The surroundings were very warm and attractive, and the staff attentive... but they twice tried to remove plates that were not finished (succeeding in one case). Three messages asking about disabled access were never answered, so I drove over there to take a look in order to find out. (They do have disabled access.) On the other hand, I appreciated the bubbly they brought us for our anniversary celebration.
I imagine myself to have adventurous tastes, so when I read some reviews saying the food was too weird, I thought I would find it interesting. Some things were delicious, especially salads and appetizers, but some were indeed too weird for us. The seaweed on the fish was very fishy and strongly flavored, and my lamb rib, though flavored very well, was a square in which it was not possible to tell meat from fat, and almost half the bites i took turned out to be entirely fat.
Panna Cotta for dessert was wonderful.

Altogether a delightful experience.

We held a birthday event at the Applewood Inn restaurant Saturday evening. The group consisted of 9 people in our 50's and 60's who are world travelers having extensive experience with high end food and wine. Several of our group had been to the Applewood Inn in the fairly recent past and have delightful memories. This experience, in contrast, was horrible. The restaurant was overbooked and the staff a bit overwhelmed. The wait staff was really hustling and trying their best to do a good job. The menu consisted of grand total three main dishes with a few starters available. I chose the flat iron steak, as did several of our group. One lady in our party asked for the sauce on the side. The response was, "Oh no, Chef would never do that". Very strange. So much for the customer is always right. When that main dish was served, it was not acceptable. The sauce was a pungent, fishy concoction; completely incongruent with the meat. It ruined the meal. I ate less that half. No one came close to finishing their "main dish". When the "Operations Manager" came over to ask how things went, we reported the experience in detail. He indicated that the Chef was from Scandinavia, a confirmed genius and would never make a misstep. He implied that our group simply did not understand fine dining. His arrogance was only matched by his total indifference. As we enjoyed a wonderful dinner the following evening at Baci in Healdsburg, we all agreed the Applewood Inn dinner was one of the worst experiences of our collective dining lives. We visit Napa and Sonoma frequently and we concluded that Revival earned the ignoble distinction of being the initial entry in our "must miss" list. C'est la vie.

This location and ambiance is lovely. We had wonderful, friendly prompt service. And then the tiny menu arrived. Not many choices here. Ok. It's farm to table... The seasonal melon came with two microscopic bites of ok melon with some "shiso" grounds on top. Nothing great about this. Our local Crane Melons blow away this melon. Then a very off-putting and strange combination of potatoes with mussel emulsion, a thick black gu. Just plain yuk. (Fishy potatoes) Then a nice lettuce salad perfectly dressed and smoked almonds added a nice touch. And the main course was, you guessed, a tiny portion for $30+. No rice, mashed potatoes, or any starch. Ok I guess it is Paleo... The Cod was lovely. Delicious if small. The leg of lamb was tiny and nothing special and the steak was really ordinary. And only one other vegetarian choice of the main course choices, something Pumpkin. The best part, however, were the desserts! Very inventive (it works for these dishes). Not too sweet with many layers of flavors.
Overall, I would not return here if you are hungry. A case of trying too hard to invent and falling short.

Our first time to Revival, although we'd been dining at Applewood Inn for years, under its many iterations.

The remodel of the dining space is beautiful - cozy and casually elegant.

The food...so creative! I can't say we've been anywhere recently that was so innovative - everything was simply wonderful. We had the raw beef on toast, heirloom tomatoes with strawberry hot sauce (wow!), butterball potato, and the five-dot ranch flat iron. For dessert, they had two options and we tried both: a very well made panna cotta with gravenstein apple and a delicious and refreshing strawberry sorbet.

Can't wait to go back!

Nice space in a beautiful setting. Food was inventive, well-presented, well-prepared and very tasty. Service was friendly and very attentive at first, then waned. We waited too long at the end to receive the check.

Excellent food, ambience and service. Delightful, subtle and fun menu that was really a great treat. Fresh local food, interesting to the mouth like cilantro seeds in a yellowtail crudo or a strawberry hot sauce on an heirloom tomato salad. Fabulous strawberry sorbet dessert served over slices of a slightly dry genevoise cake with finely chopped olives and sea salt. Revive is an excellent addition to the Sonoma Wine Country.

We were excited to try Revival because we love other restaurants in this family, such as Boon in Guerneville. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy Revival very much. It reminded me of aggressive, pompous menus we saw everywhere in San Francisco 15 years ago. And the waitress summed things up pretty well when she suggested that we order three or four small plates so that we could "learn more about the chef's vision." Garrison Keillor couldn't have written a better line. While I appreciate a chef's innovation and creativity, I really wasn't there to "learn about his vision." Unfortunately, the menu, and the food that followed, were more of an opportunity for the chef to show off by combining unusual and unexpected ingredients – not necessarily resulting in food that I wanted to eat. And when we chose not to take the waitress's suggestion, and instead ordered a starter and an entrée, she was noticeably annoyed and barely give us the time of day for the rest of our visit. Overall the restaurant simply seemed stuck in the past, offering a chef – centered approach (rather than a diner-driven approach) that I thought had passed years ago.

