Excellent seafood risotto!!
Thank you, Roger, we put all the love in our food!
We waited 40 minutes for our order. The food was tasty, but servings were small. Our server kept saying our food would be out soon, but it wasn’t. We weren’t offered bread or refills on our beverages. We won’t be back.
Dear Dine Out Often, Please accept our apologies for the delays on 7/13. We strive to provide excellence every night. Your comments are helpful and we work with our servers to improve their skills. We hope give us another chance.
Convenient location for the Berkeley Arts district. Pleasant enough space, food is fine, not exceptional and service pleasant.
Place was too noisy with Happy hour drinkers.
Food was overly salted, so much so that my vegetables accompanying my halibut were inedible.
Dear Susan, Thank you for your constructive feedback. We work with the kitchen staff to keep their seasoning on point.
I added a note to the reservation that it was my mom's birthday, and while everyone wished her a happy birthday there was no comped treat or singing, etc...
Also, while our waiter was nice, he reeked of stale cigarettes and looked as though he had not slept in days.
Dear Rachel, Please accept our apologies. We strive to please and to provide excellence at every level. Thank you for your feedback. We work with all our staff to improve service.
So convenient for the Berkeley Rep Theatre. The show was terrific. Seating , via OpenTable was right away. I ordered the chicken dinner which was great.
Yes would go for pre theater. Food is very good but need to add more sparkle to wait staff- unemployed college students syndrome
I gave very poor marks for service, but that isn't entirely fair or true. Apparently there was some problem in the kitchen, not enough staff I was told 40 min after we ordered and had received nothing. Our server was trying, but the management did nothing to make their service better. An explanation that food would be taking longer than usual, offering compensatory something- even bread- would have helped. We did, after asking what was going on several time, receive a complimentary appetizer. But I will have to think hard before going here again before a play at Berkeley Rep or the Aurora, despite how close it is.
Dear Guest, Please accept our apologies for the poor service on 7/6. We did have a last minute emergency with a staff member, and that resulted in an understaffed floor. We appreciate the constructive feedback and use it to improve our team. Hopefully, you will give us another chance.
The food was fine, even though the menu had few choices for main dishes. The service was poor, to say the least. 1) After we ordered our main dishes we also order bread and a side dish. The bread and side dish never came until we asked for them again after our main dishes arrived. As a result, the table was very crowded and it was difficult to share the side dishes. When we finished the main dishes it was difficult to get the attention of our waiter, and but two of our party ordered dessert. Then we waited and waited for it to come. Again it was difficult to get the waiter's attention. He finally told us that the dessert order had not "been prepared," which probably meant that he never took the order to the kitchen. He promised us that the dessert would be removed from our check and that we would not be charged for the side dishes, but when the checks came the dessert order had not been removed. As we were in a hurry to get to the theater we simply paid and left. Revival is a destination restaurant for theater goers, so it obviously needs to have more attentive waiters!!! We will give Revival one more try and that will be it! Maybe you won't miss us because you're so crowded???
Dear Joanne, Please accept our apologies for the mis-steps that night. The manager printed the check before he heard about the adjustment from the server, due to the theatre rush. We did call you, and we made notes in Open Table that we have a dessert for you on your next visit. We do work hard to be fast enough for everyone going to the theatre and we do care about every guest equally.
I would recommend because it is convenient to Berkeley Rep and Aurora theatres. Service by waiter was very good. He was attentive and efficient. The bar tender, however, makes a lousy martini.
Close to Berkeley Rep, food was good, and the services was very nice.
Food was good but very noisy. They have a very popular happy hour going until 6.
Beet fettuccine explained to us by the chef was really cool.
Service was slow but he was pleasant and trying hard. It seemed like the kitchen and bar were overloaded and erratic- our drinks and food came out at different times. The food was tasty enough overall I thought the place was just ok.
