Get the lobster bisque, its amazing
Food is great. I love the Lobster Bisque most of all. Prime Rib was cooked perfectly. Server was great.
Poor attention from wait person. Slow getting drinks and the food was very disappointing. The prime rib was over cooked and too lean...the crust and fat were removed...lacked flavor!
Great service, the food was cold ..had items had to be return multiple items.. and we never do that. A $400 dinner should be great. This was not. Will return again at some point to retry.
We love Red Tracton's. It's a little on the expensive side but well worth it. The crab legs are the best!!
Prime Rib was tender but lacked the nice crusty seasoned outside of really good prime rib. Stuffed baked potato was large and excellent. It took a while after we were seated for the server to appear, but once she did she was efficient and courteous.
Never disappointed eating at Red's. Been a regular for over 25 years
This is not an inexpensive restaurant by any standard, and it is worth every penny. From the exceedingly polite parking valet to the gracious doorman to the superb wait staff, everyone was cheerful and obviously concerned to ensure we had a great experience. The food was beyond amazing - the best we've ever had at a restaurant bar none. For special occasions, this is the place to go. The bar area was extremely loud, but the dining area much less so. The live music was also reasonably good, though a little harder to hear from our table. Overall a thoroughly wonderful evening.
Fabulous as always. Prime rib is the best in town. Salad "excepionale" was great.
The bar scene there is VERY ACTIVE (keep in mind, DMTC is closed) and the bathrooms (both genders) were disgusting.
The service staff were all very nice, but we were often interrupted by service staff that were "just checking", which was because they don't seem to really know who has what table.
Filet mignon was good. 2X baked potatoes was very dry. They were out of asparagus.
1st time. May tryb again, to see if things are a little better since their aged beef inventory seemed legit.
Wait was a little long considering I had a reservation, but the staff was more than accommodating
Alway's a great place to eat and enjoy the entertainment!
Restaurant has serving for multi generations and has a loyal following. We have eaten here twice with a few years separating each visit. On both occasions we have found the restaurant lacking. The steak and other very expensive entrees are not tender and juicy as you would expect. Potatoes were served lukewarm and vegetables were a la carte and uninteresting. Surprisingly wine by the glass was reasonably priced and the selection contained all the better standbys.
We had sea bass with veggies. It was a nice big piece of fish(sautéed) but undercooked to my my taste. Vegetables so-so.
Big problem was price-for what you get. $170 something, we had house wine by the glass, nothing fancy.
Great "old money" environment, fantastic food with enough for three-leftover meals, Erica our waiter was superb. Wine list was broad and eclectic. We are lucky to have this restaurant in our backyard.
Food is decent but the same ol, same ol. Just prices going up
Very unimpressed. Overly priced, needs a renovation and food was just average.
This restaurant never disappoints. Great food, great service, they bring the bread out immediately, and great ambience. My only complaint this time was that they had raise their prices on the steaks and it seemed like the quality of the steak was it reflected in the price.
Solid meal with solid steak house ambiance. Fun night
Never disappoints. Great food, service and atmosphere. One of our favorites!!
The portions of the meal was very generous, the quality of food that was ordered was amazing.
The best prime rib I’ve ever had in a restaurant.
I would definitely come back for another meal again.
As usual the food and the service were outstanding. The quality of the food and the preparation are the best in San Diego. That said, they really need some refurbishment. The booths are very, very old and offer no support for those of us who are a bit older and have backs that ache. The restroom and its associated hall have a smell of mildew and have not been refurbished in many years. The first time I went to red Tractons was at the original location on rodeo in Baldwin Hills my parents brought me there for a special celebration. As an adult and living in San Diego it is one of my favorite places. Please Red Tracton’s invest a little money in the facility, I’m sure it will prove to be a good ROI.
This was the second time we ate here and the service was fair at best. It was busy, but there were plenty of staff. The famous lobster bisque was cold, the champagne was warm, spinach salad was swimming in dressing and my ribeye was not only mostly fat, but had a vein running through it that should have been removed. The baked potato was very good, the potatoes au gratin were very good and the cheesecake and coffee were good. However, for $250 and two people, I will steer clear of this restaurant for a long time before returning.
