We never ate there. We got there on time and were told that valet parking was a REQUIREMENT. The parking lot and the restaurant were empty. I was not going to pay for parking and was told to park off property or on the street.
I have been to this restaurant before. The food is ok, but overpriced and overrated. Left and drove less than a mile to the Fish Market where we had a delightful meal.
Don’t waste your time and money here.
Let me start by saying the food was good and up to the usual Red Tracton standards. I had a big problem though with the fact that because the reservation was for an evening after Breeder's Cup races at Del Mar, normal free valet parking became $20 with no advance notice. A separate menu was also printed that increased the price of all entrees by $10. I just don't think that is an ethical business practice, particularly with no advance notice.
We've been customers for 10+ years and this place has never deteriorated or lessened in any way! The food is just plain incredible. If there was any complaint about this place, it was that it serves way too much food! The tast of the food is amazing; the service is impeccable; and the "price is right"! Any person who does not go here is simply cheating oneself out of a true pleasure of life. We are definitely Red's BFFs (Best Fans Forever)!
The food was excellent. The service was excellent. A little disappointed that for a foursome where we celebrating two birthdays, a desert was not comped! Normally too full to eat desert but our guests wanted something. Will of course go back because in the scheme of things, it is a small thing but it would have been huge PR!
Great old style environmnet but still lots of energy that comes from the bar - all wait staff are first class and obviously well experienced professionals - enjoyed great variety the menu offered with more than a few unique items not commonly seen - and this place draws a lot of interesting people to muse and gossip about - entirely positive experience
A must stop on our trips to Del Mar. Old-style atmosphere with fabulous service, delicious food, and huge portions. Best lobster bisque (with sherry), bluecheese wedge, and mouthwatering prime rib. Always a memorable event. Adrian and Heidi are such attentive and nice severs.
Fish was dry but tasted good. Terrible experience due to a very loud, drunk, group sitting in the middle of the restaurant using vulgar language and not one of the staff or the manager asked them to quiet down. This place was recommended by friends for our special occasion but it wasn't very special. I have no desire to return.
My birthday celebration there was a flop because of the very crude, intoxicated, extremely loud and obnoxious--did I say loud (yelling at times) --conversation of the party of six at a table nearby, which went on for nearly an hour and a half while we were there on Saturday night. Otherwise, our food and service were good. It's too bad a few were allowed by the restaurant staff to destroy the dining experience of the rest of us.
Zandra was our server and was superb! Great personality and added to our overall great experience for my step mothers birthday and dad from out of town. We appreciated being sat in the main dining room as requested but our table had a lot of kitchen noise as expected since it was directly adjacent to the kitchen. But overall we are local fans of Tracton's and will keep coming for our favorite dishes!
Very, very tired restaurant. We weren't expecting gourmet food but this menu was straight from the 70s. Fatty cuts of meat, overpriced Jumbo shrimp, over cooked vegetables. Green goddess dressing? I was hosting a large group and servers did get our orders right but it took hours. Probably will only return if I'm looking to karaoke in the party bar. One last important note... the menu on Open Table reflects pricing that is about 25-30% less than what the menu we ordered off. Very sketchy!
We went for the Sunday night fried chicken, and it was terrific. It was 3 couples from Texas, one Dallas, One San Antonio and One El Paso and all were really pleased with the dinner. It was served Family Style, with mashed potatoes, corn bread and gravy. Really a good tasting fun experience.
We have been going to Red Tracton's every year for close to 15 years now. We love the food, the waitresses are always friendly and helpful, it is a fun place to hook up with friends and it is just special to us. We always recommend it to anyone going to Del Mar or the San Diego area.
We very much enjoyed our dinner there and appreciated we were able to be seated ahead of our reservation. After a day in the sun at the races we were so tired it was lovely to be able to get in quickly. All of our meals were superb. The only downside was we were there for a birthday and stated so on the reservation and they didn't acknowledge it. Not a big deal at all though. Everything was fantastic!
We were seated in the bar area and the noise level was out of control. We could not even hear ourselves talk, and people kept bumping into our chairs. We had to send the food back because the steak was raw and the potato had a big black spot in the middle of it and the mushrooms and onions were horrible. Not one manager came over to apologize.
I have been coming to Tracton's for many years. The dining experience has always been fun and lively and the food is always exceptional. Bobby Cruz is the best entertainment anyone could find. His music is always terrific and he sure seems to "pack the crowds in"!
Food and service very good. The prices are indicative of the location and not anything else. $15 alcoholic drinks, ouch. If they were designer drinks, no big deal but a regular bourbon straight up? Baileys and coffee? Yikes. One thing on the food. The bacon bits on the NY Aupoivre were kind of vinegary. Interesting and not really welcome at $50.
