There are many small dishes which are very well made and presented but too pricey if you are expected to order two of them to make a dinner. The garden salad was not so great. A glass of wine for $12-14 was pricey.
There was only ONE server for Sunday brunch. ONE. So she was working overtime. I don’t blame her for the service she was really nice. The management left the place to the kids to run and the outcome just wasn’t good. I would not dine there again.
Very nice cozy atmosphere. Interesting food combinations. Plenty of options for vegetarians. Delicious wine.
Things started out well, but then our server got too busy to give us any prompt attention. We also felt the portions were small for the cost. Though a lovely space, and well situated in Downtown Berkeley, we would not return. There are better options in Berkeley.
Had a great time. Great service. The ribs were amazing.
Great food well prepared with delicious tastes. Consistenly outstanding.
The food was terrific! My husband ordered the fried chicken benedict (he cleaned his plate!) and I got the mushroom toast. And a side of billionaire's bacon. And both dishes had all the richness of comfort food without feeling too heavy.
The service was so so. Our waitress forgot to bring my husband the garden side salad he ordered and forgot to bring us the leftovers we boxed up. She was apologetic but implied that she was easily distracted.
Poor service, very slow to get food out. We waited 20 mins for dessert and had to cancel it because we just couldn’t wait anymore. Our server was basically like , oh well, we’re slow....
It was Easter, we had 13 people and the restaurant was busy, and so service was slow, but it was because the Staff was slammed! Our waitress did the best she could, and so we still rated her 4 stars. Food was not everyone’s food was prepared to the guest’s request, but the food was still very good, and portions were substantial. We enjoyed our Easter, and closed the place down...thank you!
Definitely feel like this is a mixed review. My fiancé and I shared the Hog Island oysters. Cocktails were decent.
We also ordered the beet salad and roasted Brussels sprouts. The salad was good but the Brussels sprouts were cold. Yuck.
For our entrees, he ordered the scallops and I ordered the trout. Both were delicious.
To end our meal we had the Creme Catalan which was good.
The service was mediocre. Our server was nice but definitely inexperienced. She wasn’t consistent in checking on us and had difficulty recommending items or describing the plates.
However, my reason in giving this restaurant a mixed review is that both my fiancé and I had stomach issues all night into the next day. Obviously something we shared but not sure what.
Wonderful food, delicious drinks, perfect ambience...
Incredible food. I’ve had now three mind blowing meals there. They put together flavors one would never imagine together and the call mingle in a way that rises to the level of art, not cacophony.
Loved the scallops! Everything else great as well. Excellent service.
Food and service were great, but the bar was having issues. The lavender latte was sickeningly sweet. The housemade chai replacement was pretty good, though I've had better. They were out of some of the non- alcoholic specialty drinks and the manager offered to give us another option for free because of this. The bloody mary was terribly salty. we sent the first one back only to recieve an only slightly less salty (still very salty) replacement.
Dinner was average. Artichoke app had too much of the tough part of the artichoke. I couldn’t even swallow it. Beef cheeks good but warm, not hot. Gnocchi with veggies was tasty but way too much oil on the veggies. Good cocktails and avg wine list.
Our server was gracious and knew when to check in. The trout was absolutely delicious. The baby back ribs melted in our mouths.
Fabulous dinner as always.
This restaurant has gone downhill in terms of food. Desserts and mezze plate were poor. Fun atmosphere and good Central location do not make up for declining quality and poor value.
Revival used to be our favorite restaurant, best food ever ... ambience still nice, but menu changed and only one of our dishes lived up to old expectations, service was also not so good. It took a very long time to get our drinks, they brought all the dishes out at once (appetizers and main), the wine was definitely corked and the manager denied it (although they did bring us another bottle). We are very sad about this - suspect management/chef changed.
The food is very good though quite overpriced. But for a group looking for a pleasant, upscale restaurant in downtown Berkeley, this is a good choice.
Great spot for great food!
They accommodated my large party with breeze. Their menu has a good variety on it because I have meat eaters to vegans on my business crew lunches which makes I️t hard some times to go places.
