Reef Ratings and Reviews
Stopped at Reef because it is close to our apartment and were offering a points special in the Open App. My wife and I wanted to try something new and both loved the options for appetizers on the menu.
Everything we ordered was very good to excellent. We had calamari, fried oysters and crab cakes for appetizers, each was pretty good. My only complaint was that the cornmeal hid the taste of the calamari a bit, but otherwise it was very good. Many restaurants overcook their calamari, that was not the case here.
For dinner my wife had the scallops and I had the snapper. Both were excellent.
Our server, Amy, went above and beyond. She was a true gem.
Had not been to Reef in a while; it really does serve good food. Oysters fresh and tasty, calamari very good, grandson really enjoyed the red fish and fried macaroni and cheese; the crabcakes are outstanding; our server Diana was superb and has been there forever. Caswell must be a nice person to work for, and he runs an outstanding restaurant. His wine list is quite good and very reasonably priced. Our cocktails were good, too - the martini and the bluebonnet.
Disappointed. Not worth the money was terribly expensive . There were 6 of us for happy hour ordered two appetizers plus the gumbo from regular menu and a $60 bottle of wine. The bill was almost $300 for average food and below average service. The hostess at the door met us with a less than friendly demeanor which did not help with the experience to begin with.
Will not be back way too expensive for the quality of restaurant.
Took four first time friends there for dinner and they just loved the food. Everyone loved their fish entrees and ranted and raved about the Gumbo and fried mac and cheese. Very successful evening. Service was first class as usual and nice touch for the Manager to come over and acknowledge our party and she knew me from previous visits.
The milk shakes at the end was something my friends had never experienced and they were impressed.
The overall experience was good. One issue with one check for the whole table.... we were told that is how their system is and they couldn't separate the checks for each individual party... and there was a shortage somehow after we all calculated our own individual tickets. Customer service could have been better... manager came out and wasn't pleaseant...food was good... big parties should be able to have separate checks but understood the whole table under one check gives them more gratituity added on
Dinner was excellent. We had a variety of items. Oysters were fresh and briny from PEI. Crab cakes very good with sparky little Asian coleslaw. We had Cobia, redfish, pork chop for mains. All cooked very nicely with care. Side for pork was just OK the fried Mac and cheese was amazing but a couple bites go a long way. Brian those rolls are so soft and pillowy I swoon every time and could eat a dozen if I didn't have all these other things on my plate. It was a lovely evening albeit a bit loud. The wine storage is so cool as a back drop, too. The final bit was a tiny sample of the adult milkshake and that luscious apple tart. I can still taste it. Yum. Go and enjoy.
The food was great. We started with crab cakes which were breaded and deep fried with a tangy slaw. They were tiny, but very good. For it main course we both chose almond crusted red snapper with brown butter and a Meyer lemon foam. It was done perfectly. We had a side of fried Mac and cheese with this. It was good as far as Mac and cheese go, the fried shell are a nice texture. For desert we decided upon the caramel popcorn cheese cake. Amazing. The only thing I had issue with was the portion sizes. The beautiful presentation did not quite warrant the price for what we were given. I will go back however. Just need to get more side dishes.
I've dined at Reef several times, each time trying different appetizers, entrees and desserts. The food has been consistently excellent and the service as well. Entrees can be ordered as per the chef's intent or "simply" for those wanting less complexity and calories. The entire menu is ever changing, so even those who dine there often will not tire of the menu.
Reef never disappoints! My favorite thing about Reef is the daily change of available fish selection. It makes each visit more interesting knowing you're always going to get something different than the last time you visited. The service is always on point too. If you want great seafood go to Reef!
Came here with a friend. The food was just ok. Nothing was bad - it just wasn't great either. Had the salmon (that was actually closer to bad), the tuna poke (that was pretty good), calamari (not so good), and snapper main course (which was also just ok). This restaurant has been around for quite some time - and definitely expected something more.
