Ukiyo presents a provocative menu of French cuisine at its base, with Japanese and global inflections. The menu focuses intently on seasonality and ingredients. The setting is an intimate bar of 18 counter seats, surrounding Chef Marco Prins and his team in an open kitchen.
On Tuesday through Thursday, Restaurant Ukiyo offers both our full a la carte menu and Chef's Tasting Menus.
On Friday and Saturday, we offer the Chef's 5 or 8 Course Tasting Menus exclusively.
An amazing experience, in a great environment and with the best atención..I would strongly recommend it to everyone I know!
Incredible food and excellent experience. Will definitely come back again.
Amazing food. Amazing atmosphere. Chef Marco has an amazing ability to pair foods and flavors. I enjoyed every single dish he gave me and I can’t wait to try the new tasting menu when it comes out. I recommend Ukiyo to everyone. Worth every penny spent and I will become a regular at this restaurant
This is a terrific place to dine and enjoy the chefs at their art.
Chef Marco Prins is turning out exquisite little dishes that are as delicious as beautiful. This hidden French/Japanese fusion restaurant is a secret not for long. I have never eaten better anywhere in the world, the service is impeccable, the setting soothing and chic, and one can watch the master at work up close and personal. There aren’t enough stars to assign to Yukio. And a five course tasting menu at only $96 is such great value. Run, don’t walk to make your reservation. You will be so glad you did. There’s a longer tasting menu and you can also eat a la crate if you want, but you will miss out.
Masterful technique and bold new ideas. The chef Marco was super interesting to talk with. The restaurant has an open kitchen concept so you get to interact with the staff if you want. They were very generous with amuse bouches compliment of the kitchen. Very innovative cuisine.
Amazing. Get the full tasting menu. The flavors and dishes were incredible.
This was my second visit. I took my daughter and son-in-law. They were as impressed with the food, service, and place itself as I had been
My daughter does not eat meat or dairy. One of the staff went over the whole menu with her to show what dishes she could order and a dish that could be modified for her (that was one of her choices). We were all advised on what dishes could be shared and how many should be ordered if we were choosing to do that.
There is a tasting menu which I would recommend if you do not have restrictions. Also, there is an excellent wine list. (also beer and saki)
Everything was exceptional. The food. The service. The decor
Great food and service. Worth the money. Will definitely go back.
Food was great. A little too much talking behind the line for me but it was good all the same. I’ll be back.
Everything was good but nothing blew me away.
Wow - if you plan to experience fine dining in NYC, make it Ukiyo. Their hospitality is spot on and the food is haute couture of cuisine. Innovation and ambiance abound, Ukiyo is the embodiment of what’s so exciting about intersectional food. Highest recommendation is the chef’s tasting menu. Trust the experts, you won’t be disappointed.
Ukiyo, take all my money.
Restaurant Ukiyo is a hidden gem. It's very cozy -- you sit at a counter surrounding the small kitchen and watch the chefs create the dishes. As long as you don't mind sitting close with your neighbors, you will be happy. The food was outstanding -- we enjoyed each one of 8 courses on the tasting menu. The mushroom dish was a particular stand-out. It was well worth the price. We will definitely return.
The 5 course tasting menu was creative and absolutely delicious. The fish was incredibly fresh and tasty. Small space but really enjoyable experience sitting with the kitchen right in front of us. Attentive servers and host.
Really worth a try. Great food great people. Better than some Michelin restaurants I've tried!
Great food, great ambiance, and excellent service. All for an affordable price for a tasting menu at a chef's table in NYC!
My husband and I dined at Ukiyo a second time and were pleased to discover that it was equally as wonderful as on our first visit. We went on a Friday night both times so we had a choice of 2 tasting menus, 5 or 8 courses. We opted for the 8 course and were glad that we did because each course was wonderful and it gave us an opportunity to sample more dishes. The team is exceedingly genial and service is excellent. It's a special place that is well worth the cost.
great food for the cost - def no michelin star but still a pleasant meal. The kitchen is a tad bit chaotic but its fun to watch. great wine list, but wish they had cocktails.
