La Pomme used to one of our favorite places to dine. Our experience left us disappointed and hungry.
I was disappointed in the very small lunch menu. I wanted toe sole but they were out of it at 11:45 am. I settled for the quiche which was okay as was the creme brulee. They forgot to bring my coffee, but at least they didn't charge me for it.
This was our first visit since the remodel. Very nice atmosphere. Great place for ladies lunch and informal birthday celebration. Loved our server!
This a nice quiet place for dinner. The staff is friendly and informative about the menu. We drove in from Orange and it was worth the drive. The sauces are delicious. I would recommend the escargot for an appetizer.
Very enjoyable dinner. Food excellent. Ambience very nice. Service attentive.
We will return to this gem in the heart of Gordonsville, VA.
What happened to Pomme?? It used to be one of our favorite restaurants. We have had two bad experiences in the past month. Tonight was bad from beginning to end. There was no hostess so a server seated us. She apparently did not know how to record on Open Table that we were there, because when we got back to the car after dinner there was an email from Open Table that we were a no show! Service was terribly slow and inattentive. It took forever to get a cocktail and our glasses were cleared without offering another. No bread came until we asked - and it was one piece per person (they charge for a second) and is no longer the excellent French bread they used to have. I am wondering if they have a new chef because each night I ordered the sole meunière which was always my favorite entree at Pomme. No more - now it is a heavily breaded crusty piece of fried fish drowning in a heavy sauce accompanied by tasteless rice. The asparagus appetizer was over cooked to mush. We skipped dessert because last time the creme brûlée was cold, thick and had crystals in it. The restaurant’s recently refreshed decor is nice but the service and food are awful. What a shame! No longer a favorite for us.
We had a party of 5 with a 7PM reservation. We ordered the pork chops, Sole and Chicken with a couple of appetizers. We finally got our main courses after 2 hours of waiting. The rice in the fish had no flavor and was dry, or not cooked long enough. We didn’t complain, but our waitress gave us a round of deserts due to our wait. The creme brûlée was like water underneath the shell and the apple tart was so frozen, we couldn’t get through it with our fork. Why are deserts frozen at a supposedly upscale restaurant? Water glasses were often empty. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. Bad nights happen, but the frozen desert is what made it a “do not recommend”.
When you visit Restaurant Pomme you will feel as if you are in France. And the service is excellent.
Lunch was delicious--every dish; service was great + included both recommendations and last-minute requests--fulfilled wonderfully!
We always try to eat here when traveling g south
Always great service and food. The new decor is very inviting and fresh. The sharing plates are a nice, new option.
I must say that I was terribly disappointed with this dining experience on Easter Sunday, we arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes before our reservation at 1pm through Open Table, The hostess told us our table was not ready and to go to the bar to wait even though there was a four top open and set up ready? When I challenged her she said that this table was for a 1:15 reservation and I responded our reservation was at one? She then had to go and get the manager to see if we could have the table, the manager came back with some excuse that she could not contact me for verification of my reservation? Needless to say I had to tell her we were here and to seat us. We were sat and it all went downhill from there, our waiter David was clueless and very inattentive, we waited 15 minutes just to get drink orders, we waited another 15 minutes for him to take our order, tables that were sat after us received bread and drinks ahead of us? My dad had to wait 15 minutes just to get a cup of coffee which I had to ask a food runner to bring to our table, never received a refill. The food finally arrived 1 1/2 hours later eggs benedict and a poached rock fish. I was amazed that the eggs benedict was basically an oved cooked egg almost hard boiled on top of a very thin piece of sliced ham "it looked like it came from food lion" on a soggy croissant, that must be the connection to a French restaurant which is their claim. The dollop of some kind of potatoes was cold and hard. My moms fish was cold and rubbery and simply not good. My dads eggs benedict was supposed to come over smoked salmon with béarnaise sauce but it came with hollandaise. During the meal our waiter never came by the table all the food was delivered by food runners. Needless to say the experience was awful and if I were the chef at a pricy French restaurant I would be ashamed to have this represent my efforts! $150 dollars later we left "Never" to return, the name of the restaurant should be changed to Le Bomb!
Easter lunch was very pleasant, despite being crowded. The food was delicious, albeit a little under-salted, and the service was reasonable. Its one of our favorite restaurants in the area.
Very friendly staff. The service was a little on the slow side with the entrees. We ordered the typical brunch cocktails - mimosas and bloody mary's. We asked but they had no tabasco for the bloody mary's which we thought was odd since it is a standard brunch beverage. The chilled asparagus appetizer was wonderful and beautifully plated but the french onion soup was prepared different to my liking. It was more of a tomato based broth and the cheese and onions were scant. We all did some form of eggs benedict - some a little runnier than others.
Pomme is a go to favorite for special occasions. We decided to drive up for an Easter brunch. This is a small place, and it is usually lovely but on this day, service was mediocre at best. We had a first course, which was slow to come out but nice, if not quite hot enough. Then the entree took over 45 minutes and of course, was barely warm when it arrived. In the interim, there was minimal attention - I had to flag someone to ask for more water. The server blamed the kitchen but there was no concession on the bill or any gesture of goodwill to make up for it.
We will definitely go back, but probably not on any busy occasion.
Very quaint French themed restaurant with lots of charm in the middle of the historic area of Gordonsville, VA. Absolutely lovely. The food and service was tops!
Interior of place was very nice, quiet. The sole drew rave reviews. The quaile not so much. Too dry.
We had a wonderful dinner!
We had high expectations for our meal at Pomme and felt our experience was mediocre at best. I am allergic to garlic and my choices were not only few, I didn’t feel as though the kitchen staff was willing to work with me like other restaurants we have visited of supposedly the same caliber. The rabbit my husband had was dried out. Shoe souls would be more tender and flavorful.
