Ukiyo presents a provocative menu of French cuisine at its base, with Japanese and global inflections. The menu focuses intently on seasonality and ingredients. The setting is an intimate bar of 18 counter seats, surrounding Chef Marco Prins and his team in an open kitchen.
On Tuesday through Thursday, Restaurant Ukiyo offers both our full a la carte menu and Chef's Tasting Menus.
On Friday and Saturday, we offer the Chef's 5 or 8 Course Tasting Menus exclusively.

My husband and I dined at Ukiyo a second time and were pleased to discover that it was equally as wonderful as on our first visit. We went on a Friday night both times so we had a choice of 2 tasting menus, 5 or 8 courses. We opted for the 8 course and were glad that we did because each course was wonderful and it gave us an opportunity to sample more dishes. The team is exceedingly genial and service is excellent. It's a special place that is well worth the cost.
great food for the cost - def no michelin star but still a pleasant meal. The kitchen is a tad bit chaotic but its fun to watch. great wine list, but wish they had cocktails.

I arrived dinner extremely late after some inconvenient accident. The host there is kind enough to seat me and me extra time to finish and enjoy the 5 courses meal. The food is wonderful and service is just as good.

Everything was AMAZING. It was a cold night and there was a draft when the door was opened. Maybe they can install a curtain to cut down on the cold draft. Otherwise some of the best food I’ve had in a long time.
Wow! This hands down is one of the best undiscovered restaurants in New York. Inventive menu, beautiful presentation and classic technique that produces an absolutely fantastic experience! The pre-fix tasting 8-course menu is an absolute give-away at $125. Including compliments of the chef it even feels a little long and they could do away with one of the desert courses. The chef's love for the food he makes is apparent in every detail. Interesting wine list with some offbeat selections. You sit at the chef's counter so the food is made and plated in front of you and you become part of the magic. The photos don't do justice here. Hoping they keep it up. Bravo to the chef!!!

Four of us had an exceptional dinner last night at Restaurant Ukiyo. Out of eight courses, plus chef’s complimentary course, almost all were outstanding. Certainly all very, very good. Those that stood out were the roasted mushroom, venison, and dessert. We sat at the corner closest to chef and all of us were able to enjoy conversation while experiencing the interaction between the chefs and their work. The servers were very friendly and the atmosphere very laid back. I loved having this high level of good in a casual, intimate, simple beautiful space.

Continuing the tradition of the dearly departed Degustation, Ukiyo is a wonderful restaurant serving creative and delicious food, precisely prepared and beautifully plated. Seating is along a bar, with 18 seats overall, and is great for couples. For parties of three or four, ask for the corner. Perfect for a romantic dinner!
For the price they dare to charge the quality and flavor of the dishes were below subpar.
The cuisine at this jewel was exceptional. Each bite was sophisticated, balanced and complemented all the components. Ukiyo is a small, 18 seat bar restaurant. The three chefs perform their orchestral movements right in front of everyone. We had a ten course New Year's Eve menu that hit on nearly every level. The minor critiques of a couple of the plates were, as stated, minor. The one critique I have has to do with the interaction of the chefs and patrons. The chefs had no interest engaging with the patrons, something that disappointed me. Had the interaction been better, the entire experience would have been exceptional. I understand the chefs are working, but given the confines of the space, guest interaction should be engaging, in my opinion.
Overall, a great find!
Many of the dishes were quite mediocre, especially the desserts.

The food was amazing! However, I was disappointed by the service. The servers were quick to reach between me and my companion multiple times- even when we were in the middle of conversation. Unlike most tasting menus I've been too- which make sure to separate the meals with enough time to keep us interested by also allow us to enjoy the wine and experience- this felt more rushed.
Also, there was no wine pairing for the chef's tasting menu, which would have been okay had the server been able to give recommendations! And there was no champagne at all- not by the glass or by the bottle!
But more positively, the ambiance was amazing and the food was delectable! Watching the chefs work not more than 2 feet away was a great feature and made the whole ordeal feel intimate. The restaurant feels a little cramped, as there is only a single 18-seat bar surrounding the chefs work, but it was perfect for a party of two.
Loved the dishes created by the chef. Enjoyed the 'ringside' seat watching the chefs at work- quietly, efficiently, assembling each dish without undue waiting. We had the 5 course meal and had 3 little chef specials on top of that.
This restaurant is outstanding. Our five course tasting menu was one of the best meals of our life, and we dine high end all over the world often. The dinner was sublime, beautiful, inventive, and through each offering consistently excellent. Brava! Reserve before it will be impossible to get a seat.

What a meal!! The Dutch chef and his team created the most well composed, elegant and tasty meal of french food with japanese inspiration. Must be a strong candidate for a Michelin star reward. A must try in NYC...
Really enjoyed this special dinner to close off our holiday in New York. The service was great, super friendly and welcoming and they obviously know everything about what is being served. We don’t go out for these special dinners much so for us it’s an entire experience and we’re happy we made that reservation! We liked how you can see everything that is happening in the kitchen and how much expertise is being shown by Chef Marco Prins and his team. The seating was a little too close to another couple, but that is our only remark. Thanks!!
Dining at Ukiyo was a delight from start to finish. My husband and I celebrated his birthday with the 8 course table service. Each dish brought surprising flavors that were perfectly balanced. Head Chef Marco Prins is truly an artist and no detail was missed. Every course exceeded all expectations. Restaurant Ukiyo has my highest recommendation!
The meal was great. Better than we expected. On the part of the chef, amazing attention to detail and flavors and overall a really great experience. We did the 8 course tasting and had a 7:15 reservation and we did arrive about 15 minutes early. At 8:30 the manager left the check in front of us as we were starting the final course and said she was sorry she had to leave the check with us but there are people waiting outside. Then the waiter apologized and quickly gave us champagne. It left us with a negative feeling, for 8 courses I'd expect to be there for 2 hours without being rushed out. It's a shame they can't manage the reservation times well because everything else was so good.
Food was interesting and delicious. One of the best tasting menus I've had in a very long time. Ingredients were exotic, but flavors were very familiar. Great experience.

Very delicious with unique approach, and superb service
My husband and I enjoyed a marvelous dinner at Ukiyo. We ordered the 8 course tasting (there's a 5 course alternative) so that we could try more of the chef's creations and were very glad that we did since everything was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The chef is seriously talented but this is not a stuffy place by any means. You sit at the counter and the whole team is delightful, happy to answer questions and chat when they're not too busy. Service was equally personable and attentive. The room is beautiful in an elegant, serene Japanese style, and though the food is informed by Japanese cooking it draws from a mix of culinary styles. We both thought that the serving sizes were ample for a tasting menu. I had a couple of wines by the glass suggested by our server that were very good and paired well with the food. We felt that Ukiyo provides excellent value for the quality. One of the best places we've tried recently and we hope to return.

Amazing food (creative and delicious), intimate atmosphere (small but elegant), friendly service (attentive but with a touch of humor), and incredible value (this quality would cost you a LOT more elsewhere). And finally - Quiet! What a special treat today...Definitely going back!
We were the only ones in there for a while, so it was very quiet. Food was amazing and even though you can see the preparation it arrives like magic, looking gorgeous.
this restaurant has 2 set menus. We took the 8 course menu and every single dish was beautiful and a true taste sensation. The wine list is reasonably priced. The service is very helpful and friendly and the Dutch Chef is an absolute star! We will be back soon.