Great food, large portions, not cheap, a bit loud, overall very satisfied.
We've been coming to Tracton's for years. Their salad exceptional was way overdressed and my halibut was overcooked. At $57, one would think the chef would know how to cook any kind of fish. On the other hand, the salmon was cooked just right and was delicious. Didn't have dessert this time, but they are usually great. So that's why my mixed stars.
Red Tracton's is by far one of my favorite restaurants!
Excellent as always!
Great as always--this place is never disappointing
Nice atmosphere. Food was expensive but good.
We like Red Tracton’s and normally have very good experiences there. We decided to have dinner there this evening which was New Year’s Eve and also happens to be my birthday. I made the reservations about a week before and specifically mentioned that it was a birthday when I made the reservation. Sadly, Red Tracton’s suffers from holiday dinner big-itis. We were not seated in the regular restaurant but in sort of a screened-in porch which is an area near the front which usually contains special parties and happy hour, in which they had set up tables for overflow dining ... it was pretty chilly in there. In addition to our entrees we ordered their special salad which is tossed table side. The salad was limp and tasteless. The service was ok, but the entire experience was not the warm, comfortable ambience, service and food we expect from Red Tracton’s. Not once was the birthday ever mentioned and it was specifically noted in the reservation. We were not even asked if we wanted any dessert. An expensive evening for a special night which turned out to be not so special. We knew it was a holiday and going to be crowded, but it wasn’t a great experience for the money, tonight. Oh well.
This place is always OUTSTANDING!!!! Just go!!!!!
Excellent service & food!!!
My first visit to Red Tracton's was on Christmas Eve so it may not be a fair time to evaluate. It started off strong-- warm bread and good salad but when the main courses arrived, things soured a bit. We all ordered prime rib since the restaurant built its reputation on it and we were sadly disappointed. Didn't compare with other prime rib chains like Lawry's. The mashed potatoes were rather bland. The final blow was the chocolate lava cake-- it was like eating a dry sponge without the lava. To her credit, our server took it off the bill when we complained. The server was very friendly and upbeat but not the most attentive. All in all I would say the experience was just ok.
Approx 1lb lobster tail $125 & overcooked! Scallops served lukewarm almost cold...not very edible. Overall not a good experience.
I love the old school style of this place. Nothing inventive, just classics but with a piano bar.
We had reservations for 2 at 7:45 to sit by the music and didn’t get seated until 9:45. The bar gave us a drink to make up for
Always enjoyable dining! Good food!
I booked us on Open Table. I included a note that it was my wife’s birthday.
We arrived, the host asks if we have a reservations, I said yes, under name Ben. The host goes “yes, Ben, it’s Katherine’s birthday”, we replied yes. The host did not say happy birthday to my wife and told us to follow him to our table.
We ordered Sprite, they brought soda water with lemon. We asked them to take it back and get us Sprite, it came back exactly the same, we gave up.
My 11-year-old food was ribs, she told us that her ribs are dry, I tried it off her plate, sure enough, super dry, even the child could tell.
My wife’s steak was not good either.
For dessert, we ordered chocolate lava cake and mango sorbet. Mango sorbet never came, we didn’t bother saying anything.
Our servant comes after we were done with the lava cake, and asked if we wanted any coffee, my wife asked for a decaf and I asked for a regular coffee. Some minutes later our servant showed up with the bill, our coffees never came!!!
At no point they ever said happy birthday to my wife and didn’t bother to bring her one candle. I have dined at expensive places before, they all bring you a small piece of cake with a candle on it and wish you happy birthday.
Looked at the bill, there was a charge for Sprite; at least there was no mango sorbet or coffee on it.
I will never go back to this place. That was our first and last time!
Good food. Compared to other restaurants we visit, I felt Red Traction’s was a little overpriced.
