I've had poor service here before so only made the reservation because it was for a friend's party and it's her favorite place. Service was lousy as usual. The restaurant was nearly empty but we rarely saw our server. Two of us ordered hamburgers cooked medium and received essentially raw hamburgers with a sear on the outside. Staff forgot repeatedly to bring us condiments we requested. I think it took three requests to receive ketchup.
My husband and I decided to go here for happy hour one night. I got there before him and sat at the bar to have a glass of wine. I ordered the fried pickles to start. They were delish! Cisco, the bartender, introduced himself and made me feel right at home.
When my husband arrived, the bartender also introduced himself to him and convinced us to stay at the bar instead of head to our table. So we did. Not only were the drinks he made delish, but so was the food he recommended was as well. My husband got the chicken dish, which was to-die-for and I got the White-bean veggie burger, which is by far the best in Bethesda.
Cisco talked up everything on the menu and it was clear he really enjoys his job. It was very nice to see. We will be going back to redwood to try out more of the food, and certainly get more of the yummy cocktails. I would def recommend this place for the Happy hour.
Although the service was great and the ambiance comfortable, the food was mediocre and the portions way too small. The $26 fish entree had a small piece of fish, a bit of potato and that was it. The menu was also surprising limited. We brought a friend there and were embarrassed by how unexciting the food was. I now know why it was available for a last-minute reservation.
Good food and good environment. Host was friendly & seated us right away. We had a res, but didn't need it since place was nearly empty when we got there. Highlight of the evening was our server, Megan, who was great! Excellent, friendly personality and a bit funny. Gave good recommendations, on food and drink, and seemed to know the drinks very well. She's also a bar tender, and seemed to be a regular, so was a great resource.
Appetizers were very tasty. My shrimp tacos were great, though portion was not really large enough for a meal if someone were hungry.
I was hopeful the food would be good if I ordered something simple. I had read many negative reviews about the quality of the food. Unfortunately, even the simple fish taco was surprisingly bad. The salmon was dry and was sour which affected the whole taste of the taco. The brussel sprouts were good. What drew us to Redwood was the ample outdoor seating. But I won't dine here again because the food is not tolerable. I don't understand why the restaurant can't improve the food. There have been far too many comments about the food and you'd think they'd listen.
I have to give kudos to management of Redwood for fixing a small error by the waitstaff. I ordered a lamb slider and was given a short rib slider. Though it was good, it wasn't what I wanted or asked for and I thought perhaps I'd made a mistake in reading the menu. When I inquired the manager not only comped what I had eaten, but also gave me a to go order of what I actually ordered in the first place which was far better than what I was served. Sometimes honest mistakes will cause me to never return somewhere given all the options available, but this extra effort to fix the issue will make me return to Redwood.
I've been to Redwood on several occasions and always like returning. The food is consistently delicious and prepared and served well. The restaurant was not crowded during this most recent visit so conversation was easy. It was also a lovely evening so the windows to the restaurant were open which was delightful. I would definitely recommend Redwood!
The food wasn't very flavorful with the exception of the Gnocchi and the Gluten Free Chocolate Cake which were fantastic. The service was not bad and the wine was good. I'm glad we went during restaurant week because I would have been disappointed with the food paying full price.
I have always wanted to go to Redwood as i walk past it everyday on the way to work. So with being restaurant week, I figured this was the perfect time to go. Had a reservation for 7: 15 and I got there about 7:09. I was quickly seated outside which was very nice. My server Matt was with another table, so a nice bald gentleman took my appetizer order. The calamari. Which you would think okay that's pretty standard but nope not theirs. They were hot and crunchy, fried hard which i love. Then they are mix with sauce and banana peppers. Now prior to this I had never had banana peppers with calamari or at all for that matter. BUt now that's the only way I want them. By now Matt has come over and introduced himself and was very helpful in me making a second selection. The Salmon with a shrimp succotash!!! Now I have never been one to like lima beans BUT Redwood changed that! Between the salmon and the succotash it was too good. I happily cleaned my plate. Then for dessert, I had the mango cheesecake with a chocolate crust. WHATTT?!?!?!? That made my inner fat kid very happy. Three of my favorites all together what's better than that. I tell you, eating that on Thursday evening watching people walk by and enjoying themselves while you enjoy yourself at Redwood. I have told ever and any one who will listen about how good my experience was. I will be back for sure!!!!
The food was decent for the price, however when we first arrived, our silverware and all of our glasses were dirty. When one of our diners ordered tea her mug was dirty as well. The wait staff was very attentive, and a couple of us ordered biscuits on the side because we all ordered the short rib hash, and we weren't charged extra which was nice. The decor is nice, and the food was tasty.
Unfortunately, there isn't much to say about this restaurant. I chose it for its convenience and location within Bethesda Row as it looked interesting from the alleyway. Upon entering it, the atmosphere and ambience were nice, but everything else was lacking. The wait staff was poor at best and the food was middle of the road. It was a Wednesday evening, so I wouldn't expect it to be jumping, but it was dead (clearly everyone knew something I did not). I cannot say I recommend this place as there are so many other options in the Bethesda area.
The restaurant was empty - which created lackluster ambiance. I ordered Bronzino - it was presented as a whole-fish. I asked if it could be filleted - was told the kitchen did not like to do this. The fish took the whole plate - so it was difficult to fillet, I was not given an extra plate for the bones/head, or a decent knife.
My dear friend and her family came to visit Washington and we took them out to dinner at Redwood because I thought it would be a nice experience. I had called for us to be seated at a table near the window; they never did that despite there being space. I also had to request for a high chair several times when we got seated even though I noted this when I called. My friend ordered a drink that the trainee bartender did not get right the first time. The service was overall mediocre at best; it didn't make any sense because the restaurant was not very busy. I was a bit embarassed for choosing this spot for this special occasion😣
Had a wonderful time on a Sunday for my wife's birthday. Had 10 people and at 6:00 I was surprised not to see almost anyone else there (I suppose most were sitting outside in their spacious patio seating).
Only problem was one of the servers delivering food knocked my wine glass over and didn't stay to clean it up or even return to do so. But our waitress and others chipped in. Perhaps he was too embarrassed? :)
But they made it right and we enjoyed ourselves and the great food.
With eight people, we got to try a lot of different items on the menu. Cheese and Charcuterie and the kale salad were delicious. Drinks were yummy too. The chicken was really dry though. I was expecting a full chicken breast and it was really cutlet. The same chicken came with the risotto. 2 of us ended up getting the chicken and another on the risotto. The other main dish items were good but not great.
The food also took a really long time and the restaurant was not packed. The outdoor area was open but there were a number of tables empty in the restaurant. We weren't in a rush and I am pretty patient, but we were there for 2+ hours and we didn't have dessert. I was ultimately really disappointed.
The highlight was that it was a lovely evening and the front of the restaurant has entire glass wall that opens. It really is a lovely setting. I just wish the food matched the ambiance.
