Great place for dinner. Staff is wonderful and always attentive. Be sure to order the fries!
I tried the vegan dish for the first time and it was super delicious as well as light ... meanwhile my husband was eating the famous french cassoulet :). exactly what we love !!
Thanks to Chef Paul
Make a point to reserve a table when Chef does the cassoulet. And end with the mousse au chocolat!
Best restaurant in town! Food is superb; wait staff friendly and attentive.
Rev is a small space normally for 12 tables. This night they put additional tables in the space. It was crowded and unpleasant.
The service was excellent.
The food was not hot, portions small.
The Rev salad I couldn’t adjust to the taste. I sent salad back. They didn’t charge me for salad.
I think they tried to accommodate more people than room for.
I probably will not return to Rev.
We love Reve as they have the most delicious French inspired food in the Bay Area!
Exactly as advertised ,a French bistro in Layfayette. Easy, free parking. I'll go back
My boyfriend and I enjoyed a lovely experience at Rêve for Valentine’s Day. All of the food was terrific as usual. I loved the waitress that we had last time. She was very motherly, warm, and welcoming. We saw her on this occasion too and she was very helpful when we had a question about online ordering and pointed us in the right direction. The assiette de charcuterie, soup a l’oignon gratinée, moules frites mariniére, the noisettes de chevreuil poélées, and the lemon tarte were all superb. A big thank you to all the kitchen crew for their attention to detail and perfection.
Our server on the other hand was not very attentive and most of the other crew members did the work for her. She gave a very “basic” service that a customer could have received at any IHOP. I understand it is a busy occasion or you maybe had a bad day, but if you are spending nearly $200 on your meal, you want the service to be on par with that.
Excellent food and friendly service. All the flavors were on point and delicious.
We chose Reve for our Valentine dinner with out of town guests. We had been there once before and really enjoyed our meal. This time, I was disappointed in the menu. We don't eat beef or venison. The only fish entrees were sea bass with lentils, scallops, and mussels. We settled on the scallops and shared the entree because it was very expensive. Our friends shared a steak and pomme frites, which they said was good. Our scallops were delicious. My main disappointment was the squash soup. It was so salty that I almost sent it back. Our lava cake chocolate dessert was excellent. Everything else - service, ambiance, etc. was very nice. Maybe a french bistro menu isn't for us.
Best French restaurant in the Weast Bay. Period. Chef Paul and his staff do everything well.
Reve Bistro is one of those increasingly rare restaurants...authentic French, an almost disappearing option.
Owner Laura and husband Chef have created a jewel that has become so widely acknowledged that they often are able to have more than one seating an evening...even on a week night!. Our server was attentive, patient in explaining both dishes and wines, and always gracious. We were able to sample a couple of both white and red wines before ordering one of each. The venison with loganberry sauce was fantastic as was the seabass on lentils and veggie ragout. Reve is incredibly generous to the community, supporting schools and nonprofits generously. We can show our appreciation by dining there often (:
Our dinner was delightful!
Delicious food, as always, and excellent service by a French native young lady, Sophie. Wife enjoyed the scallops and lobster dish and the complimentary (for her birthday) glass of sparkling wine and my beef cheek dish with chestnut spaetzle was very good. Despite all this - and I really hate to make a negative comment about an otherwise fine establishment - we were a bit disappointed because the on-line menu which featured two dishes (the duck and the branzino), which we had been looking forward to ordering this time, were not on the actual table menu. Even today, these were shown on the on-line menu. The restaurant needs to do a better job of keeping the on-line menu consistent with the actual service menu.
Hello John, You're right! The menu should have been updated on OpenTable. I forgot & as soon as I saw your email submitted our current menu, however it is updated through a 3rd party system that can take over 48 hours to update. Our website menu is accurate.
Out of mussels the night we went, and I had my heart set of the mussels! Substituted the Coq au Vin, which was excellent.
My wife’s favorite restaurant; small portions, prepared with lots of flavors that jump in your mouth; parking can be challenging
Hello MFAGS, Thank you! FYI - Lafayette Elementary (just down the block) parking lot is now available for parking after 4:00 and on weekends. With a little walk it just got so much easier!
Outside dining should not be overlooked. It’s charming and not chilly (despite looking like it might be). Sophie is the perfect server, a Normandy native, she always has spot on suggestions and is great with the wine list. The mushroom appetizer was incredible, again a favorite, and paired well with our wine. The risotto with fresh black truffles was also a perfect suggestion, especially when in season, and not over the top expensive considering the sound of truffles. The veal was tender and the veggie sides were delicious. A neighborhood gem for sure and one of our favorite spots. Romantic for two or great for a group!
Everything was great. Wished I would have asked for the price on the truffle risotto first($41) I justified it because it was amazing, I was just surprised when I got the bill. I have never had a bad meal there.
We did not say it was our anniversary so of course they did not know but we were looking forward to a nice relaxed evening. The most positive part is the hostess who is wonderful. She gets 10 stars. Anyway we were seated first at a table so close to a couple on a date that while they were trying to know each other we could not talk to each other so we asked to be moved. They put us out in the tent and it was freezing even though they had heaters. We were seated right by the plastic door that waiters came and went so cold air all the time. Move number three was back inside. The waiter was not attentive. He spent most of his time with his back to us talking to other diners. Asked twice for butter, twice for ketchup, poured our own wine. Very expensive meal for our experience. Will not hurry back.
