About Red The Restaurant & Wine Boutique
The people Red attracted, they were the inspiration. The patrons of a wine boutique turned out to be people who were open to the finer experiences.
What a pleasure to fulfill their interests in fine food, good company and quality service. In rising to those requirements we found Red had become a restaurant, unique in its focus on the pleasure of an evening.
Wine was the starting point. Beyond the snobbery that once surrounded wine in America, Red let’s you explore, enjoy and fulfill your interest, your own way, using a serving instrument that’s unique to our region.
Please consider this your own invitation to join us for an evening soon.

Red The Restaurant & Wine Boutique Ratings and Reviews
I am trying to think of another word that is better than OUTSTANDING. Chef Heath, along with his excellent staff--Gerry, our hostess, and Christie, our server--offers a very professional service and an authentic ambiance, amounting to a total dining experience. The delightful dinner entrees will make anyone happy, especially when accompanied by one of the fine suggested wine choices--a superb concept! While enjoying your meal, listening to the soothing music provided by Armand DeMille will only add to your contentment. Forget your diet and treat yourself to an array of elegantly prepared desserts.
Now, back to that word--OUTSTANDING. I still cannot think of a better word to describe this FANTASTIC restaurant. I will return soon and make another attempt!
This is the third time we have eaten at Red, and the food and service have been outstanding every time. We went with friends for dinner on Thursday night, when there was a singer on a guitar. While we enjoyed the music, and the singer was very good and friendly, going to each table to ask for requests, the restaurant is small making it difficult to carry on a conversation during the performance. If the performer's sound level could be reduced, it would be ideal. Regardless, we will return for the food.
Great little place that you’d pass by if you didn’t know about it. Excellent food- try the lamb. The chef is from New Zealand and it’s fantastic. You can buy a bottle of wine off their wine wall to have with dinner. Check this place out. It won’t disappoint!
This is becoming a favorite dining spot. Always have a large selection of wines. In addition, one can sample any number of wines in their various stations, by using their wine card. Always a lot of fun. While the menu is not extensive, the selections change every few months, and even the old favorites are changed up for variety. The food is always good and presentation is good. The staff are quite friendly and down to earth.
We had an excellent experience with The Red. Started off with our server, Laura. She was fantastic throughout. The food was excellent. My wife had the Veal Chop special and I had the seared salmon. Both dishes were superb. We highly recommend this restaurant and we will be back.
Service here is excellent, and the wine machines are a fun way to try different wines. The food, however, was pricey and flavorless. I had the beef short ribs in a bread bowl - It was one large short rib on top of a roll which it dwarfed. Really strange - Why call it a bread bowl?? The short rib was very tender, but devoid of flavor. My husband had lamb which he ordered medium - It was well-done, and also flavorless. He said it was one of the worst lamb dishes he's ever had. It was $36.00. Our dinner companions had the veal special and salmon. The veal was reportedly tough and tasteless. The salmon was cooked medium, as ordered, and reportedly tasted good, so the only meal out of the 4 that was acceptable. The bill was over $200.00 for 4 meals, wine and bruschetta appetizer that was very good. We will not return - There are too many choices in this area to settle for expensive, flavorless cuisine.
Always incredible food, great chef from New Zealand, inventive dishes or choose your own cheeses and meats into a nice platter and just enjoy the wide array of high quality wines. This is a hidden gem with the nicest people, the most attentive service and the opportunity to sample a lot of wines in small amounts while you look for that perfect tasting. The New Zealand rack of lamb is unbelievable but the chef's specials also deliver. The most recent was Maine Lobster in Ravioli. Whoa!
We met some friends visiting Hilton Head at RED for dinner. We had a great time tasting a big variety of wines. Shared the Escargot appetizer and got into a few bottles of an awesome French Minervois red wine blend.
The chef's special Veal Chop entree, the wild-caught Scottish salmon and a couple entree salads followed. All wonderfully presented.
Our server was helpful and bright. A great evening !
We went on spur of the moment. Was able to get a regular table. They also have high tables. I had beef and hubby had salmon. Both excellent. Shared a dessert as the waitress said it would feed two. She was right! Wine menu had great variety. The atmosphere was subdued and conversation at other tables could not be overheard. A wonderful place and would go again.
Had dinner with friends 10/28/17. Live fairly close by, but had not noticed it until seeing the restaurant in the Top Ten Restaurants in the Hilton Head /Bluffton area. We are glad we went. Started off with escargot (a dozen!) washed down with prosecco. Excellent. We than had the "red" Caesar salad (with some cherry tomatoes included). Then had the glazed duck with mashed potatoes & broccoli. Superb. Washed that down with some pinot noir (Simi). Both were very good. The chef (from New Zealand) and his wife (our waitress) came out, and we had an extended discussion. Very nice folks. Many other delectable looking dishes. We shall be back.
