What a pleasant surprise. Our party of 4 was seated right away. Menu has good selection of appetizer s which we ordered tapas style. Jeramiah was our server. Service was excellent and entertaining. Highly recommended for any occasion or just a quiet spot for dinner. Both covered outdoor and indoor seating. We will be back soon to try more menu items.
Having visited Restaurant X several times already, we again had a wonderful meal. We are never disappointed. We try to frequent there every month to 6 weeks. One of our top 5 restaurants in the area.
Food was good. Variety was good. Prices reasonable for Saturday night dining.
Food was bland and not cooked well. X-Dip appetizer came out right away, but the buffalo chicken looked as if it was warmed up in the microwave and hummus was not smooth as it should be. Salmon and salad dressing had no taste, crab cakes were thin. Overall thought that food was overpriced for what you get. If you sit outside in the plastic covering section, it can be cold in the winter.
Restaurant was half filled and we still had awful service they were closing the place down by 8:30 as we were the last table there and they still ignored us
I will not be recommending Restaurant X to anyone. The atmosphere was like a quiet pub which was surprising but I did not mind. The service was attentive. The wine list is limited and over priced. The salmon was moist with good flavor. While I appreciated the coleslaw being crisp the vegetables were hacked leaving large pieces which were awkward to eat. The fried cod was without flavor and the French fries were greasy and mushy. The Shepherds 's pie was uneventful.
The food, service, and ambiance was perfect. I can’t wait to go back!
Always a great time! Food and atmosphere are wonderful. And Nick is the perfect host!
Look forward to our next visit!
Very good food. Casual. Very personable server
The food was outstanding!
There seems to be a miscommunication in regard to hours of operation. We made an 8:30 reservation Saturday, February 19th. Our server (possibly manager or owner) cut the lights off at 9:00pm and informed us they were closed. A warning or "last call" would have been appreciated. We had just enough time to order dinner and 1 round of drinks.
Restaurant X's website hours are 5:30-10:00pm & Open Table offers 9:30 reservations. Maybe it was just our bad luck (and other diners) on this particular night.
Very disappointed with this establishment. Luckily we found another place nearby to enjoy the evening.
They split the tables all over to create more deuce tops for Valentine’s Day. Menu limited (4course meal sorta) and staff over burdened. I saw a server try to give a desert to someone still on apps. Not a fan and won’t go back.
We celebrated a friend’s birthday with brunch and were not disappointed. We all chose from their Benedict menu items - eggs poached to perfection. Then we made dessert choices and the owner shared with us his favorites and described how each was prepared. We will be back!
Small place was busy when we got there and had to wait even with the reaervation but owner greeted us and gotnus drinks while we waited. Treated very well. Excellent food. Great wine too. Will be headed back. The waiter was excellent also!
New to the area, we were exploring the neighborhood restaurants and came upon this special place. It is extremely unpretentious and you'd never guess what is on the inside if you judge it by the outside appearance! We went for a quick bite before a movie so we didn't get fancy but the food was fresh and delicious and addressed both the low brow and more discerning palates. The wine list has a really nice selection of wines by the glass. Also, the service was on spot on - always a plus for me when I dine out. On the night we visited, one of the owners, Perry, made it his business to see that his guests were well served. We are planning on returning soon and I'd definitely recommend this restaurant.
Food was not good and over priced. Service seemed great for the tables around us but our server did not refill my drink the entire meal. Manager (owner I think) checked on every table with food except us. The only difference I could see is we were a younger couple and everyone else was older. Hope that wasn’t the case.
We visited for brunch after seeing a television review of the restaurant. The food was good, with the exception of he fact that my husband ordered the full English breakfast and it was served without the toast. The servers were so elusive we could not catch them to tell them about the mistake. Likewise, I decided to add a cup of soup to my order after we initially placed our order and the server did not come back to our table before she delivered our meal, I also had to go to the hostess stand to ask for malt vinegar to go with my fish and chips. When they left our check they again disappeared and my husband finally went to the hostess stand to pay our bill so we could leave. Would likely NOT visit again based on poor service.
Cozy location with good food. Service could be a little better, but all in all a great experience.
We always enjoy the food and atmosphere at Restaurant X. Guests are treated like family.
It was really cold in there. Food was good though. It’s a good place good location but it was uncomfortably cold.
Good food prepared with care. Small place where the service is attentive and the genial British owner is always present for a pleasant chat with patrons. The menu has solid “comfort food” choices along with a number of creative appetizers, salads and sides. Check out the fish and chips and the London pub decor.
The restaurant was quaint with nice decor, had good food and service, but the bright lights detracted from our experience. The lights need to be dimmed or the bulbs changed--whatever it takes. It really was extremely bright.
