RÊVE is not that snooty, splurge-on-your-anniversary kind of French restaurant. Au contraire.
This is your classic, everyday neighborhood French bistro. That kind of cozy little place you’d imagine in Saint Michel or Saint Germain. Not smack dab in the middle of the 'burbs. But lucky for you, that’s exactly where 5-star chef Paul Magu will be paying homage to the French comfort food that he fell in love with as a boy growing up in Paris. We’re talking authentic French onion soup. Steamed mussels. Steak frites. Cassoulets. And don’t forget creme brulee…
Come to dinner and you’ll feel like a guest in Paul and Laura Magu’s home. (Yes, kids are welcome. And no, you don’t have to dress up.) Stop by for an apéritif and a little pâté on your way home from work. Or an espresso and pear tarte after the movies.

Had a wonderful birthday meal for my husband. They even gifted us a card signed by the chef, owners and staff members with a free coupon for an order of frites! We will definitely be back.
Although the menu is quite limited our party all found something to order. The food is well above average and the presentation was lovely. Service was excellent. Considering the quality of the food and service the restaurant is a good value. We will return soon.
Reve never disappoints! Food and service are top notch. Love the outdoor dining. The garden is beautiful. We had the wild boar pate’ but gobbled it up before taking a photo. We also enjoyed the ris de veau and the seared scallops. For dessert we shared the delicious lemon meringue tart with crème anglaise and raspberries and a crisp dry bottle of muscadet wine.
Superb and creative dishes, excellent service, and a nice wine list to accompany the food. Perhaps the finest dining in all of Lafayette.
The beet salad was to die for! And the spring pea soup...delicious. Loved every minute.
Our first time there and loved it. The ambience was wonderful. Great service. We will definitely be back.
Nicely covid compliant and beautiful outside in the garden. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Food was excellent but a bit on the pricey side. Still it was so good it was worth it and we'll go back.
Loved sitting in the beautiful garden on a warm spring evening. Mussels were heaven in a very flavorful and light cream broth. The Reve salad, too, was outstanding.
great restaurant , the waiter had no personality,he didn't even acknowledge us as we were leaving, someone needs to teach him some manners.
but great food and great ambiance
Second time and can say Reve could become a “go to” ! The service is great, attentive but not overly so. Arleen took great care of us and paced our meal perfectly! The 90 time limit was discussed as we sat down, and given covid seemed reasonable for the restaurant to turn tables. The food is excellent, a quick trip to France without the jet lag!
My wife and I really enjoyed our dining experience at Reve Bistro. Excellent food, very attentive service and a relaxing atmosphere. We look forward to many returns!
Wonderful special place to go. Lafayette is very lucky to have them here!!!
Outstanding wine selection, and delicious French food. I cannot go here and not get the sweetbreads they're too delicious!
Great time had by all!
Good French Bistro-type food in the East Bay. You'll probably need to park on the street.
Lovely ambience. Friendly helpful service. Food not as good as in the past.
Reve is a very authentic and professional French restaurant. I always like to support a chef owned restaurant.
Superb food and service. Our first time and will not be the last.
Our first meal at a restaurant since the pandemic started. Very lovely experience. Nice table outside separated fro other tables with heaters. Food was excellent. Only complaint/suggestion is to provide a new basket of bread with the snails. There were 5 of us with 4 orders of snails. We had ordered an extra basket of bread ( the first basket is free, but then they charge for each extra basket) but still did not have enough to sop up the delicious garlic butter with the snails. Would have ordered another one, but since our table was isolated, did not see a server, nor did one come by to ask if we needed anything.
The service was fantastic. For our appetizers we had their French fries, I didn’t enjoyed them, nothing special. We also ordered their cream puffs which were delicious. Ordered the French onion soup. The French bread on top of my soup was burnet. I ordered the lamb shank and it was dry and tasteless. My friend enjoyed her halibut. I will give Reve another chance. We did have great Champagne.