When the dessert menu was presented to us, I was embarrassed for the waitress, some of the selections were marked through with a magic marker leaving only two selections to choose from. The dessert menu was unprofessional looking and just laughable. We won’t being coming back.
I met friends for lunch , and it was delicious. The service was excellent , and the noise level was great. Nice ambience .
Main Street in Gordonsville is lovely for a stroll after the meal.
Great for any occasion
Delicious! Great new menu and charming staff. Wonderful experience.
They were very accommodating to our children. We enjoyed the meal.
Literally had the restaurant to ourselves, but that was fine. Nice quiet evening with good food/wine. We've been here several times for dinner. Unfortunately our last time was immediately after they re-opened and they were packed and short staffed due to the flu. Our waiter literally left mid-service and lunch took almost 2 hrs. Food is great and a nice gem in Gordonsville.
We had heard that Pomme had undergone a renovation at the beginning of the year, and wondered how drastic the physical changes might be. Changed? Yes, but still lovely, still cozy, still charming, and still the most glorious menu!
My wife and I and our friends went there to celebrate our anniversary. We arrived early so we ordered drinks at the bar and sat for conversation in the lounge. Quite enjoyable. We were then seated by the fireplace and had a quite enjoyable meal. The service and food were wonderful. It all made for a very special evening.
What a delicious French meal. I felt like I was in France. The quiche was outstanding. We liked the food so much we went back the next day! Highly recommended.
Amazing little restaurant in an unexpected place. Definitely worth the drive from Charlottesville. Décor is very special and food is truly delicious!
We visit Gordonsville several times a year and always make a reservation at Restaurant Pomme. Family-owned and operated, it is a real gem and our favorite restaurant. Authentic French cuisine, warm staff, and a cozy atmosphere really make a enjoyable dining experience.
Let me say right up front that we love Pomme. We've been coming here at least once or twice each year over the past seven years that we've lived in Virginia. Our experiences and dinners have always been excellent--until this latest visit. There were a few things that were definitely off. In thinking about this since our dinner on Saturday, most of the issues were with the service rather than the food. Our server was pleasant, but had trouble remembering what we'd ordered, even after reciting it back to us at the table. She had to come back and ask again what wine we'd ordered shortly after taking the order. Then, she also returned to ask again what our main courses were. The house salads were very good. When it came time for our entrees, a different server came out with appeared to be our meals; however, after glancing briefly at us, she delivered them to another couple at a nearby table who had arrived and ordered shortly after we had. Eventually, our orders arrived, but my steak was done medium to medium well rather than the medium rare that I had ordered. The staff just mixed up the orders, which happens, but we'd never encountered this at Pomme. The quality of the food was good, but not outstanding, as it has been on previous visits. When it came time for dessert, which we seldom order, we decided on the creme brulee and a cappuchino for me and a decaf coffee for my wife. Our server left briefly and returned to tell us that there was no decaf and no cappuchino--we passed on the dessert. The owner's wife was kind and asked me how our dinner was. I said that it just wasn't up to Pomme's usual standard and briefly explained why. I said that it must have been an off night that even the best places experience occasionally. She was gracious and thanked me for letting her know. I said we would be back. One other note, Pomme recently remodeled and it seems to have lost some of its French atmosphere. It now feels a bit more like an American bistro than a French one.
Good selection of wine. Good whiskey sours. Started with the We ordered the chicken and the steak. The chicken was very dry and had lacking of the rich flavor one expects from French food. Potatoes agratin were also lacking. The steak was ordered medium rare but arrived medium well. we did not see our waitress to ask for a replacement steak. When we finished eating the waitress came by and my wife ordered another glass of wine and a desert. The desert came but no wine. My wife had been looking forward to eating here since we moved to the area, she is very disappointed so am i.
Excellent food and preparation. And excellent friendly and attentive service. A bit pricey but portions are the right size. Not a place to take below teenager .. quiet and pleasant French atmosphere.
Delightful with a twist. We selected restaurant for the food and atmosphere. A friend is a vegetarian so I wanted to be sure the chef would make a meal for him. It was well planned, everyone was extremely helpful and it seemed his meal was the only one we focused on all evening. My filet was very good, my husband’s pork chop was delicious and so large he couldn’t eat it all so we asked to take it with us and our friends wife thoroughly enjoyed her monk fish. Great seasonings and sauces as your would expect at a fine French restaurant . And then there was the vegetarian meal. First the chef inadvertently put a cream sauce right before serving it so he had to begin again. The staff could not have done more to try to correct the problem. Unfortunately our friend couldn’t get beyond the mishap so apologies came from servers all during the dinner. This ruined it for me and I look forward to returning for a nice dinner experience in the near future.
It was our Valentines day anniversary lunch and it was fantastic!
We had amazing friendly service and the food was quite good except the dessert. The wine list is extensive with an excellent range of prices. There's definitely something for everyone.
I selected the creme brulee for dessert and I do not recommend it. The creme was a cold, congealed mass that was just unpleasant.
* Lovely afternoon. Outstanding dining experience . Magnifique!
It was a miserable rainy winter day when we stopped by for lunch. We were cheered by very very good food, service and surroundings. It’s the third time we’ve had lunch there. It’s an hours drive from our house and well worth the trip. Hope to return many more times.
Excellent brunch location for a cold Sunday in February.
Used to regularly dine at Pomme. First several dinners there, years ago, were great. Now the food is very average, but the prices are the same as fine French dining. I know the former chef passed, but the food and prices must match. Right now they do not. Food is very overpriced. If they want to survive they must drastically reduce prices. We will not go back anytime soon. Really wish the staff at Pomme well and hope they can adjust and survive.
Lovely in all aspects of dining!
