Restaurant August Ratings and Reviews
Simply the best in New Orleans, period.
Items ordered were:
royal red shrimp & crab ravigote
potato crisp P & J oysters
five-spiced breast of duckling
I'd say the highlights were the royal red shrimp & crab ravigote, the potato crisp P & J oysters(the oysters are fried to perfection, with crispy crust and tender inside), as well as the flounder Pontchartrain, which was rich in flavor. The flounder was recommended by our server, and it didn't disappoint.
Overall really nice dinner. We didn't expect this level of excellence in this restaurant. A nice surprise.
wonderful wonderful experience. sensational food, beautiful surroundings, and our server was absolutely the best! we appreciated the extra care taken to accommodate my son's gluten free
diet requirements. this restaurant is as special as we had always heard it is.
We have eaten at Restaurant August many times, and really enjoy the Friday lunch menu. There are usually some very creative selections at good prices on their lunch offerings. This last visit, my wife and both shared the fried green tomato with crab and Royal Red shrimp remoulade, which took a fried green tomato to another level. For our entrée, we both chose the steak frites (wagyu spinalis) . It was one of the best meals we have ever had. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
My family and I had a wonderful experience dining at Restaurant Augest. We all had the Tasting menu wine pair and I gave the Vegetable tasting menu a go which was a huge shock. The Vegetable Tasting menu was wonderfully orchestrated and creative featuring seasonal ingredients whose flavors were unbelievable. The other Tasting menu was just as good if not better. I was blown away by the dishes and the service was perfect. The Sommelier, Erin is brilliant with not only her skills for pairing wine but also her knowledge in the rich history of each wine we had.
My family and I had a pleasant and flawless experience and look to come back
August is still a great restaurant. Shrimp appetizer and flounder were both very good. We enjoy the little chef appetizer in the egg each time. In the past they had great tasting menus (Regular and vegetarian). The last few times the dishes did not appeal to me that much, so we ordered from regular menu. There is limited parking across the street, but clearly many of the cars are not August diners. We still come a few times a year, but there are many great restaurants in New Orleans today. This is certainly one of them.
Dinner at Restaurant August. Froi gras 4 ways and potato gnocchi for appetizers, my husband had flounder and I had grouper for dinner and he had rosted white chocolate ganache and I had strawberry blancmange for dessert. Might have found a new favorite place to eat! The service was excellent, the ambiance was wonderful. Will definitely come back the next time we are in NOLA!
August might be my favorite restaurant in all of New Orleans, and that's saying a lot seeing the plethora of amazing options. From start to finish, this place is fine dining at its best, from the friendly, attentive wait staff to the exquisite plating to delicious coo-worthy food, I will definitely keep coming back here with every trip I take to the city.
We were in town for New Year’s and made a reservation here and absolutely loved it. The best part of our dinner was our waiter, Chris. He was extremely personable, knowledgeable and patient as we made our way through a wonderful course of delicious meals.
The food was well presented and very tasty and the atmosphere was great given the venue still has several original components of architecture.
We highly recommend this restaurant, make sure you ask for Chris!
My must go to place when dining in New Orleans. I love the ambiance, service, tasting menu, and usually the wine pairing. This time, with the exception of the main entree, the tasting menu exceeded expectations and was right on. The steak was cooked perfectly, but the sauce just didn’t quite do it for me. It seem to take away from the dish rather than make it better like it should.
Also in past, the wine pairings seemed right on and added to the enjoyment of the meal. Other than the Oro Puro Napa Valley desert wine that was superb, I was slightly disappointed in the choices. IMO it appeared the sommelier was trying to feature some more obscure wines from England and Italy that just didn’t seem to do it for me.
In summary, this restaurant is still my favorite in New Orleans, and it will definitely be on my list when I return to New Orleans and is highly recommended.
Our entire experience was wonderful. Server was fantastic, very hospitable and very well versed on the menu. Was able to offer insight into each dish to make sure we chose the proper items.
Every dish is a well thought out and unique experience in itself. Delicious
I visited Restaurant August a few months ago, and gave it the first 10 I have ever given a restaurant. Everything was impeccable! However, upon returning a few months later, and going to a crowded dinner and not lunch, I would change my rating to 7.5 to 8.0. The service was good, but certainly not great. However, this is still one of NO best restaurants, but it didn't live up to the earlier expectations. I order the Shrimp Étouffée, and this was more of a shrimp bisque which I wish was explained on the menu. I definitely wouldn't have ordered it because I also had the Turtle Soup. This was decent, but not outstanding. It was rather chunky compared to more creamy turtle soups offered at numerous other fine restaurants in NO. My date had their "famous" creamy soup (I forget the exact name, but it's a staple on their menu), and it could have been served sightly hotter. Lastly, I had the Grouper which was truly excellent. Their preparations of fresh fish is the best in NO. In summary, Restaurant August is very, very good, although when crowded they can drop a point or two because of a full house they may have trouble servicing properly.
Everything at August was delicious and unique. There is no way we could duplicate the experience ourselves in any regard. The veggie tasting menu was amazing. The service was impeccable. We had an early evening reservation and enjoyed our evening immensely.
We had a fantastic experience at August. We were seated about 20 minutes late because of a mix up on the reservations but they were extremely generous and sent us two extra appetizers on the house. Both were delicious. The gnocchi appetizer and the flounder pontchartrain were two of the best dishes we have ever had. Service was great and we will be back soon.
I find August to be underwhelming. For the level of service and detail one would expect from a "fine dining restaurant" the servers are robotic, and some of the runners could barely describe the food. The Wine parings arrived with a profound lack of description and everything felt rushed. When you dine here you feel like a cog in a wheel...get on or get off because the next person is paying and ready and you're really not that special. For 450 dollars I'd like to feel slightly appreciated. There are so many other wonderful places with fabulous service and delicious food that this just doesn't seem worth it to me to dine here. We didn't have a terrible experience, but we in no way felt like this was a very special meal.
August is one of our very favorite restaurants. Its a very well run restaurant in a beautiful space. Wait staff is very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Cocktails are first class and the wine list should satisfy everyone. Food is very creative and tasteful. If you are looking for a large plate this restaurant is probable not to your liking. However, if you enjoy fine dining we highly recommend August. Noise level is moderate so you can have a conversations with your fellow diners.
Im a french chef, husband is then a foodie.... however we brought two young adults with us (24yrs)- although they were confused by table etiquette and were considerably picky eaters- even they commented it was absolutely brilliant. The food was spectacular, service was impeccable. My only complaint is the demeanor of the staff, a bit more of a smile goes a long way.
