Redd Wood Ratings and Reviews
We had a terrible dining experience. First, we arrived 15 min. early & were told our table would soon be ready, so we informed the hostess we were going to the bar to wait. After 20 minutes I checked with the hostess. She had bypassed our 7:45 reservation & moved on to 8 p.m. reservations. However, she sat us fairly soon after that. The chopped salad we split was quite good. However, the pizza and pasta entrees we ordered were pretty so-so. After first turning down dessert, we decided to order an affogato for me and a scoop of ice cream for my husband. After 15 minutes, we asked our waiter to check on them. He said they were plating them. I waited another 10 minutes before asking to speak to a manager. He said he would see that we got our dessert right away & that he would comp them. Another fairly long lapse in time, and the manager delivered our ice cream desserts. He poured the expresso (or coffee) over a single very small scoop of ice cream and left to correct our bill. Unfortunately, the coffee was cold, which I pointed out to the manager when he returned. Now, how can anyone actually screw up an affogato? And wouldn't you think a restaurant would want to make it look a little more inviting? Maybe a little whipped cream or a coffee bean--anything? Such a disappointment after seeing a wonderful concert at the Lincoln Center. Not a great way to top off the evening!
My husband and I loved this place. My pizza was probably the best I've ever had. Green chorizo with jalapeño, corn, arugula and a fresh farm egg on top! Yum! Excellent meatballs and pasta as well. Service spectacular! Just one little note.. the chicken roulade was explained as having "fresh herbs". When it came out it was loaded with tarragon. Both my parents ordered this and it overpowered the dish. It wasn't bad, just too much. My Dad tried my pizza and kicked himself for not ordering it. I let him have the rest.
Our server Ericka was sullen and rude from the start, don't know if she was having a bad day or what, but it really ruined our dining experience. The restaurant was also really hot and seated us with a broken chair...when we told them, they just moved it to the next table. The pizza and the octopus salad were good, but probably won't go back- too many other good places to choose from.
I always love this place when I am in Napa. The food is consistently delicious. Overall, the service was good, but Our server didn't check on us after we received our appetizer. Other staff checked on us during our appetizer and we asked for another piece of bread for our burrata and it never came. Next time we saw our server was when she gave us our check. It's fine if others are helping, but she should ultimately ensure we have what we need. That was disappointing.
Worst experience ever. So disappointing for Yountville. Wine list was awful. The Burrata looked like cottage cheese with olive oil drizzled on it. We specifically asked if the pizzas could feed two people and we were told no. Upon receiving our now individual pizzas we were blown away because they were huge! We each had one piece. Also, mine was beyond salty. I literally had sores in my mouth the next day. I ordered a pinot which was worse that Charles Shaw at Trader Joes, sent it back (kindly!) and the waitress was so annoyed with me she sent the manager over to "deal" with me. It was rude and embarrassing. I had the manager pick the wine and of course I got the most expensive one on the menu!! Was so bummed but it was made up for the next day when we went to the Fremont Diner and has good old diner food :)
Our second visit to Redd Wood and even better than the first. The food was perfection, service great and atmosphere casual yet fun. If you want a relaxed, non-stuffy, non-eccentric menu in wine country, this place fits the bill. It's quite a challenge to be a vegetarian in Napa Valley but we've always been able to find great choices here!
We ordered a small pizza and an Arugula salad with Green Goddess Dressing. Both were outstanding...particularly the salad.
A bit noisy, given that the busy bar was separated from the dining room by a glass partition.
The service was OK and a bit dispassionate. We had a 7:00 reservation and were seated promptly...but the wait staff removed our plates as we tasted our last bite. Overall, we felt hurried. We left the restaurant at 7:40.
We were visiting the area and researching local restaurants with good reviews. Redd Wood looked like a good option for a casual Sunday night Italian meal. We brought our own Italian wine and shared our meal. The fritto misto was a great antipasti. We enjoyed the spaghetti "Cacio e Pepe" which was fresh and delicious. Our secondi was the chicken roulades which were juicy and tender. We chose the cannoli trio for dessert paired with a glass of Elio Perrone Moscato and an expresso. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. It was a very enjoyable meal in the wine country.
Not going back. After a bad experience at this restaurant a few months ago, I decided to give it another chance. The last time I was there I never got to eat my pizza because after waiting for 45 min, I left. This time I did receive the pizza. I ordered the four cheese pizza and it did not have a good ratio of toppings to crust. They also served us warm water and I had to ask for ice and then he never came back to check on us or offer us any refills.
It was 110 degrees outside during the heatwave. The restaurant did not have the air on and it was intolerable. The food was ok. I have no idea what the hype was. We had to box our entree and leave. Our personality less waitress left us mid service. We wondered if she was fired as her demeanor would have matched that. We had the chopped salad, misto fritto and white pizza. Regret our choice - so many other restaurants we wish we chose.
Service was subpar; our waiter seemed more interested in the table of 8 seated nearby, rather than the 2 of us. He did not offer us any specials or recommendations for food or drink. We had had the 4 cheese & the orignal mozzarella, it was average. Bottom crust was super soggy. Surprisingly, the cheese plate & warm olives appetizer was the most delicious part of meal. Doubt I'll return when visiting Napa again.
