Great food, sat outside and enjoyed a nice evening in New York weather wise for October. Destiny was our server, fantastic, attentive. Several people stopped by our table checking to ensure everything was to our liking. Food was great, the dancing shrimp is a must, I had it as my entree. Banana cream pie is incredible as well. You won't be sorry if you go.
We had been there before. Nothing special
Service was slow - I think the kitchen was shorthanded - our waiter did his best with our table of 7...
Regarding the food - I think most everyone was satisfied, but I had one of the "house specialities" - beef bourguignon - and it was relatively tasteless with very little sauce. Maybe an off night. We were celebrating a birthday, however, and the birthday girl had a great time.
What a great place!!! We were greeted with a glass of champagne. Food was great and service awesome!
The food and service were excellent! I would definitely come back when I visit NYC again.
We love going there for lunch and dinner. It’s beautiful and has a great menu. The food is delicious but the service could be better. Once you order they forget about you. It’s a great place to go if your not in a rush.
From the time I was greeted by Richard through our lovely window table dinner with Reniti; we could not have been more pleased. Our fish dinners were perfectly prepared; service was exemplary and the atmosphere just lovely. Everyone who works there has such charm and grace; we can’t wait for another concert at Carnegie Hall so we can return to the Red Eye Grill! What a wonderful spot with great food and a wonderful staff!
Great dinning experience
Been there many times before staff needs refresher course on their duties
The food was very good. We had the cod and jumbo lump crab cake with shrimp. The cod was a little small but perfectly cooked and tasty. The crab cake was delicious but I was disappointed that it was made of shredded crab. I was definitely expecting lumps of crab meat instead of shredded crab.
We also had a major problem with service that night. We were seated at a table next to tje window which was nice. Our waiter was very friendly. He took our drink and food order and everything came out in a timely manner. However, that was the last time we saw him. We had one diet soda and one glass of riesling the entire night. Never asked if we wanted a refill of either. Another waiter that was serving tables nearby noticed we had been done eating dinner for quite some time and cleared our table for us and gave us the dessert menu. We turned down dessert and just sat there for another long period while watching our waiter expeditiously serve tables on a lower level of the restaurant. Eventually he made eye contact with us and came over to ask if we wanted anything else. Of course, by that time, all we wanted was the check and to leave.
In all fairness, it appears that the waiter was moved to another section of the restaurant after we were seated and waited on by him. He just clearly forgot we were there. Also, all the other waiters seem to be on top of their game and no one else appeared to be left waiting. Because of this I would never set foot in this restaurant again; however, I do think this was a one off and would encourage others to give it a try.
Unfortunately, it was my spouse's birthday and dinner was an epic fail but we had a blast in NYC the remainder of the night!
The perfect spot for a leisurely breakfast!
Awful service. We showed up at 8.30am for our breakfast reservation - this was a business meeting. The manager was the one serving us. She gave us coffee and menus and then disappeared. We finished our coffees and no one came to take our orders for food or even refill our coffee. We saw a waiter and asked him about it but he just muttered and send the manager to us again. She took our orders and refilled our coffee. Around 9.15am we still hadn't received our food. We inquired about it and the manager came back to tell us there was a paper jam so our orders didn't go through. She promised that she would have it for us in 5 mins if we reordered. We did so. Finally at 9.30am we decided to leave some cash for the coffee and leave.
There was couple next to us who waited for 20 mins with no coffee or any service. They asked us incredulously whether we had just ordered because clearly we were there much earlier than them. Even though the manager saw them she didn't bother to ask them anything when she came to try to fix our snafu. They ended up leaving before us without being served anything or anyone even coming to say hello or offer coffee.
Lukcily, the business meeting was with an old acquaintance. To say the least it was embarrassing as the host.
Not somewhere I would ever go again.
The ambiance, the host, the waiter and bus staff: all fine. What wasn’t was the food which sounded better than it tasted. Very disappointing.
This was close by our hotel and recently opened. Unfortunately they were out of their main chicken dish and the short ribs. My wife had a filet and I had the branzino. Both were cooked well. The service could have been quicker considering it was not crowded on a Monday night. Growing pains.
Menu has shrunk since re-opening. Portions are almost half the size of pre-fire. A significant disappointment to someone who was a regular.
Not after thre terrible service. It was like ti was hos first day. He was rude and felt bothered. One entree came out way before all the others
I usallyike this place but i would not go back because I'd the service
Bad food and service.
Sunday brunch with friends. Arrived and table was ready. Staff was friendly and service was spot on. Steak was cooked perfectly.
My first Redeye Grill experience on Sunday September 29th, 2019 was absolutely marvelous. I had a lobster salad, fried calamari, hibiscus tea and carrot cake. Every meal was utterly delicious and fresh. The service was prompt, courteous and excellent. I look forward to coming back soon.
The place is huge and has kind of a fun décor, with a variety of areas to be seated, from the main dining room, to a more loungey area, to the bar (and outside in the right weather). It has a touristic vibe on the Saturday night I was there, but during the week it gets more of a mix of business locals and out of towners. The seafood is fresh, the seasonings are well done, and the wine list has some surprisingly affordable higher end items. It won't knock your socks off but it is a good place.