Wonderful experience, great food and ambience , great patio
Rêve never disappoints but the veal chop meal for two was just exceptional! It was a cool, windy night but the partial enclosure outside and the heaters made it comfortable. Elaine gave us terrific service with a good sense of humor and added to a most enjoyable evening.
Authentic French food. Even the desserts are like we bought them in Paris...
Simply fabulous! Decadent and delicious all while having a very approachable menu. Merci!
This was our first visit and we will definitely be back! We really enjoyed the evening.
Love this place! This was our first trip to Reve and we will definitely be back! Great service, authentic French food, so glad we found another great locally owned restaurant!
Fabulous birthday dining experience. Wonderful French wine selection.
Our party of five loved our location on the patio. I ordered the venison special. The venison could have used a better char for more flavor and was cooked medium so that was good. The two tablespoons of puréed potatoes was the best, tastiest item on the plate. Too bad there wasn’t more of it. The vegetables were unimpressive and disappointing. Three snow peas, a pathetic little gray piece of artichoke, 1” piece of broccoli stem, and a bunch of little mushrooms. Sad. Especially with my expectations of this being a five star meal. The ground venison in puff pastry was ok. I ate half of it. We ordered dessert and they were all wonderful: lemon tart, creme brûlée, chocolate mousse, and nearly flourless cake. Our server, Chris, did a great job.
Authentic French classics perfectly executed in an enchanting garden setting. Gougeres, oysters, pate, ris de veau and lemon tart were exceptional. Great selection of French wines. We’ll be back.
As always, the food and service was impeccable. Can’t say enough. We always think of Reve for special occasions.
Excellent food, the wine recommendation by our waitress was also excellent. Great service and a beautiful setting. It was a treat ! Especially after not going out in pandemic times .
Thank you .
The weather was fantastic, the setting was delightful, the food and service were outstanding which made the whole experience wonderful. Highly recommend Reve for a truly French bistro experience.
Best restaurant in lafayette, easily. Spring menu coming next week
We sat outdoors in a very private section of their garden. It was cool but space heaters took off the chill. The food, wine and service were very good as always.
I really like this place--I've been there before and will go back. I was slightly disappointed with what I ordered this time, though my friends all liked what they had. The sole with winter vegetables was perfectly cooked, as were the vegetables, but instead of the truffle butter promised in the menu, it seemed to be in a rather sticky cream sauce. A knob of truffle butter instead would have been better. The desserts were delicious--ile flottant and chocolate mousse.
The waiter was terrific--he brought us heaters (it was a little chilly) and was appropriately attentive, but not overly. Perfect service.
We always have an excellent time at Reve. This time we shared a delicious pear-pomegranate-got cheese salad and some of those irresistible gougères. My partner had excellent seared scallops with mushroom risotto, while I had a tender piece of venison cooked perfectly. We splurged on fries (delicious) and were too full for dessert. Our server, Chris, was very good, and we enjoyed some excellent wines by the glass– Sancerre white and Beaumes-de-Venise (Côte du Rhône) red. A really fun and delicious evening.
Good French country dinning. A little pricey $$$ but you get what you pay for. Outstanding service. Nice little out door garden courtyard
We are at Reve to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It was a wonderful meal in a wonderful outdoor setting. Gas heaters kept us warm. We had escargot and onion soup for starters and then the beef cheeks, chicken, scallops and risotto, and sole fillet for dinner. Everyone was happy with their meal.
Brought my sister here for her first time. She loved the outdoor space and the distance between tables. The restaurant was allowed to open indoor dining at larger capacity. We were quite happy outdoors. My sister is a vegetarian so she tried the vegan lentil soup and the mushroom risotto. Our appetizer was the french fries accompanied by French 75s! I ordered the lamb shank special with flageolet and the salad with tapenade. Of course we had to trade the desert and our choice was the lemon tart. Everything was perfection. Unfortunately for the restaurant, a large party reservation canceled at the last moment which seems somewhat heartless for the restaurant as they rely so much on their reservations.
