   Excellent service and food was excellent. Carrot soufflé and Rib of beef mmmmmmm!! Not the cheapest but real class

   We ate on a Sunday evening when wine was reduced by £10 A BOTTLE and the food was£18 for two courses. The meal was very good value, well presented and well cooked. We would return if in Sheffield.

   Not loving the name at all not loving the pink they've included in t shirts, menus etc just doesn't look quite so classy somehow. But fortunately the food is still as good as ever, the staff as lovely as ever and the evening as enjoyable as before.

   I want to start by making it clear that I've been to S&B once before and LOVED it, everything was spot on! Therefore I booked it this time to take my partner for our 6 year anniversary, and was thoroughly disappointed... We went for the early bird menu as it is the best value and was so good before, but none of the menu options were particularly appealing, the chicken/chorizo terrine was flavourless, salmon main was overcooked, and the best desert option was plum trifle (nice, but just a trifle). The waiting staff were friendly and attentive as always, the courses were served a little too fast if anything, but they did have a case of the dropsies with things being knocked, dropped or smashed throughout the meal. I will go again because I know they can do so much better, but probably when I can afford to stray from the set early bird menu. One day I hope to try the Carte Blanche menu because I know it will be something special! I'm sorry for the negative review, I hope I can write a positive one soon!

   Excellent meal once again but sad to read restaurant closing in its present guise. It's extremely disappointing to find a good restaurant for it then to close after just over a year.

   really enjoyed Smith & Baker the food and service was very good the restaurant was busy on a Wednesday evening with diners I will definitely return as I really struggle to find good places to eat in Sheffield a very good selection of game dishes on the menu which you don't see often on menu's the only downside which I don't think anything can be done it is very noisy from people conversing and I struggled to hear the conservation across the table it is not from people being loud I just think it is the building

   My family and I visited the restaurant on a Saturday lunch time to celebrate my sister's 30th birthday. I had informed the staff before time that we would be a group of 5 plus a baby in a pram so they had ensured we had a table with enough room to have the pram alongside the table which was a good start. The staff were super courteous, knowledgable and quick to help when my sister needed to change her baby and they realised the restaurant didn't have a changing facility. They didn't dither and created a solution that meant my sister wasn't embarrassed or made to feel awkward which was nice given it was her birthday. The food itself was rich and in good solid serving sizes but very very tasty. We all enjoyed our main meals from the a la carte menu and there was a craft and quality evident in each individual dish. Mains were designed to work as a full meal so there was no pressure or need to add sides, which was a nice touch given they were all £20+ (the mains, not sides!). Most impressively though was the effort put into making this feel like a high end dining experience, despite it being a quiet Saturday lunch time, we received home made bread and canapés as a little free treat and a selection of cake tasters at the end decorated with happy birthday for my sister. These lovely touches really made it feel like a special meal and we really appreciated the effort the staff had taken to treat us well and the restaurant's decision to be generous and tempt visitors back with taster dishes. I had never visited the smith and baker dining room before but I really enjoyed it (the restaurant itself is nicely decorated with good toilets too - again they haven't skimped and I appreciated the effort all the way thorough the restaurant) and will definitely visit again.

   The initial impression was poor. Instead of being shown to our table, the waitress simply pointed to an available table across the room and we made our own way to it. Once sat down the service was good and staff were attentive and one young man who took our order was particularly polite and helpful. The bread was lovely as were the little taster bites. I ordered the squid and the calves liver, my partner ordered the scallops and the cod. The squid was tasty but it was so tough, I struggled to cut it with a knife. I pointed this out to the waitress and my complaint was dealt with very efficiently by the restaurant manger who apologised and agreed to remove it from my bill. The main course of calves liver was equally disappointing .. Cutting through butter it was not! I was warned prior to ordering that it is served rare.. Which was fine, but the liver was full of connective tissue which again meant I struggled to cut into it. Again, The complaint was handled very well and I was offered an alternative dish but not wishing to eat alone, I declined. May I add both my partners dishes were tasty and cooked well, albeit in my opinion overpriced. Pudding was perfectly acceptable and I thank staff for the complimentary desert wine. The evening was a present and I chose Smith&Baker because I had read the reviews and I wanted the meal to be something special. Sadly, even though the staff made attempts to salvage the evening, the food let me down and I will remember our visit for the negatives.

   Not tried Smith & Baker before - was having an early birthday celebration with girlfriends and decided to give it a try, heard it was good? Was not disappointed we had a fabulous meal - chose the 5-10-5 menu as it was our first visit - WOW did we have great value in every way - we will all return and recommend this place, the food and service were fab, thoughtful extras and excellent service

    Another lovely evening introducing more friends to the delights of this great restaurant. Fabulous food, great service and wonderful attention to detail. Love how the coffees/ teas are presented .