The service was fantastic and the chef even came out and thanked us and told me about the start of the restaurant which was a very cool story.
It’s the great hospitality, menu and atmosphere that will have me coming back next time I am in town!
Love Revival! Sumptuous salads. Tasty gnocchi. Creative dishes. Lovely, comptetent service. Sometimes things are uneven, but last Saturday night everything hummed. Couldn’t have been more pleased.
Post concert dinner
Always enjoy before going to nearby plays at Berkeley Rep or Aurora.
We came on a very busy Friday night before a concert at Freight and Salvage. Despite being nearly overwhelmed by the abundance of customers in the space, our server was very helpful and attentive. The food was excellent and came quickly, so we had no difficulty making it to the show. There was a bit of confusion with the bill (we received that of the adjoining table and vice versa), but it was all sorted out in good humor. My only negative comment would be that the drinks took a rather long time to come.
Yummy avocado toast and mushroom toast!
The food quality was good, but the portions on the small size. The service was both slow and inattentive. Lighting was poor. This is one of those restaurants where, if you get the wrong seat, you have to use the flashlight on you smart phone in order to read the menu. Not a terrible experience, but I'm not sure I'd like to go again.
Among the six in our party, about nine different appetizers or entrees were ordered as well as three desserts, and everybody was extremely pleased with everything ordered.
Lovely atmosphere and service but food was pretty mediocre for the price, especially for a special occasion. Tiny, barely bigger than a muddle sized oysters and whist tender the short ribs didn't have any flavor. Desert, salad and wine were nice.
We ate there before the theater at the Aurora.A pleasant enough place with good service. The onion soup was good. The lamb shank was plentiful and enough for two people, but not worth struggling through. Excellent lamb ruined by a heavy handed and witless cook. Same for the brown butter ice-cream. Who ever thought that fried butter in ice cream would please any one? They did okay with he expresso coffee. A great pity as it is really conveniently located.
Nice atmosphere with excellent farm to table food. Ricotta Gnuddi with mushrooms was savory satisfying vegetarian dish, and baby back ribs were falling off the bone tender and smoky. Will definitely go back.
This was for brunch, not dinner like I'm used to from Revival.
The food was high quality, but during our visit there was some expediting/timing issue in the kitchen. Add to that an apparently new server and it was a recipe for slow and inattentive service. The server kept putting drink orders and bills down at the wrong tables, water glasses sat empty for tens of minutes, and the server seemed unaware of food delays from the kitchen until we got a little rude about it - but we weren't the only ones complaining that morning about slow food delivery.
I never had such problems with Revival for dinner service. But the number of diners was low and so there was only that one inattentive server and their manager on the floor. I think if the server had more experience, they could have covered the number of tables with customers at them easily, but they were pretty much in the weeds, even with help from the floor manager.
It twas disappointing given how good my experiences have been with them for dinners.
Still, because we had about 1:45 hours set aside for a leisurely brunch, we weren't late for our matinee movie. But 1:45 hours is pretty long for a casual brunch.
The service, ambiance were both great. I loved the burrata app we got but everything else wasn't as good as I expected. I got the Box crab with risotto and the meat of the Box crab was almost liquidfied. It was clearly older and it's gastric juices have already had a field day with the body of the crab. We also got the duck confit dish and it was ok. It was slight salty but good.
Great food, great service and ambiance. Good value.
Perfect Valentine's Day date. We had duck leg confit with several sides and everything was delicious.
Not worth going now they have taken wood fired flatbread off the menu.
The pizza oven just sits there burning gas to attract window peepers in, but nothing ever gets cooked there now.
Great food, service and ambiance. Not cheap, but high quality. Very conveneint to theater if that's your gig!
Excellent food, great service. A bit noisy, but not too bad.
Service started out great, but deteriorated after our order was placed. Different servers brought the dishes and at the end of the meal it was very difficult to get the bill. Food is OK but not outstanding
Enjoyed it thoroughly.
The street was busy and parking was a bit tough, but there is a parking garage a few blocks away ;)