As always Reve does not disappoint. All of our dinners have been excellently prepared and served. I enjoyed the Truffle rissoto was wonderful.
Steak frites are a 'go-to'...we also had a scallop/lobster dish that was amazing. Very fairly priced wine list and outstanding service.
Not enough praises for this restaurant. I LOVE eating out and have been to many fine restaurants but this is the only one that consistently treats you like part of the family. They go out of their way to celebrate special occasions not only with a candle desert but with a card to the celebrant. Each and every time. The food, wine, thoughtful service, and great ambience makes it stellar in every way. Kudos to the fine staff! I come back again and again and enthusiastically recommend it!!
Anniversary dinner, we used to drive to the Wine Country. But so help we found this local gem. We’ll be back many times!
Came back for the 2nd time in 3 weeks! This time brought our family. This time we chose to sit in the covered patio area. We loved it more, because there was more room and it was easier to breath. The server was great! The food was delish, as before. This time we ordered the charcuterie board again. Unfortunately, some of the items were missing from the last time we had it and told our waiter, who apologized and ran to the kitchen to get the missing items. The venison dish was amazing again. The escargot were great. The onion soup was very good. The steak, mussels, and sea bass as our entrees were all great. We will be back.
Intimate setting with great service & the delectable foods is memorable ! Wish they had more parking ☹️
Hello Julie, Thank you for your kind words! We wish there was more parking too! There is street parking across the street as well as a public lot just about 100 yards away - a short walk. We love a ride-share option (great after a bottle of wine). Laura
We sat at the bar and enjoyed the Sunchoke soup, kale salad with beets, ribeye steak frite with peppercorn suace and the mushroom risotto. Everything was amazing, especially the risotto (Reve just announced that they had their first truffles of the season - hence the mushroom risotto) and the frites - hot, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The steak was prepared perfectly and the roasted vegetable accompanyment was excellent. To top it all off, it was Wednesday - half price wine night!
It does not get any better. Highly Recommended.
Another great experience at Reve! We appreciate the very attentive service by all--hostess, waiter, bartender, busboy. Our delicious meals were obviously prepared with care by a chef with a real understanding of French cuisine. Looking forward to our return.
Good French Bistro Food. Good wine list. Enclosed and heated outdoor patio is very nice even in winter.
Reve is an outstanding French bistro, one of the very best - if not the best - in the Bay Area. It is our go to restaurant where we are assured of having an excellent dinner. Try the beef cheeks for a change of pace - exceptional.
Really great, creative and seasonal food. We have gone back several times for special occasions and have brought friends.
Such a unique experience with incredible service. Try the beef cheeks and any soup of the day.
Great! Wine, food, service was great!
Great service and the food was excellent. We started with fresh oysters, followed by the French Onion soup. Our entrees were the rib eye steak and venison. Both were excellent.
A nice overall experience, however they were out of two things we ordered and the server didn't quite listen to us. Coq au Vin and french onion soup were amazing, fish and beef cheeks quite average. The people who run it are nice and welcoming. Not sure I would go back.
I decided to treat myself to the "Maine Lobster and Diver Scallop" entree. The price was a 47 dollars. When you factor in tax and tip, that's a $60 dollar entree. I had one , ONE, 2 inch section of lobster in the shell. And one small claw. I guess someone else got the other piece of this very small lobster. It was a bit surprising because there are size standards to keep them. If too small they get tossed back. This one did not. I would have thought at that price Id' get at least the whole tail. That is not an unreasonable expectation. I decided not to mention it at the time, because this was a special date and my dining partner was happy with his venison. But I felt short changed to say the least. The French fries were also heavily salt encrusted. We have eaten here fairly often. We even attended a book on Provence fund raiser lunch that was $350 a year and a half ago. I guess I will have to be more specific about what to expect if and when we dine there again.
Hello Diane, I'm sorry you were disappointed in the value of the lobster / scallop entree. The dish is comprised of a medley of fresh lobster, day boat scallop and house made gnocchi made with fresh Perigord truffles, garnished with a truffle lobster bisque sauce. I've reviewed the menu, and realize the description could be a little more clear. We thank you for being a loyal customer. - Laura
Delicious food, creative chef. Super kind service and cute restaurant. Overall a wonderful opportunity for a special meal and romantic dinner.
Our first visit to this very small french restaurant. Other than having to sit at the bar as they had no room in their small dining room - it was very enjoyable, and sitting at the bar actually turned out to be rather pleasant. It is a bit pricey but that was not a surprise. We had oysters - that were gorgeous, cup of lobster bisque, a salad and 2 main courses that we shared, along with drinks and wine. Be sure to make a reservation in advance if you want dining room seating otherwise enjoy talking with Matt at the bar.
Outstanding food and service!
Had another excellent dinner at Reve which included the best fries in the Bay Area as part of the steak frite. The parsnip soup was superb and the cassoulet was very good. Topped it off with a decadent chocolate mousse and lemon tart.
My favorite restaurant! The food, the staff, the wine and the ambiance all are first rate!
I found out about Reve on the show Check, please! We drove over an hour from Marin and will do it again. The food was amazing and their wine selection was fabulous. Not to mention the service... we were made to feel like regular customers from the moment we walked in.