Best experience I have had here
A nice place to go with artisanal cocktails and a variety of small plates that can easily be shared is a highlight of this dining experience. Waitperson knew our food limitations from open table notes and guided us through the menu. It can be expensive if $30+ entrees are chosen, but here’s what I would recommend if 3-4 are present: order a variety of small appetizers, shared salad, and 3 for $25 cheese/pate board*, their bountiful fries with aioli, deviled eggs (5 halves per order), meatballs or aranchi or oysters. Pair that with one of their signature drinks such as the Raft or a proper Manhattan, Redbreast Irish liquor and finish off the meal with an almond milk cafe latte. If you wish an entree I can highly recommend fish such as salmon, swordfish. Their pizza looked good. This way a couple can leave with some change from a $100 bill including tip. Service is attentive though drinks from the bar took some time to arrive. * try the soft Sheep cheese called Brebirousee d’Argental for a special treat. All in all one of our favorite places before Berk Rep, Aurora, or Freight & Salvage outing.
Thank you for the thoughtful review. It sounds like you have a great grasp on how to best experience our menu. We can't wait to serve you again.
Good food in a casual atmosphere. The service was a bit slow but was polite.
We had an excellent waiter, whose name I didn't get, unfortunately. He asked the right questions, suggested helpful things, was available but not obtrusive. Blond straight hair in pony tail, tall and thin. He got us to the theater with plenty of time to spare!
That was Sebastian! Thank you for noticing and drawing our attention to his service; he certainly is a valued member of our team.
Great place for a celebration, we were honoring a birthday and met a group of our friends who were celebrating a birthday.
Great food and a window table kept the volume down. Two changes: real bread instead of foccia and pita. With all the great bakers around this was a poor substitute. Also “little gem” was delicious but for $15 I expected more than a couple of leaves of lettuce. We did not try dessert but it looked good.
Very friendly and attentive server. He went out of his way to answer my many questions about menu items and gave us plenty of time to enjoy a drink and appetizer before ordering dinner. Food was great--interesting, fresh and tasty ingredients, nice presentation, but not overly fussy.
Very competent service staff and delicious concoctions in both beverage and food departments.
I have been to Revival Bar+Kitchen three times in the past month. It's a great place for a quick dinner before a show. The food and service is outstanding!
We sat here for 40 minutes before getting any food! And that was after I inquired about it. They were Woefully unprepared and understaffed. Unfortunately I will not be dining here again, not a good experience!
Reservations for party if 11 at 8pm on a Friday. Restaurant is across from Berkeley Rep so presumably many diners come in early. In any case, much to our dismay, as we ordered we were told “sorry we are out of that” for not one, not two, but three items! Menu has 7-10 entrees so not a lit left. After waiter announced no more French fries I asked to speak to a manager to see what the chef could figure out. Then our waiter returned and told us the chef would be able to provide the missing items after all. Who were they saving those French fries for? The food was good, not amazing by Berkeley standards. Cocktails were very good. Waiter was little very and accommodating. Obviously some things to work out in the kitchen. With so many superb options in Berkeley/Oakland would recommend seeking other options unless you have to book a large group at the last minute as we did....
Very Happy with this first visit! We look forward to the next time we will be attending a play and have the opportunity to have a pre play appertise .
I like the food and the convenient location. The service has always a bit iffy. They forgot our oysters completely, but comped us a drink when we asked about it and canceled it because it was too late in the meal.
Our meal was good—we both had the trout—but service was odd. They honored our need to get to the theater by taking our orders quickly. All of our courses were delivered at once. After the rush we didn’t see our waiter for a long time. We gave up on ordering dessert. Then we were given another table’s bill.
Our waitress said it was an off night in that they were short handed and things were not flowing. She did her best, though it was frustrating to wait 35 minutes for a salad, and for her to forget I wanted to talk wine before ordering a glass with the entree. Since this was my first time here, I'm not sure what the service is like normally. I thought the food a bit expensive for the quality, which was ok, and not remarkable.
This place is convenient to Berkeley Rep and that is why I chose it. Hopefully the management will iron out the wrinkles. I would come back for a drink at the bar, and perhaps some bar bites.
Thank you for bringing this experience to our attention. Management looks at these reviews daily and we are constantly working on the development of our team to deliver a sense of community, and excellence to our guests. We hope to see you again!