Great service. Great food. Not large portions but I prefer it that way. Will come back again.
Innovative food, beautifully and thoughtfully put together that tastes as good as it looks.
Amazing—Michelin Star restaurant that does not disappoint. Creativity and artistry was ingenious. Left feeling so uplifted on many dimensions.
I arrived dinner extremely late after some inconvenient accident. The host there is kind enough to seat me and me extra time to finish and enjoy the 5 courses meal. The food is wonderful and service is just as good.
Everything was exquisite though I would prefer a non tasting menu option
Everything was AMAZING. It was a cold night and there was a draft when the door was opened. Maybe they can install a curtain to cut down on the cold draft. Otherwise some of the best food I’ve had in a long time.
Wow! This hands down is one of the best undiscovered restaurants in New York. Inventive menu, beautiful presentation and classic technique that produces an absolutely fantastic experience! The pre-fix tasting 8-course menu is an absolute give-away at $125. Including compliments of the chef it even feels a little long and they could do away with one of the desert courses. The chef's love for the food he makes is apparent in every detail. Interesting wine list with some offbeat selections. You sit at the chef's counter so the food is made and plated in front of you and you become part of the magic. The photos don't do justice here. Hoping they keep it up. Bravo to the chef!!!
Very delicate dinner
Wonderful and interesting small plates. Friendly service. Intimate setting.
Four of us had an exceptional dinner last night at Restaurant Ukiyo. Out of eight courses, plus chef’s complimentary course, almost all were outstanding. Certainly all very, very good. Those that stood out were the roasted mushroom, venison, and dessert. We sat at the corner closest to chef and all of us were able to enjoy conversation while experiencing the interaction between the chefs and their work. The servers were very friendly and the atmosphere very laid back. I loved having this high level of good in a casual, intimate, simple beautiful space.
Love the food, awsome space and a very gentle chef!
Continuing the tradition of the dearly departed Degustation, Ukiyo is a wonderful restaurant serving creative and delicious food, precisely prepared and beautifully plated. Seating is along a bar, with 18 seats overall, and is great for couples. For parties of three or four, ask for the corner. Perfect for a romantic dinner!
For the price they dare to charge the quality and flavor of the dishes were below subpar.
The cuisine at this jewel was exceptional. Each bite was sophisticated, balanced and complemented all the components. Ukiyo is a small, 18 seat bar restaurant. The three chefs perform their orchestral movements right in front of everyone. We had a ten course New Year's Eve menu that hit on nearly every level. The minor critiques of a couple of the plates were, as stated, minor. The one critique I have has to do with the interaction of the chefs and patrons. The chefs had no interest engaging with the patrons, something that disappointed me. Had the interaction been better, the entire experience would have been exceptional. I understand the chefs are working, but given the confines of the space, guest interaction should be engaging, in my opinion.
Overall, a great find!
Many of the dishes were quite mediocre, especially the desserts.
Can’t wait to go back
Excellent food. And excellent and friendly service.
What a fun place. You feel the passion of the chef in every course. The food was excellent and inventive. Highly recommend!
The food was amazing! However, I was disappointed by the service. The servers were quick to reach between me and my companion multiple times- even when we were in the middle of conversation. Unlike most tasting menus I've been too- which make sure to separate the meals with enough time to keep us interested by also allow us to enjoy the wine and experience- this felt more rushed.
Also, there was no wine pairing for the chef's tasting menu, which would have been okay had the server been able to give recommendations! And there was no champagne at all- not by the glass or by the bottle!
But more positively, the ambiance was amazing and the food was delectable! Watching the chefs work not more than 2 feet away was a great feature and made the whole ordeal feel intimate. The restaurant feels a little cramped, as there is only a single 18-seat bar surrounding the chefs work, but it was perfect for a party of two.
