Yakiniku
Rengaya has been serving YAKINIKU in North Sydney since 1993, making it one of Australia’s pioneering Japanese barbeque restaurants. Now, that tradition is set to continue at its new digs on Miller Street – just a short stroll from the original location – in a much more modern, striking setting. The new fit-out features bar-counter seats around an open kitchen, red booth seating divided by Japanese-style timber panelling and a hard-to-miss chandelier. There’s also a 20-seat private dining room. We use only the finest ingredients such as Japanese Black Cattle made in Australia for beef, Sashimi and Seafood fresh from the sea. Rengaya is the restaurant foodies around the country have chosen.

All 4 of us had the makoto favourite bento with wagyu beef ribs. The beef was cooked to perfection and had a very tasty sauce. The bento was a great package to enjoy with the beef ribs. Service was very attentive to our needs. The restaurant ambience and decor had a very relaxing environment. It was a casual lunch with work friends, but we all felt that it was a special lunch!

Rengaya promises much with obviously high quality cuts and well sourced wagyu beef. I have eaten at many yakiniku restaurants in Japan and Australia and the standard of meat on offer at Rengaya is very good.

The overall experience however is severely hampered by poor and chaotic service, indifferent staff and an ambiance not fitting with the premium prices demanded. It is just quite simply very, very bad - there's no other way to describe it.

Management here clearly needs an overhaul as they seem to be unaware of how to efficiently run a higher priced restaurant.

The BBQ Wagyu was great.

The sushi however wasn't as good as expected for its price.

It was a hot day and the aircon was struggling a little. Besides this everything else was very good.

I've now taken three friends to try the fabulous Wagyu, but I wouldn't take my vegetarian wife. The grill in the centre of the table makes for a unique dining experience. The staff were attentive, helpful and polite. The wine choices are delicious and priced accordingly. Not surprisingly, they have a fantastic range of Sake.

Best Yakiniku lunch. Not cheap but it’s top quality wagyu meat - the tongue m, rib eye fingers... Pairing with genuine Japanese beer on tap. Bravo.

Glad Rengaya has re-opened, It has been a long wait. New Restaurant is modern and fresh and food is really good. Only recommendation would be more leg room under the BBQ tables