Convenient for the theater, generally easy to get a table, right near BART, full bar. Food is not inspired or particularly interesting, but it's fine for a quick bite before a show. Service is not great -- took a long time to get our drinks/food and the kitchen is not flexible in accommodating changes.
Thank you for your review. Our food is inspired by the terroir of Northern California, where 100% of our ingredients come from on a daily basis. We work hard to create dishes that are creative, unique, and delicious while working with local farmers and producers to receive the highest quality ingredients. Unfortunately, during peak times we are unable to accommodate all of our guest's special requests due to the high volume of orders pre-theater. We hope you understand and give us another try.
Met with friends for dinner just as the theatre crowd abandoned the place. So we largely had the restaurant to ourselves (this was at about 7:45). After a big rush it is common for the service to take a rest so it was not as stellar as it could have been with maybe 8 people dining. But it was still good and our waiter was a really good guy. We had not been there for a while but this has long been one of our favorites downtown so we introduced our friends, new to the area, to it. Food as usual was very interesting and good. Very good wine list, great bar, nice atmosphere, not that expensive, given that restaurants in Berkeley have generally gone nuts on pricing (45 dollar entrees at some places? really?). So this is a comparatively good value. Definitely still on our list after these years.
Not a great restaurant, but you can't beat the location if you are going to Berkeley Rep. It has a good selection of entrees and salads as well as a nice wine list.
We dined at Revival as it was very close to a show we were seeing that evening. The waiter was very thoughtful in asking us about our timeline, and we did not feel at all stressed about timing.
The service was fair: our waiter was very personable and helpful in choosing between wine choices, but there were long lag times between ordering and something coming out from the bar or the kitchen. Our salad arrived after quite a wait, and then fairly soon after that, the main dishes arrived. The busboy was attentive with water, but not really clued in re reaching in front of customers to refill glasses.
The food quality was good: my husband had the steak, which was perfectly cooked, and I had the trout.
I think that what they have going is location, location, location. Berkeley Rep and the Freight and Salvage are right down the block, so this is a perfect spot for a before or after performance meal or drink. I think I would try something new before I would go back; it was good, not great.
Thank you for bringing these finer points of service to our attention. We are working hard at implementing these valuable critiques into our service to continually improve the experience for our guests. We hope you join us again!
This is my absolute go-to restaurant for amazing food, great atmosphere for date-night, and ethically sourced food. It is not too "precious" and it is perfect for both pre-theater dinners and lazy weekend brunches.
From the moment we walked in, it felt great. We were greeted kindly, shown to our table, and everything went just like clockwork. From one of our party being late and the host and server making sure we had him taken care of, to smiles and good food and a nice meal...all was terrific! Well done and look forward to the next time.
We came here to celebrate our son's 8th grade graduation. From the moment we sat down, the service was prompt, efficient, but most of all, friendly. My two sons (14 and 12) devoured the Wagyu flatiron steaks, and my wife, my mother and I each enjoyed our entrees as well. We all commented that each of us would have been happy with each other's dinner. The cocktails were delicious too.
Love the atmosphere-both elegant and casual at the same time. The wait staff are always great--helpful deciding on new dishes, knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly.
Thank you so much for saying so! We've been working hard on addressing all of your comments and feedback in order to improve service. We're exstatic that you've noticed!
Waitress was very patient with us trying to modify our orders for dietary restrictions.
Food was creative and flavorful but pricey
Very loud. Server no personality and hardly spoke or checked on us. Food was just okay. Def not work the inflated price.
Not sure if they were understaffed, but it seemed like all the servers were behind. Took nearly 20 minutes to get our cocktails. They arrived shortly before our salads. Right after that, we got our entrees. We ended up getting and drinking our wine after we were nearly finished with our entrees.
And this was at 6:00. There were still many empty tables.
I appreciate you bringing this slow-down in service to our attention. We are working hard on our bar and in particular upping our service to the guest. On that night in particular we were short staffed byu a few team members, though that is no excuse for poor service. We hope you join us again and allow us the opportunity to give you a 5-star experience.