Overall a great experience with outstanding service- (thanks to our server Nicole). Do not miss the Raw beef toast- phenomenal. Skip the potato with mussel reduction whose flavors really didn't meld well together. The shishito peppers were good but not very memorable. For mains we had the duck breast - which had a lot - perhaps too much- smokiness to it and although the steak was good, it had too much the kale flavor it was paired with for my taste. The apple panna cotta dessert was epic.

 (San Francisco)·Dined on September 29, 2016

The restaurant felt amateurish. The service was instant - we were interrupted 4-5 times during the main course by servers asking how we were doing. Presentation was very nice - tastes were good. I had the duck and asked to have it medium. The waitress as much as told me that I would have to have it as it was, saying it was fully cooked, but as it was, it was too rare. When she did have it cooked a bit more, it was delicious. The veggies served with it were excellent. The Green goddess salad consisted of a ton of lettuce jam packed into a bowl with a light topping of Green goddess dressing and pistachios, not interesting enough to tackle as much as was included.
The decor is lovely - we would have preferred to be inside by the fireplace, but that was our fault. We liked the ambience. I think that Revival has a future ahead of it - it's still quite young. All the staff was lovely.

Service started slow, waiting about 15 mins for our water, then over compensated once they realized we had been forgotten. Sort of 33 to 78 rpm.

Menu is as sparse as their portions. Options are very limited making you feel you have to narrow down your dining options from choices that range from "heck no" to "ok I give".

No bread...why? Good wine choices but no alternatives. No full bar service, just wine or water. Is Jesus the bartender? Not even a soft drink option. Wine or bust.

The facility is beautiful and prices reasonable. Crowd is a little older and definitely into lots of wine.

Service was spotty, it was o.k when we arrived, but as they got busy it became poor. Different servers delivering the courses , desert, coffee with a lot of uncertainty about who got what. The prices would have been o.k. for a high end dining place but portion sizes, service, and noise level was nowhere near that level. If you are in the Santa Rosa area there are plenty of places where the food, service, ambiance would bet better for the this price level.

They have some limiting policies regarding party size and cancellation fees. Which is all fine, except that when we needed to add people and actually talk/email someone regarding kid friendliness, no one responded despite 1 email, and 2 messages (one with a live hotel operator). So, everyone lucked out when we just showed up and they accommodated us. But I was not really at peace the day before the reservation due to the 24 hr cancellation policy.
Also, they refused to do simple dishes for the kids like steamed broccoli or pasta. Which I understand, but it would be nice to have without putting it on a menu. Again, probably wouldn't have mattered had someone responded to my inquiries regarding kid friendliness early on.
Otherwise, I thought the food was amazing. One or two apps were interesting and executed excellently but didn't work for my palate. But entrees were superb and definitely happy I found this place.

We were looking for somewhere special for an anniversary, and this more than fulfilled our expectations. We've always been happy with our Open Table spots, but Revival is incredible. The service was fantastic, from the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left. The hostess and waitstaff were friendly, efficient and enjoyable. And wow--the food! Everything was delicious! Fresh vegetables come from their garden or nearby, as well as the other locally sourced ingredients. I ordered the halibut and it was flaky, buttery, and delicious. My husband almost always orders steak, and I always have a taste, but this time I wanted more--it was incredibly tender and the accompaniments made every bite burst with flavor. We had the broccoli and potatoes as sides, as well as the panna cotta for dessert. Everything was made with care and an understanding of how flavors and textures can compliment each other. My husband isn't big on sweets or desserts, but he couldn't get enough of the panna cotta. It was light, delicate and flavored with apples. We think the chef is incredible. He's also sweet and humble--he came out and introduced himself, and seemed more than happy to answer our questions and describe the dishes in detail. I wouldn't describe us as foodies, but we do love food, and it's been years since we've had an anniversary meal fit to remember, but this one will be. We can't quit raving about it to anyone who will listen, and I can hardly wait to take my sister and her husband when they visit. If you live in the Bay Area, it is more than worth the drive, and you shouldn't save it for a special occasion like we did, just head over and have a lovely dinner in a beautiful setting with fantastic service and the most delicious food.

The food was absolutely amazing from starters at the bar all the way through to dessert. Everything is incredibly fresh and prepared perfectly. Many of the fruit, vegetables, and herbs are grown right on the property. The staff and GM are extremely sweet and personable. They have an amazing music playlist set at just the right volume to be able to enjoy it but maintain good conversation. The restaurant is on the Applewood Inn property which is also a wonderful plus.

An exceptional dining and drinking experience from start to finish. Who knew we'd learn about vermouth tonight? Duck breast with carrots was remarkable, and the flat iron steak equally wonderful. Broccoli, little gems and halibut crudo were terrific starters. The smoked almond dressing on the little gems was unique and delicious. Strawberry sorbet dessert was a wonderful, fresh way to finish.

The little gems were generous and great crunch with the kashi. The broccoli and aoli were as well. The corn and mushroom dish was out of this world!
