We enjoyed our meal from start to finish. Absolutely delicious! Thanks!
Charmingly lowkey atmosphere with amazing French fare. We celebrated New Years Eve there and their prix fixe menu was delicious.
Exceeded my expectations in every way. The service staff was friendly, welcome and knowledgeable. Food had great flavour and was nicely presented.
Will definetly be back.
Good holliday menu équilibrate , good and at à good price.
Your typical French cuisine neighbourhood restaurant in an old building with a lovely terrace in the Summer. This time the noise was due to Christmas celebrations.
Terrific classic food. The service was attentive and the meal wonderfully represented classic Quebec cuisine.
Je ne sais pas si je le recommanderais... la nourriture et le service étaient excellent, par contre la présentation était vraiment basique... disons... il manquait de finition... coulis, salade décorative.Ce N'était pas appétissant... mais pourtant très bon!
Service IMPECCABLE ! Personnel tres courtois, nourriture excellente, je recommende fortement!
Great friendly service and well made traditional French fare in old Montreal
What an amazing meal here! Food was delicious and service was fantastic. This is certainly a neighborhood gem in Montreal.
My wife and I have been to La Gargote many times. The experience and the food are always wonderful !
Great cozy restaurant and experience as the service was top notch and considerate of needs. Our server gave us great recommendations, was attentive as well. I was convinced to try the sweet breads and very happy that I did, and the wine pairing recommendation was spot on. Also had the French onion soup and I will try this again before I leave Canada.
Great place. Cozy little French restaurant with great food, moderately priced, and great service. And a favorite feature, if you make a special request (my own is for Bearnaise sauce with my Filet) when you make the reservation, they are happy to accommodate!
We were really looking forward to enjoying a wonderful meal here; however, we were unattended to for quite some time. In addition, the couple who entered after we did were waited on before us by the hostess. Overall, the restaurant appeared short staffed. Nonetheless, we are very understanding people and a simple acknowledgment on behalf of the hostess would have been courteous. Positives: Our waiter apologized for our wait and seemed friendly. In addition, the braised short ribs were delicious. My partner did not enjoy his dish whatsoever and given the inattentiveness of the hostess he did not feel that he should bring attention to this matter. Maybe next time.
We picked this restaurant because it was locted near the St. Paul Hotel. A REAL treasure of a place. Dinner was perfect. Table reserved and in best location. Menu variety and priced around $45US per person. Would do it again if in town. Talked to others in our hotel who also liked it.
We were looking for a table at a restaurant nearby and they were full. This place had an open spot. The service was wonderful. The right combination between attentive but not too overbearing. I had the short rib and my wife had the filet. The short rib was so tender and the sauce was savory and a little sweet. The potatoes were a bit cold that’s why I gave it a 4 star and not a 5 star. The noise level was a bit loud but that was only because there was a big table there. It was not the fault of the restaurant. We would dine here again!
Had a lovely cozy & unrushed dinner with friends at La Gargote. Especially have to thank the manager who overheard I was worried about the cold for the marathon the next day. He graciously hunted down a poncho for me that saved the day on a blustery morning. I appreciated the gesture so much that I couldn’t bear to part with it. Merci.
We literally stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant! We were traveling with a party of 8 people and wanted a restaurant near to our hotel. I was able to easily make a reservation for us on Open Table.
Our meals were superb! Sammy, the Owner, was equally a gem! We will definitely return if ever back in Montreal!
Lovely spot to dine outdoors and very pleasant service.
Lovely simple restaurant. In summertime it has a very enjoyable and romantic deck in the park across the street. Food was straightforward but good. Service was attentive. In good weather this is a super place to dine al fresco.
Wanted a restaurant in Old Montreal with excellent food and good value. La Gargote is on the edge of the Old City and so not a drop-in place for visitors. But it is an easy minutes walk and situated on a lovely small park--Place d'Youville. We all enjoyed our meals -- filet mignon with delicious peppercorn sauce, beef short ribs braised with hint of maple syrup, a special of veal chop with fois gras sauce. There were tempting seafood options too. Brownie with vanilla sauce was perfect ending. It was my husband's birthday so we ran up the bar bill, but prices are similar to standard for Montreal. The husband and wife proprietors were gracious and attentive. Apparently there is a busy lunch crowd but slower at dinner when locals come out. Good for conversation. Recommend!
Excelente comida, muy buena atención, hermoso ambiente interior.
The most wonderful restaurant with the most lovely servers. I have never had a bad meal and always look forward to my next visit.
Quaint restaurant in old town with choice of in/outdoor seating. Food and service was great and reasonably priced.
My daughter and I dined at La Gargote during our vacation in Montreal. We chose different appetizers and desserts but we both had the duck confit special main course, which was delicious. The restaurant is slightly off the beaten path so we were hoping for a place with more locals but it seemed as though the diners were all Americans. The service was excellent and my daughter (who is learning French) was happy to have menus in French and she liked being able to order in French.
Very good! Family restaurant. Would recommend.
Excellent restaurant de cuisine française traditionnelle. Service impeccable et attentionné. Atmosphère typique de bâtiment du Vieux Montréal : chaleureuse et conviviale.
Charming restaurant with a fire place and a nice atmosphere. We went there for New Year’s Eve so we can’t say much about the menus and dishes usually « à la carte » as it was a special menu, but the food was delicious and the service very friendly. The place was ideally located within walking distance to the Vieux Port, the party and fireworks.
Quiet, romantic and amazing food at a great value. Sammy is very knowledgeable and friendly. Highest recommend.
