Rochambeau partners with local/regional farmers and fishermen, shaping its seasonally-driven menu around the finest natural/organic ingredients. Also, we are currently preparing our own herb and vegetable garden in the courtyard.
The restaurant is named in honor of Jean Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, Comte de Rochambeau, who was appointed by Louis XVI as leader of the 5,500-person French military force sent to help the American Continentals win independence from British rule. A veteran of a number of sieges in Europe, he provided valuable expertise that helped ensure victory in the Battle of Yorktown in August 1781.

Our rating is actually 3 1/2 stars. 4 snails in a lot of sauce is not a serving. (No shells)
The price of wine is outrageous. Excellent service, except coffee was not served.
I was a little concerned as I had eaten at this location a few years back under a previous name. My misgivings were totally misplaced.
The previous chef/owner has passed away and they found a new and totally legit highly pedigreed French has come in and this new chef has not missed a beat.
This easily a top 10 lifetime lunch. It was that good! From start to finish it was some of the best French cuisine you will ever want to eat! Not to miss!
The best in Gordonsville, va. As a matter of fact competes with the best international food we have ever eaten, and we have eaten our way through Europe & Asia!!!!
OST of the food was tasteless. We miss Pomme.
Great French Chef, we feel like home.
Outstanding foie gras.
I wish there would be more wines by the glass. A bottle is too much for 2 people.
Even I have some knowledge about French wines, I would be happy to discuss about wines before making a choice. In a restaurant of such high standard and quality, 'un sommelier' or someone highly trained would be a plus.
Overall a wonderful experience.
We will be back and bring friends.
The food is as good as any I have had in France! Truly outstanding!
Lunch was great! Wonderful food, recommendations, and service. The server was very nice and attentive! The bartender was phenomenal. She was very knowledgeable about wines & all the food! She made great recommendations, along with tastes of wine so we could decide what to order. It’s so great to find people that go out of their way to please! I always enjoy eating here!
Restaurant Rochambeau is still forming its thoughts. We were looking for a lovely, inspired French dining experience. The service gave us that, for certain. Otherwise, we had a pleasant French dinner. Nothing was as sharp as expected - the vegetables in the chef's special ratatouille that looked mouth-watering was so under-cooked that the squashes were hard to cut through and chew. The perfect-looking sea bass of very sizable portion was dry. The bone-in lamb chops were cooked nicely and the presentation was picturesque, but the boneless one was well-done. The lobster bisque was rich and interesting, but the portion was so large, even split between two, that it overwhelmed the rest of our meal. The wine list is overpriced with most bottles three or more times the retail price. Overall, we had a nice experience, and will go again, but will not go late on a Friday night.
Excellent french cuisine in a very attractive location on Main Street in Gordonsville, Virginia. Rochambeau is not cheap but is an excellent value due to the quality of the ingredients and the skill of the kitchen. Worth the trip.
I ate here twice in one weekend. Dinner and brunch. These were two of the best meals I have ever eaten. The steak eggs benedict was indescribable. I will be making the hour drive from my home to frequent this restaurant. The staff is wonderful!
The food is absolutely delicious. It is pricey for the area but completely worth it. You won’t regret it!
Food is excellent. Service while enthusiastic is spotty as the wait is long for your food.
The food was amazing, even my 10 year old son enjoyed it. It was a little out of our comfort zone since we weren’t planning to visit a nice restaurant on our weekend getaway. We were served as any other guest though. Berti was great to us ❤️❤️
Real, serious, food.
Our server put our order in wrong and we were brought meals we had not ordered. We then had to wait another 20mins for our order to be re made. The chef did send out a foix gras though we did not ask for that. It was our anniversary and they were made aware. We did not expect anyting free but no fancy plating for our dessert. No sparkling wine.. It was nice however they must have been having an off night for service. I found that the service did not meet our expectations. We will give them another chance largely because of the chef and manager.
We visited Restaurant Rochambeau to celebrate our Anniversary. It was a delightful evening. We love the food, the service and the ambience.
A surprising find of great food nestled in a small town. We visited for a Saturday August lunch, joked during the meal whether Chef Guillot was really doing the cooking, and were quite pleased when he visited our table at the conclusion of the meal to check on things and to thank us for visiting.
We felt the bar staff and the waiting staff were under trained and not knowledgeable of the menu. The food was delicious the table settings lovely but soft background music would have added to the ambiance.
Birthday! Since last visit 2 months ago, the menu has been expanded to include lunch and brunch. We had a superb dinner. Better than many meals I have had in Paris!
Food was just delicious. First time we had been to the restaurant for Sunday Brunch - it won't be the last.
We had an exquisite night out with amazing food, wonderful service, and a relaxing atmosphere. This is Gordonsville's hidden gem and you must go!
Lovely setting and very good food. Service was exceptional. Well worth the trip from No. VA.
The Restaurant Rochambeau is an amazing find in Gordonsville. The food was incredible
We wanted to try out this new chef and restaurant that took the place of another French restaurant that we had previously enjoyed. While the room is beautiful and the service was excellent, the menu is very traditional and not inclusive of the many ways that people are eating these days. There was not one vegetarian choice on the Brunch menu, including the Daily Quiche and Daily omelette (both had ham). I asked that the omelette be modified, and this was done, and it was perfectly fine, but I don't think it gave me a chance to evaluate the strength of the chef.
