Fifty feet from Carnegie Hall, near Central Park and convenient to all midtown hotels, the Redeye takes its name from the infamous late-night flight linking America's two cultural hubs. The flavors of the two coasts are fused in both the grand cafe's interior design and the bold New American menu.
Redeye Grill Ratings and Reviews
Took my husband’s client from Hawaii and she loved the avocado crab salad, but wished it had a little bit of lettuce to lighten it up. Burgers and fries were enjoyed by the guys, especially the vegetarian offering for my husband. The poke bowls were a hit with other members of our party. Most everyone gobbled up the roasted Brussels sprouts. Filet mignon with peppercorn sauce was cooked perfectly, but for that price I would have expected at least a nice green vegetable on the plate at no extra cost. We had a great booth by the window on a rainy night, but the temperature was warm and cozy. The chocolate tidbit at the end on the way out was a delightful surprise and definitely a nice touch. The live music elevated the noise level a bit, but the performer was very good, and even the client commented she enjoyed the singer. It was a little strange no one offered to take our coats and umbrellas on such a rainy night, and we had to put them behind us above the booth. Otherwise, the service was outstanding; our drinks were replenished and my Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay was a perfect choice. (I ordered it before I decided on the filet!)
The table was ready timely for our reservation. The ambiance is upscale elegant and inviting. My husband and I had dined here on a previous trip, and I remembered the restaurant from the unique artistic murals on the walls and columns. They definitely set this atmosphere apart from other New York City Grilles.
I would definitely recommend this white tablecloth grille for business entertainment. We were not rushed even though it was near closing time. Seating was comfortable and an ample choice of tables, booths and banquetttes seemed available. Lighting was appropriate. It is also a perfect venue for celebrating a family occasion or an intimate dinner for 2. The birthday sparkler dessert accompanied by the Happy Birthday song sung for a “perfect stranger” brought a chuckle to our table and is something we will remember.
Had not been to the restaurant in a few years. Every time I've been before I had a good meal and a happy experience. This time the food was good, drinks good, but the waiter seemed to have not really cared about our table. Things took too long (drinks, etc.) as I noticed him ignoring our table to go to other tables to do things that could wait. I waited tables in my youth and I know how a restaurant works and I know when a waiter is not paying attention to the table, and in once instance when I had ask him for the third time (and not in a rude, demanding way) to get something for us because he had forgotten, he gave me "real attitude" like it was my fault for asking.
Reservations were a breeze online. Was most helpful since out of towners were assembling for a concert and had no true semblance of New York mid-town nightlife hysteria/congestion, let alone in the Theatre District. Everyone was seamlessly efficient and handsomely appointed in their duties. Food qualtiy, delivery time and presentation were special footnotes of the evening. A swift seating and swift exit. An unexpected spacial respite from the buzz of mid-town Manhattan. Definitely a solid recommendation.
We were wowed by the maître d and how friendly and attentive he was. Love that he walked by the restaurant with trays of freshly baked and delicious cookies and gave it to guests. Great touch! Also the dark chocolate and almond treats at the host stand was a super plus.
The food was very good and fresh but took a while to come considering it was lunch time. Our waiter was just ok, not super friendly but not rude either. Maybe because it was lunch time and he was too busy he didn’t give us much of attention. We sat with empty plates for about 10 minutes before him or anyone came over to take them away.
Despite that, I would definitely come back to Redeye.
Late night dinner after a Broadway show. A short walk from the theater.
Live music created a nice atmosphere.
Food was tasty, cooked as ordered.
Server informed us of kitchen closing soon after delivering our food (10pm reservation) we were not planning on ordering additional items, but the heads up avoided disappointment.
I recommend the Redeye.
As usual, great food in a great environment! Service was generally very good, however, we had to keep asking for water. Not sure why no one noted the empty glasses. Otherwise, everything was perfect - loved my cobb salad with lobster; and my husband loved his salmon. My wine was also a great selection. Our server did a great job. Thanks!
It's been a while since my last visit here and I can't understand why it took so long to return. It's a large restaurant but the space is divided up nicely so it feels much more intimate and the noise level is low.
The entire staff is friendly, attentive and professional. The restaurant specializes in fish and steaks. For appetizers one of us had the fried calamari which was tender and not at all greasy. I had the daily soup special which was a chick pea soup. It was delicious. The other two in our party had a baby kale salad and a chopped salad. Both of them were very pleased
My entree was the Chilean Sea-bass, cooked tender and delicious. The other entrees were the Ahi Tuna & Yellowtail Roll, Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna and the Filet Mignon. All of us agreed that our meals were superb. For dessert we all shared an excellent strawberry cheesecake, a delicious and huge slice of chocolate cake and a wonderful sorbet.
A fantastic pre theatre dinner! Beautiful setting, Our server Scott expertly guided us through the menu and wine list. Making suggestions and answering our questions. In a busy pre theatre rush he paced our meal perfectly assuring we had plenty of time to enjoy the incredibly prepared food and have plenty of time to make our show. Entire staff was professional, fun and engaging. Richard, Theodora and Kelli create an atmosphere of fun cheer and hospitality! All three connected with our group making us feel like family at home! A great kick off to the holidays! THANK YOU!
My husband, son, daughter-in-law, 2 grandchildren (ages 6 & 8), and I had reservations for dinner following the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. When we arrived we were seated promptly in a booth that seats 6 comfortably. The menu looked amazing! The waiter was able to accommodate the children's request for pasta in butter sauce! The adults found many entrees that looked tempting. Our drink order was taken and after our waiter served the drinks he took our dinner orders. The restaurant was packed! There is a piano bar with a divine performer. Her selections of music were outstanding and she entertained our grandchildren while we waited for dinner. Our dinner was served promptly and everything was delicious. Then our waiter disappeared! We could not find him anywhere! We were unable to order another round of drinks and we had to ask another waiter if he would give us our check. What was that about?? How could a restaurant that fine have an inattentive waiter? I know they were busy during Thanksgiving, but that is no excuse for lousy service. My children wanted to return but I refused because of the horrible service!!
