Redd is always the best restaurant we visit in Napa! When we try the other, new "hot" restaurants, we are typically disappointed.
Food and service was exceptional. Very chic
Delightful lunch on the patio. Although very attractive, beware of the birds overhead! Meals were delicious, combining fresh and original flavor combinations. Desserts are fantastic! Staff is friendly and welcoming.
Was very disappointed in the service. Party of 4 guests on a Sunday evening. Greeting, menu review and initial drinks were fine. Then we were forgotten about. After the first course was dropped, we did not see a server at all until we had completely finished - no check back on food quality. 3 of 4 were great. Unfortunately, my rissotto was overcooked and the plate was so hot that the butter and oil was separating from the rice.
Entrees were served and there was one check back on the table at approximately 4 minutes. While my skate was excellent the potatoes accompanying it were below room temperature.
We had to ask the sommolier to decant the red and he seemed bothered to have been asked.
Overall fine, but not outstanding.
One of the top 3 meals that I can recall in my lifetime. An outstanding experience. Excellent 5 course prefix w/wine pairings. Not stuffy, down to earth, great service/food/wine.
Went for Sunday brunch had pork buns, smoked salmon, asparagas soup, shared the NY steak entree and finished with peanut butter trio. The food was good. Pork buns were on the salty side and presented like a soft taco - filling on top of the "bun". The salmon came with a pile of bread covering it on the plate, odd presentation. The asparagas soup was very thick and brilliant green - had a grassy/uncooked flavor. The NY steak was remarkably small for nearly $30 the onion rings with it were spongey and the creamed spinach a tad bitter. The peanut butter trio was OK, it was recommended by our waiter as the best from their James Beard awarded chef - we expected something spectacular....it was OK, not spectacular tho.
We have now visited Redd 4 or 5 times and continue to be delighted with the experience -- it is perfect in every way. The four of us opted for the 4-course tasting menu with wine pairing. While the service and food presentation are wonderful, it is the combinations and flavors that will always have us returning: Sashimi of yellowfin tuna. Carmelized diver scallops (wow!). Braised beef shortribs. We especially enjoy that two people are served one menu, the other two people receive a different menu. That way, each couple has the opportunity to "taste" eight items, not just four.
Our Saturday lunch was fantastic! Both of our entrees were exceptional. The paring of asparagus with poached egg was awesome!
Tasting menu was a treat. Very good food.
We are in complete agreement with the James Beard award for best pastry chef and the rest of the meal was wonderful also.
The food is absolutely delicious at Redd. Our server did an excellent job recommending wine pairings to go with each course of our meal. Our favorite plates of the night were the skate fish and the chocolate peanut butter dessert! The restaurant also acknowledged our anniversary by seating us at a nice, romantic table and writing "Happy Anniversary" on our dessert plates. It's the small touches like this that make a restaurant stand out above others and dining at Redd certainly was memorable. I highly recommend this restaurant to others.
Redd is a great restaurant. We have eaten there several times and always enjoy the food, service and ambience. The menu is varied and filled with excellent options. Every course - appetizer, entree and dessert - were excellent. The dining room is light and pleasant. I would recommend the restaurant without reservation.
We made a reservation to celebrate our anniversay & it couldn't have been more special. The Food was delightful, we requested a tasting menu & were each served different courses so that we could try a little of everything. The wine list was impressive & had a little bit of everything. I can't say enough about the service! Our waitress was absolutely wonderful! She was attentive without being instrusive, knowledgeable & incredibly pleasant. We loved it so much that we purchased a gift certificate for a Father's Day present & are already planning a return trip for dinner!
the food was great and the service even better. We had a wonder experience at Redd, and would definitely return
Redd is one of the best restaurants in the world. I have dined in top restaurants in London, Paris, Los Angeles, and Italy and Redd competes favorable with the best! The dishes are innovative. The duck breast and scallops were two of my favorites. The architecture is a beautiful minimalist style.
Outdoor seating was fine on a sunny but windy early afternoon. Wind was blowing considerable olive tree dropping on some tables. Service (Paul) was great, food was hit and miss, salad and appetizer were fine but the duck confit was more a winter dish, lentils (too many) made it heavy and lacked freshness of spring/summer fare (June). Being more selective on our behalf would have helped overall. Expensive with food and wine corkage, $25.
Redd provided the Worst dining experience my husband and I have ever had. Nearly every person we encountered who was working for the restaurant was rude and acted as us they were doing us a huge favor. The lady seating people was rude. The bartender was rude. The waiter was extremely rude and did everything he could to make our experience a bad one. After we waited 45 minutes for a table for which we had been on time for our reservation, he seated us and then said something like "you must think you're special." Then, he refused to bring us menus; we waited there another 15 minutes for menus before we actually got them. Then, our water was never refilled during the meal. Finally, the food was Average. It was a terrible experience.
We are definitely food people and couldn't wait to go to Redd based on all the wonderful reviews. The Hamachi appetizer was quite yummy. My vegetarian sister ordered the Huevos Rancheros (sans chorizo) and said it was "good". My boyfriend and I both ordered the Lobster Club and we were both terribly disappointed. It was basically ALL brioche with a tablespoon of warm, straggly lobster meat and some bacon. I ate one bite and put the whole thing down. My boyfriend says, "Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing." But my feeling is that there shouldn't be a "wrong thing" on the menu - especially NOT at a restaurant that receives such high marks. And I'm sorry but "good huevos" just aren't good enough.
