Red The Restaurant & Wine Boutique Ratings and Reviews
Just dropped in for some wine and cheese with friends. Bought a wine card and used it to taste various wines from their wine dispensers. This is a great concept for tasting a lot of wines you wouldn't normally get to taste. Ordered some cheese plates and their baked brie to go with the wine. Had previously eaten full meals here from their dinner menu and it was great.
Overall excellent! Special feature is the nitrogen powered collection of about 30 wines set up for sipping or drinking using an in house charge card! The chef visits each table weather for lunch or dinner to check on the meals. A giant bowl of mussels for $14 is outstanding!
Very nice restaurant in the Dollar Tree strip mall. Quite small. Limited but very good menu. Chef came out and asked how everything was. Cool concept of wine tasting, though I just went with a glass instead of the $20 card where you can taste various wines! Loved the singer/guitarist. Not too loud. Played soft rock.
This was a 1st time dining at The Red + had a great dinner.
There was a large selection of wine by the glass but we chose a bottle displayed on the racks on wall around the dining area. Most wines were unpriced but eventually was told the cost.
I had the seared shrimp + crab served in an avocado which was delicious.
My main course was the Scottish salmon over mushrooms + a grilled artichoke which was cooked perfectly.
Dessert was a bourbon pecan pie that was very large but great.
Didn’t realize it was for two but I’ll enjoy it for a few nights.
The chef, Heath Prosser spoke to us for awhile + was interesting to talk with.
The waitress were knowledgeable + friendly.
I am trying to think of another word that is better than OUTSTANDING. Chef Heath, along with his excellent staff--Gerry, our hostess, and Christie, our server--offers a very professional service and an authentic ambiance, amounting to a total dining experience. The delightful dinner entrees will make anyone happy, especially when accompanied by one of the fine suggested wine choices--a superb concept! While enjoying your meal, listening to the soothing music provided by Armand DeMille will only add to your contentment. Forget your diet and treat yourself to an array of elegantly prepared desserts.
Now, back to that word--OUTSTANDING. I still cannot think of a better word to describe this FANTASTIC restaurant. I will return soon and make another attempt!
This is the third time we have eaten at Red, and the food and service have been outstanding every time. We went with friends for dinner on Thursday night, when there was a singer on a guitar. While we enjoyed the music, and the singer was very good and friendly, going to each table to ask for requests, the restaurant is small making it difficult to carry on a conversation during the performance. If the performer's sound level could be reduced, it would be ideal. Regardless, we will return for the food.
Great little place that you’d pass by if you didn’t know about it. Excellent food- try the lamb. The chef is from New Zealand and it’s fantastic. You can buy a bottle of wine off their wine wall to have with dinner. Check this place out. It won’t disappoint!
This is becoming a favorite dining spot. Always have a large selection of wines. In addition, one can sample any number of wines in their various stations, by using their wine card. Always a lot of fun. While the menu is not extensive, the selections change every few months, and even the old favorites are changed up for variety. The food is always good and presentation is good. The staff are quite friendly and down to earth.
We had an excellent experience with The Red. Started off with our server, Laura. She was fantastic throughout. The food was excellent. My wife had the Veal Chop special and I had the seared salmon. Both dishes were superb. We highly recommend this restaurant and we will be back.
Service here is excellent, and the wine machines are a fun way to try different wines. The food, however, was pricey and flavorless. I had the beef short ribs in a bread bowl - It was one large short rib on top of a roll which it dwarfed. Really strange - Why call it a bread bowl?? The short rib was very tender, but devoid of flavor. My husband had lamb which he ordered medium - It was well-done, and also flavorless. He said it was one of the worst lamb dishes he's ever had. It was $36.00. Our dinner companions had the veal special and salmon. The veal was reportedly tough and tasteless. The salmon was cooked medium, as ordered, and reportedly tasted good, so the only meal out of the 4 that was acceptable. The bill was over $200.00 for 4 meals, wine and bruschetta appetizer that was very good. We will not return - There are too many choices in this area to settle for expensive, flavorless cuisine.
Always incredible food, great chef from New Zealand, inventive dishes or choose your own cheeses and meats into a nice platter and just enjoy the wide array of high quality wines. This is a hidden gem with the nicest people, the most attentive service and the opportunity to sample a lot of wines in small amounts while you look for that perfect tasting. The New Zealand rack of lamb is unbelievable but the chef's specials also deliver. The most recent was Maine Lobster in Ravioli. Whoa!
We met some friends visiting Hilton Head at RED for dinner. We had a great time tasting a big variety of wines. Shared the Escargot appetizer and got into a few bottles of an awesome French Minervois red wine blend.
The chef's special Veal Chop entree, the wild-caught Scottish salmon and a couple entree salads followed. All wonderfully presented.
Our server was helpful and bright. A great evening !
We went on spur of the moment. Was able to get a regular table. They also have high tables. I had beef and hubby had salmon. Both excellent. Shared a dessert as the waitress said it would feed two. She was right! Wine menu had great variety. The atmosphere was subdued and conversation at other tables could not be overheard. A wonderful place and would go again.
Had dinner with friends 10/28/17. Live fairly close by, but had not noticed it until seeing the restaurant in the Top Ten Restaurants in the Hilton Head /Bluffton area. We are glad we went. Started off with escargot (a dozen!) washed down with prosecco. Excellent. We than had the "red" Caesar salad (with some cherry tomatoes included). Then had the glazed duck with mashed potatoes & broccoli. Superb. Washed that down with some pinot noir (Simi). Both were very good. The chef (from New Zealand) and his wife (our waitress) came out, and we had an extended discussion. Very nice folks. Many other delectable looking dishes. We shall be back.
Red makes a good impression when you first walk in, a wall of wine, an interesting combination of high top and regular height tables and what looks like a private dining room at one end of property.
The wines by the glass were highlights of the lunch. Both were very drinkable and fairly priced. The soup would likely have been very good if they had backed off on the amount of spicy Italian sausage. It was so hot that I couldn't taste the rest of the ingredients nor my glass of Red without rinsing my mouth with cold water after every spoonful. The sandwich was too thick to use a knife and fork and too overflowing and oily to use your hands happily but it tasted ok.
My wife and I had a truly wonderful meal. We heard the chef is from New Zealand, so we both ordered the rack of lamb. The lamb was outstanding . . . very tender, flavorful and cooked to perfection, as were the accompanying veggies. We also tried the French onion soup at the recommendation of another diner. Also out of this world. An extensive but not daunting wine list. It is easy to try a variety of wines w/out breaking the bank. Service was excellent. Although located in a strip mall, the restaurant itself is a small, very pleasant venue; an appropriate setting for a nice dinner out / special occasions. Very reasonably priced given the food quality. Highly recommended for anyone in and around Hilton Head.
