Restaurant Carte Blanche Ratings and Reviews
Enjoy this small restaurant. excellent food. We started with a fresh baguette and butter. I had scallops ceviche with mango and it was excellent. with lots of different flavors. My date had salmon tartar. Then I had Parmentier de canard and my date - braised lamb shank which was very tender. the desserts were excellent as well. Décor, ambience and service were very good and the fact that you can bring your own wine was a deal breaker. I would definitely recommend this restaurant !
We booked a table for 13 people on a Friday night (this was not my first visit, having been there for 1 large event and a dinner for 4). Overall, the food was excellent (I had the braised lamb and tried the bavette - both excellent, as was the panna cotta and fondant desert) and the restaurant was very accommodating. However, they seemed understaffed with several tables over 8 people (only 2 servers) and we had an hour between courses, which is way too long. It was difficult to get anyone's attention and we all had to be up early the next morning, so having to wait so long for our courses was very inconvenient. It was also very warm (nearly 30 degrees outside that day) and they had the windows open - so we had to ask them to put on their ceiling fans, but it was too late. They should have anticipated the discomfort and had the AC and the fans on...it was a full house. So our experience was a bit uneven this time; I think they did not plan well for such a busy night (but I recommend it for a quieter night with a smaller group - the food is excellent and the service, when they give it to you, is very solid).
The service was very good! The food however was not the best, at least for the meat. I ordered the last serving of venison and ordered it to be prepared rare and it came to me well done. I requested something else since it was clearly over done and decided to try the lamb. The lamb chops arrived and they were also well done and had more fat on them than meat. It was very disappointing.
We have been at the Carte Blanche for the third time;and the food is excellent et very
generous plate; the personnel is very sympatic and helpfull. You can bring your own wine, which is a big plus. Do not hesitate, you will be very satisfy. It is so delicious.
My friends and I went on jan 31st so I don't know if it was because of the occasion, but the service was pretty slow. We had to call on water, bread, opening the wine bottles. But the waitress was really nice and she was sorry for the delay. I think she was the only waitress, so it's understandable. Food was good.
Went for Xmas eve, and it wasn't mentioned that it was a prix fixe menu only. We dined and the appetizers were good. Venison osso bucco was good, the scallops and shrimp were ok, but not served hot. Long delay between courses and inattentive service, no check back on how our food was. A bit disappointed. Previous visit was much better....will return next time not at holiday time.
The service was sub par, food wasn't great and it was really cold. As an appetizer my mother had the fois gras trio, which was the only thing either one of us liked. It came with a fois gras torchon, a creme brulee, and a macaron. I had the escargot risotto which was more of a tomato rice than a risotto.
As mains I had the kangaroo steak. While the meat was cooked properly (rare) it was underseasoned. The sauce accompanying the meat lacked flavor, but the fries were good (how hard is it to make fries). My mother had the dear osso buco. Again the meat was underseasoned but cooked properly as the meat was very tender. The mashed potatoes that it came with were watery and bland.
For dessert, I had the mignardises (avoid) and my mother had the pear with a cheesecake mousse. It was alright, but not great.
I will definitely not be returning here. I was very disappointed with the food as well as the service; not once did they fill our wine glasses nor were they attentive to our needs. For the price, I was expecting more.