Sunday brunch menu offered a nice selection of both breakfast oriented and lunch item. We were treated to a muse from the chef consisting of a breakfast pizza adorned with creamy scrambled eggs, salty capers and smoked salmon. Our entrees included lobster club sandwich, huevos rancheros, and filet steak topped with a fried egg. All were delicious with the only set backs being that the brioche bread used for the club was sliced very thick - making the sandwich challenging to navigate and the two sauces applied to the egg and steak dish were underseasoned. Desert was a chocolate trio that is the signature dessert of the pastry chef.....who we were told is a James Beard award winner! The desert was certainly a winner.
Food was very good but was very dissapointed in service. Waitor was not attentive at all & left us waiting to order in the first place & again for desert. We waited far too long for the bill.
If you don't know Richard Reddington, it's time you do. This is perhaps the best price/performance you'll find on the NorCal circuit.
We loved Redd, the food was great but more important the Tyler the waiter was outstanding.
Redd rivals any top restaurant in Napa Valley! An outstanding experience from start to finish. Every dish is prepared with attention to detail and even more surprising the quantities are plentiful. We have been to Cyrus in Healdsburg, the General's Daughter in Sonoma (now closed), and think Redd is the BEST! We shared the Tuna Tartare appetizer, Rack of Lamb, Halibut w/Cajun spices, and apple crisp. Highly recommend this dining experience.
The food was outstanding, starting with the pork belly and asparagus soup. The clams with the John dory and jasmine rice was wonderful. Following this was the strawberries prepared two ways. This is now our annual anniversary restaurant, and several times in-between.
Imaginative menu, delicious food, and very knowledgeable and aware service!
Very cool atmosphere - great service, the food was great. Perfect place for a nice night out.
The food was great. The service should have been better in this area with so many great restaurants to choose from but it was good overall.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and chose Redd based on an article about Yountville restaurants in the New York Times. We arrived a little early and stopped at the bar, which offers some very tasty cocktails. We were seated right on time at a nice corner table. Since we'd never eaten at Redd, we chose the tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was excellent (including flawless sashimi, pork belly, lamb chop, and duck). The wines, selected from an impressive list, were perfectly paired with each dish. The service was attentive but unobtrusive. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. We agreed this was the best overall meal we have ever had.
We really enjoyed our lunch at Redd. My duck confit was perfect, and my husband really enjoyed his scallops. However, our server, who was good, polite, lost her interest in us after our entree arrived, and it took us at 10-15 min to get her attention to bring us the check, and when she did, and when we put down our card, she didn't return for another 10 min or so. So we had to wait for 20+ minutes to leave the place (we had no drinks left or anything). For that kind of highly rated restaurant, and the price tag, I expect better service than that. Service quality-wise, no place has beaten Restaurant Eve, in Alexandria VA.
Great, We shared small plates and got to taste great dishes!
Innovative menu that exposes disparate flavors and textures from across the globe. Some dishes are ambitious and came off too flavorful, e.g. salty, but impressive overall. Calamari was perfectly prepared, but the tammarind sauce was a bit overwhelming, this is where a drizzling as opposed to a resevoir of flavor would amply compliment the starter. The Yellow Fin tuna and Hamachi was a clean dish with a great texture of crunch interspurced. Main dishes included: short ribs were good, but lacked real slow cooked depth of flavor, the pizza with prosciutto and fontina was good and the hoison pork buns had good flavor, but way too salty. Dessert included their trio of chocolate and peanut and was well prepared, but not a must.
The food was awesome. We had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing which was $120 per person and were NOT disappointed. Since their was two of us, the chef gave each of us a different dishes so in the end we both got to sample 10 dishes and wines. The scallops and pork belly are by far the best items on the menu.
The only criticisms I have are that it was very noisy and that the service felt rushed.
I'm telling you. This is HANDS DOWN, my favorite restaurant of all time. There might be a slight bias since my seratonin levels were going crazy from proposing to my Fiancee earlier in the day.
Nonetheless, service - food - price, EVERYTHING was awesome!
We ate well all week in Napa, but this place was definitely top of our list. Dessert is an absolute MUST! Staff was helpful in helping us pick an amazing wine to go with dinner. Will definitely plan a trip back at some point again.
Late week-day lunch. Quite, open atmosphere. Our wait person was wonderful: knowledgeable, but friendly and quiet about her business. Food was a very good buy, and our service, from our entrance to our exit, was most welcoming.
We already plan to return.
To celebrate our anniversary we wanted a special dining experience. We had the wine pairing menu which did indeed make the meal a memorable one. We enjoyed all the courses that were different for both of us enabling us to taste each others dishes as well. As a result we did leave feeling very full. The wines were interesting, and the pace was just right. I had asked for a quiet, corner table, which we were given. It was an added plus that we were given a list of the wines served with the meal since it was difficult remembering the names of the paired wines.
The tasting menu was absolutely incredible. Every bite was a amazing and the wine pairings were perfect. I would recommend the tasting menu every time - it's surprising and delicious!!
Best lunch I had during my entire vacation to Napa and the Bay Area for both the price and quality of food.
My husband and I had a fantastic meal. We highly recommend the tasting menu. Next time we will do the wine pairing(had too much wine already wine tasting.)
Fabulous meal on all counts. Great food, wonderful service and a very cool/chic vibe. We loved it.
I had the John Dory and it was divine. Berkshire Port and short rib tortelini are also great picks.
Try the Thyme and Punishment cocktail--wonderful mix of herbs and spices, sweet and acidic!!!