Red makes a good impression when you first walk in, a wall of wine, an interesting combination of high top and regular height tables and what looks like a private dining room at one end of property.
The wines by the glass were highlights of the lunch. Both were very drinkable and fairly priced. The soup would likely have been very good if they had backed off on the amount of spicy Italian sausage. It was so hot that I couldn't taste the rest of the ingredients nor my glass of Red without rinsing my mouth with cold water after every spoonful. The sandwich was too thick to use a knife and fork and too overflowing and oily to use your hands happily but it tasted ok.
My wife and I had a truly wonderful meal. We heard the chef is from New Zealand, so we both ordered the rack of lamb. The lamb was outstanding . . . very tender, flavorful and cooked to perfection, as were the accompanying veggies. We also tried the French onion soup at the recommendation of another diner. Also out of this world. An extensive but not daunting wine list. It is easy to try a variety of wines w/out breaking the bank. Service was excellent. Although located in a strip mall, the restaurant itself is a small, very pleasant venue; an appropriate setting for a nice dinner out / special occasions. Very reasonably priced given the food quality. Highly recommended for anyone in and around Hilton Head.
Everything about "Red" was fabulous. Two waitresses, one very quiet and gentle the other was
a bundle of enthusiasm. We will return soon and recommend it to friends. I thought the Bruschetta was the best I have ever had. My date loved the Salmon and I thought the Escargot was perfect. All in it was a five star event .
Come for the wine choices, where you can purchase a debit card and sample three different size pouring of top red and white wines approximating 50 selections. But you will leave in awe of the food. The chef, here from New Zealand is quite talented. Many nights there will be a special or two but either way, the rack of lamb, short ribs or salmon will definitely make you very happy. Coming early for unwinding with some wine samplers and a snack? Oh, the artisanal cheese and meat choices will wow you. Try it, you'll see!
We have never been disappointed at RED. The wine selection is excellent and priced within reason. The fact that you can select the size of your pour from the wine keeper is also notable.
The set menu is always enhanced by the daily specials. Whether we are there for lunch or dinner, it has always been a very pleasant experience.
Totally renovated earlier this year, the Red, The restaurant and Wine Boutique looks like a slice of Toscana once you enter. The chef, from New Zealand, is beyond incredible. From cheese plates to meat plates on to specials such as Veal Chops and local fish dishes, you will be pleasantly surprised. Yes, this IS a wine boutique and one of the best you will ever see. Get yourself a prepaid card and sample away. But in the end, when you leave, you will be saying "Wow! The Food Here Is Unbelievable!"
A pleasantly small venue, nicely appointed, we felt very comfortable there with a unique, & orderly system for wine lovers from tasters to full fledged drinkers....You are able to select your own wines from small tastes to full glasses choosing from 36 whites, & 36 reds ...The food was top notch & the service was excellent.
This is a great option for wine connoisseurs and foodies. The portions are generous. Expect to spend over $22 per entree and $8.00 and up for a 6-ounce glass of wine. There is also the fun option to do wine tastings. Appetizers run $11.00 and up . Because the portions are generous, you can make a meal out of them. We are partial to the escargot, mussels, cappucino and creme brulee. They also offer a wonderful selection of cheese plates.
This was our second visit and the renovations are very well done. Such a beautiful atmosphere for a nice intimate evening. We were greeted, seated on time and ordered from the new summer menu. My husband had the duck special and I had the bruschetta and avocado salad with shrimp and crab. What a wine selection! Our meals were very enjoyable and the chef came out to introduce himself. The staff was attentive and overall really enjoyed our experience. We will definitely be back!
I've been to RED for lunch and for dinner within this past week. First time since new ownership. Lunch was quite good however, service is very slow. Dinner was with 3 other couples. We reserved their 8 person dining room and that was perfect. Dinner menu is limited and was not very appealing to most of the men. Again, service was very slow. Having mentioned slow service I must add that the staff was very nice. My husband would not go back but I would for lunch but not for dinner (unless I want to eat alone!). I hope they will be successful and overcome their growing pains. Their on-site manager, Ginger, is an asset to the restaurant.
Sadly we can't give a good review. First impressions mean a lot and our first visit wasn't a good one. Our table was available and ready. It took, in our opinion, a bit too long to get our first round of drinks. We ordered appetizers to enjoy with our first drink. They arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Our next round of drinks arrived faster but our next food order was taking so long we decided to end our visit without further waiting. We were told there was one chef and he was working in a very small kitchen and, while he was doing his very best, it was a bit of a challenge to keep up. The dining room was full. The server and the manager were very apologetic, genuinely sincere, and adjusted our bill as a courtesy. We didn't ask them to do that because we had enjoyed our drinks and appetizers. Nonetheless, they did what they felt was necessary and also gave us a "wine card" to use on our next visit. Hopefully, we will return once we learn that the issue with the kitchen space is addressed.
