Restaurant August Ratings and Reviews
Definitely felt the hit to the Besh Group. I was disappointed in the service as it is usually sharp. I made these reservations prior to the 'fallout'. First time that I have seen empty tables on a Saturday night. I have been a frequent guest here in the past and I have never thought that the $ outweighed the meal but this time...I did. I hope this gem doesn't go down the tubes. JB needs to get in the kitchen and come out to every table and shake a hand. I can go anywhere, and I will.
We are from the SF Bay Area and in New Orleans for the first time. We heard a lot about the wonderful culinary experience and so far every one of the highly rated restaurants we tried have proven to be excellent.
We read about Restaurant August and decided to give it a try for lunch. The food was amazing but the service was less than what we would have expected from a restaurant of this caliber. Maybe it was because we were in our travel attire when we showed up for our reservation, but the receptionist was not very friendly and welcoming. We were surprised that this experience also extended to the wait staff who seem to have this stoic look on their faces. There were no smiles or any effort for friendly conversation, not even a question on how we liked the food.
We have eaten at many well regarded restaurants and this stuffy manner seems to be out of sync with the modern times. I hope management can pay some attention to this essential element of creating an enjoyable dining experience for their guests. Again, we enjoyed the food but the attitude could definitely use some improvement.
A buddy and I were in N.O. for an evening and opted for a “classic” dinner at August. Beautiful place and the staff were really on top of their game. We had the gnocchi appetizer, which I recommend, and the red snapper and the Pontchartrain flounder for our entrees. Both were good but rather bland in taste and presentation - we expected more. Overall a good experience but the food seemed uninspired. The photo is the red snapper with chorizo.
This restaurant was excellent food wise and drink wise. My only commentis that the service is so efficient that you have NO wait time between courses...it's a little too rapid and left me with the impression that the faster I left the more custemers they could have. Is it normal to be in a fine restaurant and be out after an hour when you've had three courses and wine?
Our family met in NOLA for a conference my husband was attending. Both of my sons (20 -something year olds) who are foodies and had never been to NOLA were excited to experience August. They loved the tasting menu and my husband and I enjoyed the wonderful selections from the menu.
Service was poor. Maybe short handed. Should have brought us from the bar earlier. Waited too long for water and wine.
Excellent food but pricey so everything should be right. Ran us out for next seating but should have moved things along with better service earlier in the evening so that they would not had to push us out.
The food was very good and the service was very attentive. However it took quite a while for our two fish entrees to come out. The restaurant provided us an additional appetizer to share to fill the extended wait time. That appetizer was good, but the overall experience would have been better if the entrees had come out more timely.