My friend had eggs Benedict, which she liked, and my husband had a Lobster Bisque which was not a traditional bisque, not having much cream, but he enjoyed it. He also liked the short rib ravioli.
I hope the chef can become more adept at incorporating French technique into creative vegetarian (or even vegan) dishes. The only thing on the dinner menu for me would have been Pasta Primavera, which I have eaten too many times elsewhere because of no other choices.
We were a party of two couples. When you go to a good restaurant, it can really make the evening. The staff were all friendly, helpful and welcoming. The food was delicious! I especially recommend the veal wellington. The chef came out and checked on us. If you’re doing a wine tasting/history visiting weekend, this lovely little restaurant in tiny, historical Gordonsville can’t be beat!
We enjoyed lunch at Rochambeau with another couple. The experience was delightful. The food was excellent. The wine list was very complete and the prices were reasonable. Will definitely go back!
Classic French technique with a creative and distinctive take on spices.
We had a lovely lunch. The server was excellent, made us feel very welcome and explained specials and menu items. It was so nice that the chef came out to visit with us. Have already told friends about our experience.
We are absolutely delighted with Chef Bernard at Rochambeau. Sunday brunch is amazing and will be our weekly choice! The wait staff is first class, and the food was truly divine (not one morsel remained on our plates). I took a friend to Rochambeau for lunch on Saturday. We had the salmon special of the day, and it was exquisite. The dessert we ordered was beautifully presented and even more delicious to eat. This restaurant is five-star quality without a doubt!
The atmosphere is very nice...place is very attractive and comfortable. Food has improved since our last visit and was excellent. Service was attentive without being over attentive. Nice restaurant and glad they are living up to their predecessor.
We visited the Le Rochambeau for lunch because we had so many fond memories of culinary delight at its predecessor, La Pomme. We were greeted, and seated at - what we regard as - "our" window table and, after sampling the Foie Gras Maison with Fig Chutney realized that “plus ça change, plus c'est pariel”.
The service was attentive and alert, lunching on French onion soup, Quiche of the day and Seared Salmon left us eager for the delightfully light desserts of the Chef's Peach Cobbler.
At lunch today we learned that Le Rochambeau embraces and expands upon the art of french cuisine that we had come to expect at La Pomme. Cannot wait for another opportunity to return for dinner!
Rochambeau is a little gem in the quaint village of Gordonsville. The cuisine is authentically French. The atmosphere is charming. And the service lovely. I would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion and plan to make it one of my regular everyday dining haunts.
We are from the city where there are top-notch restaurants galore - we enjoy the country restaurants; however, five stars are hard to come by. Restaurant Rochambeau is definitely a five-star! It is so nice to have a special place to take visiting family and friends, and for us to go on very special occasions. We have already made future reservations for a Birthday celebration and look forward to going back for dinner. We had Sunday brunch yesterday and it was delightful; however, the dinner fare will be something we will enjoy, along with the dinner atmosphere. The chef is a delightful man and even personally took my dinner reservations when I called on his day off. His English is very good, although thick with French - and I told him that, along with the fact that his food was terrific. We are so glad we went.
My only suggestion is to lower the lighting. It was a lovely experience.
Restaurant Rochambeau is a lovely spot and the food is delectable. I had Poulet Provencal and it was beautifully seasoned and cooked. I can’t wait to go there again.
Colleen, our server, was absolutely first rate. Always present yet never hovered. She quickly noted our wedding anniversary n brought each of us complimentary Champaign.
Lobster bisque was delicious....onion soup only so so. Seemed like warmed up rather than onions that were recently carmelized. Same with the quiche . Not fluffy n freshly made ...again seemed like previously made n warmed up. My filet of trout was divine.
Bottom line::: love the place. Thrilled about the background of new chef. Wonderful menu but unfortunately a couple of our choices were less than we hoped for. Still we loved Pomme n will return soon to give Rochambeau another try.
Excellent in every way. Had fathers day brunch today. The service was friensly and unrushed.
Food was exceptional - tasty trout and delsh french onion soup to start. Chocolate dessert sampler was memorable. Enjoyed every minute of it.
The service was attentive without being intrusive. Every aspect of the meal was lovely: the amuse bouche, the wine, the French onion soup, the bass, and the dessert--beautifully plated and presented. Special attention was given to my parents, both of whom are over 80, and that was especially appreciated.
We went to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and were so wonderfully delighted with our experience at Restaurant Rochambeau. Chef came out to visit with us and while it was challenging to understand him with his thick French accent, we had a wonderful conversation about food!
We had a fabulous experience at Restaurant Rochambeau! Our server was attentive and delightful. We ordered the pre-fix menu with wine pairing. Each dish was delightful and we enjoyed the wine selections very much. The ambiance here is lovely. We enjoyed our window alcove table! Apparently, you can reserve one of these two tables in advance.
