Restaurant Gandhi Ratings and Reviews
Great food and service. Highly recommend this restaurant. I eat Indian regularly and suggest you order on the hot side as the chef is a bit conservative with the heat. Really great flavors and a broad range of choices. Thought the wine list was surprisingly affordable compared to others in Montreal which tend to be rather overpriced. Enjoy...i would go back.
The good: The Naan and Bhuna Ghosht was delicious. The service staff was excellent.
The bad: The biryani, gulab jamun was terrible.
The ugly: The Tadka daal was disappointing especially since it is a staple bangaladeshi dish and the chef / owner is Bangali.
If you're a connoisseur of Indian food, forget this place! It's pretty bland for food that's supposed to packed with bold spices. We like spicy food and asked for it to be spicy-it was so mild. Not sure what happened there!
It took them about 15 minutes to take our order. Then, they got one of our dishes mixed up. And they were so late with delivering our roti that we had already eaten half of our meal.
Way overpriced for what you get. Skip this.
Gracious host and waiter excellent tandoori oven meats that were moist and tender and seasoned well. I asked for their homemade hot sauce that was terrific🌶🌶🌶
Relay enjoyed the vegetarian okra dish that was so fresh and well spiced.
Tasty yummy meal and elegant dining experience . Extremely enjoyable dining experience👍
This was our first visit to Gandhi. The staff were very respectful and polite and had no hesitation in explaining and recommending dishes. The nans were absolutely good and well prepared. We ordered a Gandhi dish which included lamb kebab and tandoori chicken on fresh lettuce. We also ordered a vegetable Dansak. Some pieces of the lamb meat were a bit hard but still delicious. We had rice pouding for dessert but this was very sweet. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would not hesitate in recommending it and go back. We were also sitting next to a group of very loud people who had too much to drink but they were celebrating someone's birthday which may explain their excitement but still no excuse for spoiling the atmosphere. The service and staff was commendable.
The food here was good, not great. The butter chicken was nothing to write home about but the lamb curry was outstanding. As someone else wrote, the food seemed under-spiced and we kept adding salt. The wait staff was erratic. One fellow seemed furious about something and not the least bit friendly while the host in a suit was quite charming. The space is great, simple yet nicely done.
Lovely people and delicious food. The service was fun and friendly. Lots of options in terms of meats, seafood, and vegetarian. They will adjust the spices to your taste. The samosas and special fried rices were wonderful as was the korma and eggplant dishes we had. We will return.
Likely the best Indian food we have had world-wide! The Korma was excellent and the Sagwali was creative and amazing. The restaurant is very attractive. Our service was great until mid-way through the meal when our server disappeared. He appeared to be focused on the other room. Wish I could have given 5 stars. Hopefully we will get to try Ghandi another time.
Great food and attentive service (including a hot towel after your meal!). The food was high-quality and everyone in our party enjoyed their dish. The setting was also quite nice - great spot in Old Montreal, with lots of natural light. My only advice would be to allow plenty of time for your meal - the food came quickly, but it took a long time to get our check.
Love love love the good here. In fact it's the best Indian food I've ever had... And that says a lot since I've eaten Indian food all over the world. It was quiet when we got there but as it got more crowded the noise level went way up. And the service dipped a bit. But neither of those would ever keep me away from coming back here. Another wonder thing, besides the amazing food, was the owner. I don't know his name but he came over and talked with us. In fact he also cleared tables, set tables and talked with all the guests. He showed such joy and pride in this wonderful restaurant. It's rare to see that. I'm just glad this place isn't near home..... Or I'd be putting on some serious weight!!😄
I have been happily enjoying this restaurant for 12 years, and consider myself extremely lucky to have found it. It has so many fine qualities ...
(1) For one thing, the food is exquisite. My meals there have always been superb . In fact, when I started to visit the Gandhi, the tastes I experienced were little short of a revelation.
(2) The staff are extremely welcoming and efficient. They simply couldn't offer better service. And they go the extra mile. For example, whenever they've become aware that our table is celebrating someone's birthday, they've gone out of their way to bring us an exquisite dessert with birthday candles.
(3) As the very name of the restaurant suggests, it brings its visitors into contact with many enriching aspects of India (e.g., fine Indian art, mounted Indian instruments, beautiful Indian music, and -- best of all -- wonderful people from India).
My sister adores Indian cuisine, and has eaten at many Indian restaurants in Canada and the USA. She has exceptionally high standards, yet this is her favourite Indian restaurant by far. Indeed, it is one of her favourite restaurants of any type. During her recent 11-day visit to Montreal, we had supper at the Gandhi multiple times.
In short, I couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly.
If you go without a reservation, the restaurant's popularity may mean that you'll encounter a queue of people waiting to be seated. If so, I think you'll find that the wait is well worth it.
We had a very good dining experience at Ghandi Indian Restaurant. Reserved on line and were seated immediately on arrival. Service and food were good with usual dishes you would expect to find on menu. Waitstaff very helpful. Overall good experience would recommend.
Gandhi is probably the best and most authentic cuisine in Montreal. I have never regretted any of my visits there. The food is consistently outstanding. They should strive for an ISO rating. It would be an easy catch. Go for the lamb bryani and lamb vindaloo. Both the regular and garlic Naans are musts for each visit. The wait staff are very attentive and pleasant.
