Revival Bar+Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Revival surpassed my expectations. I chose revival to entertain out of town guests. There are so many East Bay options for interesting food these days. But EVERYONE thoroughly enjoyed the meal start to finish, from cocktails to dessert...just fabulous. Sophisticated flavors, lovely presentations and all done without pretense.
We loved the unique menu and the food was interesting, tasty and beautifully presented. It is clear that considerable thought went into balancing flavors within each plate. Revival does all its own butchery and creates delicious pates, mouses, and sausages. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The service and ambience were fantastic. We will definitely return since I can't wait to try more of their menu.
The food was delicious! But dinner service was sub par. I had a reservation, had to wait 10 minutes for seating. The hostess explained that other patrons were slow to leave. That struck me as inappropriate to say to a customer. It was a rainy night, so i imagine diners were loath to leave. My friend ordered a beer mid-meal that never came and the main entrées took a long time to get out. We were two guests who didn't dawdle, but dinner (from arrival to bill) took two hours. Longer than i had planned on. At least we didn't get billed for the beer that never came.
Our group of four really enjoyed ourselves on a very rainy, busy Saturday evening. With recent memories of slow Sat evening service elsewhere & problems in getting out the door on time, we made a 5:45 PM reservation to be sure we could get to our event comfortably before 8 PM. But we had excellent service & a very fine meal. (A special thank you to Justin, serving tables may not be your normal role & our group is not given to overlook problems, but what we experienced was just really good service!)
Despite a few reviews that said the service was slow, we went anyway. Told the hostess and server we had a little over an hour before our theater performance. They got us to the table and took our order and delivered our food in a very timely manner. Delicious cod and duck dinners. Time for coffee too. Happy we ate there.
I was excited to try Revival as a new resident to Berkeley and we were having a happy family reunion. Unfortunately our server was unprofessional and rude. After she brought the drinks they were wrong then she was rude and passive aggressive. The food was pretty good although for the price the service should match the food quality. I'm in the food biz so I know its tough but I worry this server reflects the management-I hope not. I may try again but will look to see if she still works there. Enjoyed the short ribs and ambiance. For the price need to step it up. I would like to try it again but may be awhile.
This place has it all--great ambiance, varied menue, romantic setting, cool bar scene. We ate before the theater which is only one block away. The food was outstanding, and we really appreciated that it was organic and locally sourced. Then after the play, we came back for drinks and dessert. A big success!
Our first visit here since it changed from Downtown. Love the piano rolls on the walls! Food was great. Only negative was their ability to keep up with the service when there were competing events at Berkeley Rep and at Freight and Salvage. Otherwise, all was well.
We made a reservation for 6:30pm for our first time at Revival before a performance at 8pm at the Berkeley Rep just across the street. We arrived at 6:20 and were seated immediately. We mentioned the 8pm performance. They said we "no problem". We immediately ordered a beer, wine and a side salad served promptly. By 7:20 we still had not received the entrees. Our waiter said they were very busy but it should be along shortly. Finally at 7:40, almost 60 minutes after receiving the salad, we were served our entree! We gobbled the entree in 10 minutes and paid with cash to speed up the process. We had no time to enjoy the delicious entrees and no time for dessert or coffee. The manager forgave the entree cost, but the dinner was ruined.
Revival Bar & Kitchen is a fabulous place in every way- the food, the philosophy, the ambience. They deal with local farmers and ranchers, serve fresh organic interesting food, and it's fun to sit at the kitchen bar watching them prepare things. There were 3 of us and we all loved what we had. The cocktails were superb and my short ribs melted in my mouth. The flatbread was an incredible blend of flavors of quince, duck, onions, spinach, pomegranate. Do not miss this place!
I go fairly often because of their great location, but always, the food and service are very uneven. I think they don't have enough staff to stay on top of the table needs, and the food is extremely uneven -- some delicious and some too mediocre to be served in such a "nice" restaurant. Keep to the simple stuff. I want to like it but it's reliably disappointing.
Food was delicious but very limited menu for me, as I avoid gluten and red meat; however, I had a delicious kale salad and roasted Brussels sprouts (the most delicious I have ever had); salmon was another option. Also, my diabetic husband is careful with his food selection to avoid sugars. He had the salmon and vegetables dish and flatbread but ended up with very high blood sugar after the meal - there was hidden sugar somewhere. Otherwise, a nice spot, very atmospheric. I would go again.
Everything is good about this place except the noise level, which is unbearable. I won't return, nor will my friends.
I wish the management would consider putting up a barrier between the bar, which should be "energetic", and the dining area, which should allow for conversation.
Revival, operated by a chef owner, follows the farm-to-table concept to the fullest including its own butchery. The menu changes frequently, But there always is an excellent charcuterie platter. The night we dined it included smoked duck breast, country pate, duck liver mousse, mortadella, and pork rillette. Entrees may include duck, pork, chicken, bass, short ribs, mixed grill etc. The small plates also change often including grape salad, trotters, and roasted Kabocha squash. The cocktail list includes both old classics and innovative artisan drinks. I loved the Revival Sazerac with Rye, housemade bitters, and St. George Absinthe. The atmosphere suggests an old speakeasy with a canopied area with drapery and vintage light fixtures.
The food was good, and my 5 other companions enjoyed it a little more than I did, in fact. I thought the duck confit was a little tough on the flatbread we ordered, and the french fries had good flavor, but were also were a little tough as well. The squash fritters were good, and the kale salad was nice. Overall, the food I've had in the past I've enjoyed a more. Service was excellent and it's a beautiful place with excellent drinks. Our group had a good time.