Our server was terrible. Couldn't remember the order, brought wine late, couldn't refill the glasses, forgot about us, brought check late. Food was ok, but not worth the price. Will not go back.
The food was AMAZING! I wish I could say the same about the service. It felt like our server had no idea what she was doing. She brought us our drinks (after waiting for a while) and no straws. She said she would be back with them and started tending to other guests. We finally got her attention and asked for our straws and she brings us two unwrapped straws! That was gross! And also... they should invest in at least ONE working high chair for children.
COZY WARM DELICIOUS
FELT SO NICE TO COME TO A PLACE IN A NEW STATE THAT FELT LIKE WE BELONGED AND IT WAS DELICIOUS
Consistently good ! Something for everyone . Relaxed atmosphere.
After my first time eating at Restaurant X I knew it was going to be one of my favorites. Food presentation is nicely done with good pairing of food. This was my third visit and the food has been consistently good. Be sure to save room for their yummy desserts!
Off the beaten path from Davidson college campus by only 2 blocks, this small restaurant offered a very tasty meal. We had the caesar salad and the wedge (both substantial and good), and the chicken and tilapia dishes, (both also quite good). The menu is small, but the choices are nice (fish, steak, chicken, pasta).
Our first time there. Elizabeth did a wonderful job, greeting us upon arrival, prompt drinks, followed by salads and divine tilapia. She was attentive without intruding. Honestly, the place has no atmosphere and very bright lights. We had made reservations and were a little startled to see the inside of the restaurant. The restaurant could do itself a tremendous favor by lowering the lights from blinding to cozy and a little redo on the dated decor. The food was really delicious and service was great! We’ll definitely return and could see this becoming one of our very favorite places in our new hometown, Davidson, to eat.
We've been here several times and I've held off writing this review to make sure my experience is what I think it is. I guess most important is that the food here is good. The portions are on the smaller size, including the wine pours which cost the same as other restaurants but there is less in the glass. Our waiter was very nice, however, someone should tell him jeans and a t-shirt really aren't the best look for a restaurant. Even fast food places require servers to dress appropriately. They do serve beer and wine however, they do not have a liquor license so you won't be getting a cocktail before dining. And you won't be getting any bread either. They don't serve it.
Everything was perfect, there with my Daughter who is in College had a perfect evening
Dinner with another couple. First time visit. Has very little atmosphere. Food was overall ok but expensive for what got. My wife had lasagna special which was $20 but came with no salad or side and didn’t even come with bread for the table until we asked. To many other better choices
We came up for Family Weekend at Davidson and had a wonderful time. The food was great and the staff very friendly. We will come again!
Excellent food and service. We enjoyed the unique ahi tuna as well as the lamb. The ahi was unique in that it was a cold dish. There was a lot of tuna in the bowl and it was seared perfectly. The rest of the dish was a combination of noodles and cabbage (I think) served as an underlying salad. Very good and much of the salad made it home for lunch the next day. The lamb chops were a bit overcooked but very tasty. The peanut butter pie was worth the drive. Server was very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Will definitely go back soon.
The restaurant has a nice casual look. The servers are wonderful! The soup of the day was good, the main course was not worth going back for. I would try this restaurant again based on the servers only who were very sweet and good.
This was my first visit. The server was delightful and we were able to sit outside and out of the sun. I have a ham and cheese omelet that was fantastic. It's not fancy, but sometimes that's perfect.
Outstanding dining experience. Been telling my friends about it.
The steak on the surf and turf tasted like shoe leather. The salad came out 3 seconds before our meals. The wait staff brought our meals to the other table before realizing she was at the wrong table. I think that might be the reason our salad came out so close to our entrees b/c the next table over also had the same salad. Poor service and add in mediocre food-no reason to waste your money.
It took 40 minutes to get our appetizer - the X-dip - and when we did get it, it had been nuked in the microwave and was almost not edible. It had hardened from being in the microwave too long. This is one of their own unique dishes and I expected it to be freshly made, not re-warmed. Another 25 minutes later, we got our entrees. The dishes may have been okay, other than everything was burnt. I had the pecan crusted chicken and the chicken was very dry and the crust was black on most parts. My husband had the surf & turf with crab cakes and he said they were good, he just ate around the burnt parts. The "meat" that was with his meal was horrible. It was so strong and burnt that we weren't even sure what type of meat it was. I think this restaurant has potential, but they missed the mark on the night we were there. It was very over priced for the mediocre food we received.
This was our first visit to Resturant X. We sat outside on the patio and enjoy a nice evening out. The service was great, not rush and the server knew the menu and provided excellent recommendations. The food was absolutely delicious!
The Pacific Blue Crab-cakes were a big hit and the old standby Braised Brisket was flavorful and tender as could be.