Even though the staff work hard to make sure the diner is happy, there are issues of timeliness and accuracy of orders. My friend's burger arrived without bacon, despite the fact that he made a point of asking for it specifically. His soup arrived in a very small bowl which looked somewhat sad on the bare tablecloth beneath. The food was fine. The croutons in my Caesar's salad were not made of actual toasted bread but rather of some strange bread-mix, formed into cubes. The salad itself (greens and anchovies) were fine. My sushi roll was fine, too. It is the speed of service that is problematic. You can't go here and expect to make it for curtain time unless you come very early. We arrived at 5pm for a 7pm curtain and made it just in time. The place was very quiet at 5. Despite that, our dishes took quite a while to arrive. We didn't have dessert so I can't report on those. The space is pleasant. The kitchen needs to be organized better and proper 'real' bread needs to be served in place of the wiener-looking - and dry - bread rolls that were actually served.
Food great. service -inattentive. Come on Redeye, get it together.
The guys are awesome!
Delicufood and great service!
Today’s breakfast was exceptional! We thank you for the professional, engaging and friendly service.
The food was out of this world! The mimosas were DYNAMITE!!
The Alaskan king crab is always my favorite choice and the customer service is great.
Awesome first time experience, service was outstanding. I would absolutely go back and highly recommend Redeye.
I LOVE Fireman restaurants. My favorite is Trattoria Del Arte, but I love Bond 45 and Cafe Fiorello.
My night at the newly renovated Redeye Grill was awful. It took 1 hr for me to get my salad and meal. Had a 6PM reservation because we were going to a Broadway show. We didn’t get anything to eat until 7. Our waiter was very nice but there was nothing he could do because there was no food. Everyone apologized but no food. I don’t mind spending the money but not for a terrible night. I’m a repeat customer at Trattoria Del Arte and I love it. If you’re in the area stay away from Redeye Grill.
It's so wonderful to have Redeye Grill back. It's better than ever. The room is gorgeous and the food and service are terrific. I had the nice green salad, the scallops and the banana cream pie for dessert. A perfect meal and a perfect evening.
Best outdoor dining
Sadly, while we were very excited to know that Redeye had reopened the food was no where near as good as it used to be. Neither of our meals was very good. Also, unlike many restaurants that made modifications to the recipes to adjust for gluten and dairy allergies, they merely with held the sauce so that the salmon was a bit dry and fairly tasteless. My dining partner has the crab cakes and they were also a disappointment.
On a Monday night the restaurant accepts reservations until 11:00pm. Our reservation was at 10:30pm, and it was not a minute after we were seated that the panicked waiter started to rush us, first saying that if we wanted anything shellfish, they were out of everything. We saw the staff cleaning out the oysters at the bar. They had plenty. No shrimp, no oysters, no crab, no lobster, the waiter repeated rapidly. Everything had been eaten apparently! Sure. Furthermore he could not take our cocktail order unless we put in the main course orders in. The kitchen was especially waiting for us. What a favour they were doing us! We complied since we didn’t want to be looking for another late dinner place in the area. I insisted on a fresh oyster appetizer and a shrimp cocktail for my dining partner. The waiter left the table huffing a puffing as if the raw bar staff was about to murder him. We got the cocktails and the appetizers at the same time, with a mention that the entrees were coming in a minute. The oysters and the shrimp cocktail were fine, but the two pasta dishes with clams were horrible; dry, insipid and tepid. Laying down the entrees on the table made the waiter very happy because he was “finished.” There were other tables still busy with clients. They seemed to be fine, but they all were on their second coffee. The Redeye Grill has been a favourite lunch place for years, and I was happy to return for dinner after they were closed for renovations. I doubt I will return for dinner. Perhaps once more at the bar for lunch to see if things are different but I’m not holding my breath. Too bad!
Excellent food and service. A great neighborhood restaurant
Glad REG has reopened. It looks great, service wonderful. The hostess lovely and made us feel welcomed back. We live a block away and will be back often. Love the food too!
I’ve eaten at the red eye grill twice in the past month and enjoyed it both times. I had the crab cake with corn and shrimp the last time I was there and loved it!!
I’d like to mention also our waiter was so good! He was entertaining as well as extremely efficient!
I will return!
This is our first visit back to the Redeye Grill since its reopening. And it is the first time that we were not fully satisfied with our dining experience. While our server was most personable and knowledgeable, he was obviously over-assigned on the evening of our visit. And we do believe the bar staff was overwhelmed, as well. We waited 20 minutes for our four drinks to be made and delivered. We even watched our waiter mixing a drink on the customer side of the bar for another table. No one ever came over to check on our satisfaction after our entrees were delivered. At the end of our evening, we waited almost a half hour for our waiter to return to the table after we had finished our desserts. We were disappointed with both the dancing shrimp - no coconut flavor whatsoever and cooked with both the head and tail on - and the coconut cake - very dry, somewhat stale. We hope the issues of that visit can be resolved since we have been coming to the Redeye since 2005 and hate the thought of never coming again.
Great hidden gem for a quiet breakfast meeting
This restaurant has been one of my NYC faves for a long time. Hadn’t been since the reopening, but was happy to see they are still offering top notch service and amazing food.
Just love everything about this place. Due to my work I usually arrive late in New York and I was so fortunate to find this gem close by my hote.
