEVER GO BACK.
We had reservations; we were seated: got drinks, but ask to let us relax before we ordered our food.
Next - we ordered; that is when it all went to hell. The waitress did not write down anything (STRIKE #1) We got our order (delivered by another staff member - each time) My wife's order was wrong - she requested "Med Well" w/onion rings. She always cuts her burger in half, which was bloody "RARE" (#2). The waitress never came to check on our order, I had to leave my seat to flag down the hostess (#3). The waitress finally came by with our condiments (which should have been brought to the table w/the meal or before) - (#4) she took my wife's plate with an attitude (#5) - (like it was our fault) - The manager came by and apologized but offered nothing else. As my food is getting COLD - 15 min later she got her burger with fries (should have been w/onion rings) - (#6 & #7) The waitress never came back to check on us (#8). The Burger was Med - passable... I guess.
I would expect the waitress to be apologetic and to over compensate; as well as the Management. The waitress lost all interest in us and was rude (#9 & #10). We got our check for $83.65 and left a tip for $8.36 (too much) normally 30% + We remained pleasant as always.
My wife who is from Canada and has lived here now for 11 years was upset... as this was our Anniversary night out; we had tickets to see Jesse Cook that night and I wanted it to be perfect and I know things don't always work out.
BUT the staff at Ri Ra's had an opportunity to resolve the situation, by doing the right thing.
Not w/$$ - BOTH ORDERS should have been redone (correctly) so we could eat a HOT MEAL TOGETHER.
They missed the chance to impress us, but instead they have lost a customer who will not enjoy retelling this disaster over and over. Disappointed.
BAD Ri Ra BAD… Just BAD
Tasha made sure our bithversary was taken care of we love this place.
Food was good and service was lovely. The portion of fish and chips was large; however, the beef tips was pretty small. There were lots of onions and potatoes, but hardly any meat. We enjoyed our time at the restaurant.
Play with 4?ladies. Very nice experience
We were seated upstairs for dinner; we had tickets for an 8:00 show at the Belk and everything was great. Our server, Krystal, was very friendly and did a great job. My mom and I ordered the same entree - the blackened salmon - and we were both very pleased with it. We had a wonderful dinner. Would definitely return!
both the food and service was great. We had a group of 10 and the server was fantastic. It was very crowded, but her service was top-notch!!
We went here for a pre-theater dinner. Noise level was too high to be able to have a conversation. Food was very good
Granted, we were there for dinner on New Year's Eve, but they seated us in the middle of the dance floor/party area for the NYE bar crawl. It was noisy, the waitress was grumpy (way grumpy), the food came out for 2 people at a time with about 3 minutes between deliveries...for a party of 10. We had reservations for 12, but they tried to squeeze 12 place settings in 10 seats - luckily we had a cushion. There was a fight involving the bouncer on our way out of the restaurant, or bar scene at that point. A complete disaster. Why take dinner reservations if they are turning the place into a bar?
Casual with interesting atmosphere- server was attentive
Showed up at the reserved time just to be told that they were not taking reservations or doing table seating and that “the guy working earlier should have turned them off.” Should be noted that there were still reservation times available even when we left over an hour later. Also notable that there were 3 waitresses helping 4 people that were not at the bar and had recently been seated. Helpful hint: If you aren’t taking tables, don’t treat people who book them on Open Table like crap when they show up for their reservation.
We booked a reservation on Open Table. Our table was available and our server was prompt to get drink order. She was helpful and friendly. Our Nacho App was yummy!!
Everyone ordered a different entree and all were delicious. It was a great family dining experience. We needed gf choices and there were options on the menu.
Some really bad food, I ordered the lamb stew (no stock), Shepard's pie (no stock), and then finally the salmon dish. Fish was rubbery and old like it came out the freezer.
We went on Christmas so there was a limited menu. They were out of several things. It was very slow! It took well over an hour for one appetizer and a burger. It was loud and service was slow but the waitress was trying. The fries were cold but the burger was ok.
It was one of the few places open for Christmas Day as we were traveling. However, they were out of some of the items already when we arrived, so I settled on another menu item - the Irish breakfast. I don’t like runny eggs, so I sent them back twice. I asked for fried hard, and the first two times they came back jiggling. The third time they came back almost burnt, which I understand after sending them back twice. I just ate what pieces I could and left it alone. They were definitely short staffed for Christmas, but they should have adjusted and limited the amount of reservations are service was really slow. Definitely not what we were used to as it used to provide good Irish service and food. The last couple of times it was just ok, and I’m not sure we will be back. I’m really disappointed.
Saturday night on the weekend before Christmas. The place was far from full. We had reserved a table for 5. When we arrived there were three of us but we told the young man we were a party of 5. He checked our reservation and walked us back to a table for 4 and picked up the extra set of silverware. We had to remind him we needed a table for 5. Once seated the wait person immediately took our drink order, and returned awhile later with our beverages. Then she disappeared. I had to flag down the young man who seated us to find the waitress. Once we ordered the food arrived in good order, and it was delicious. The manager came around to check on us, and we asked for bread to go with our dishes of lamb stew. Who serves a main dish of Irish lamb stew with a delicious sopping liquid and doesn't offer bread as part of the entree? Fish and chips was a beautiful piece of haddock precisely cooked, along with underdone french fries posing as chips. If you're going for authentic fish and chips - then make the chips authentic! Overall, we were expecting a better experience.
Ri Ra is described as a pub shipped over from Ireland and that's exactly what it looks like. It's got charm oozing out of every piece of wood, and delicious grub to be gotten. I would gladly eat here again.
